The Holy People will ask you what you did with your hands. Where you put them, who you helped… who you hurt.
This traditional teaching is being lost as many of our Navajo experience abuse at the hands of other Diné.
In the traditional way a Navajo promises to never harm other Diné with hands that should be sacred.

Your ability to speak is also sacred. Verbal abuse is what occurs before any physical occurs. Talk lovingly to your spouse and children. They are holy too.

True, words have power beyond just the literal meaning. All ancient cultures use words to create magic (even Christians do with their prayers). The positive or negative things we say hold more power than their face value. Sticks and stones can break your bones but words can wound or heal your soul.

Spirituality is evolutionary, it is not stagnant or fixed. Holding "tradition" over the younger generation's head is like a sort of cruel slavery. The ways of the elders held sacred wisdom, but the vessel must change and adapt with changing times and awakening of spiritual awareness. Buds blossoming on the tree cannot be constantly monitored or they will wither and die from the constant manipulation and interference. This is not to denigrate or lessen the value of the ancient teachings, but to say that one must allow for their reinterpretation. This is the right and the inheritance of the young. You have no right to interfere with their evolution by cosmic law.
The dances, ceremonies, and initiations of the various peoples were expressions of the awakening along the path of life and being grateful and accepting of the energies of the universe. When they become rote movements and prescribed behaviors, they limit the broadening of perspective which the soul group is seeking to emphasize and expand. Ask yourself why it's necessary to keep the familiar and customary ways rather than allowing for readaptation and reinterpretation. Why not expand out like the Great Spirit himself?

I was raised with extreme physical abuse. When I became a man and had children I broke the cycle of abuse and never laid my hands on my children or their mother. While I served my time in the Marine Corps as an MP, we would get calls for domestic violence and I would always want to talk to the man. I would ask him why he would do such a thing and their reply was always, that's how I was raised. The look in their eyes when I would say, so was I and I knew how it felt, so why would you do this after knowing. They could never look me in my eyes after I would say this. Semper Fi my brother.

It's about sharing the wisdom gained by responsible elders, about how all 5-fingered beings should behave, and the karma that you will entail by not heeding this universal wisdom.
"We humans are wired for empathy by evolution, but when children grow up in dominator families they internalize this male over female template for relations early on. They then automatically apply it to other differences, whether based on race, religion, sexual orientation, and so forth.
People from authoritarian, male-dominated, punitive families tend to vote for "strongman" leaders and for "hard" punitive policies (prisons, wars) rather than "soft" caring policies (healthcare, childcare). Not everyone from this background does. But many people do. And this conditioning can be exploited, as Trump's campaign did, especially in times like ours of economic, social, and technological upheaval.
While there were many factors in the 2016 election, from false news to voter suppression and Russian hacking, the question is why so many people responded to Donald Trump's demagoguery.
What happened in the US is a regression to the domination side of the social scale. Trump claimed that he, as a "strongman," would solve all our problems, and was elected by fanning fear, hate, scapegoating, the debasement of women.
The link between intimate violence in the home and the international violence of terrorism and war is as tightly bound together as the fingers of a clenched fist.
When the status and power of women is greater so also is the nation’s general quality of life; when they are lower, so is the quality of life for all.
In sum, the struggle for our future is . . . the struggle between those who cling to patterns of domination and those working for a more equitable partnership world."
      Riane Eisler

@@chuckheppner4384Women are more wrathful than men. The reason why men are as you say domineering is literally because the female brain is designed to utilize emotion and intuition over latter logic and deduction as a default method of problem solving. Saying or thinking that is a bad thing is shitting on women imo.
If you don't believe me there are plenty of studies and conclusions that make it pretty obvious that men's and women's brains operate on different prerogatives, being objective based reasoning for men and subjective based reasoning for women. Our neurological anatomy is literally different different depending on sex.
Now I do think that turning that dynamic into comparative juxtaposition is absolutely worthless. Men are men and women are women, trying to blame an entire sex dynamic for the woes of the world is about as cheap of a cop out and blame shift you can do from talking about Navaho teachings to blasting TRUMP BAD in your second paragraph.
What I think you were trying to get at is that men and women alike become wiser individuals by learning to understand and utilize the processes of the other sex. Women who incorporate ladder logic and objective reasoning into their intuitive and emotional reasoning are fiercely intelligent and powerful women when it comes to their self regulation and abilities. The same goes for men who learn to incorporate intuition and emotional evaluation into their logical objective reasonings. Men and women through their fine differences and dynamics better eachother because they are different.
Not men doing what men do ruin the world by being men. That's just the word slow in Italian.

@@chuckheppner4384 Neither Hillary nor Biden are better options. Trump's words caught on because the people are tired of the lies and corruptions of our leaders; tired of drugs, crime and homelessness being rampant in our cities; tired of our country being weakened from within by those who don't have our interests at heart, who want to twist and destroy our youth, their innocence and their minds; and tired of being called names for thinking and believing things on our own different to what those in power tell us to. Trump wanted to defend America's interests both at home and abroad. For once in my life there were no new wars during the four years he was in office and he even made some ground towards peace in the Middle East. We all know what our news media says of these things and that man, but it has been proven again and again to us that our news media does not tell us the truth. The evil one as this wise man calls it has a strong hold in the places of power in this world and those who can see know this.

When I listen to these words I am forced to weigh my actions as a man, a husband, and father. What I hear says one must have balance in all things...... emotional wisdom in, even, child discipline. I experienced off balance discipline and did(with my wife's loving help) my best to correct my approach to discipline. This journey we are on is just that.....a trip not a destination.....wisdom is the only thing we can truly pass on to those we love. When I hear these words I feel encouraged to evauate my actions butnot to second guess in the moment. If we are close with the Holy people they are close to us sowe do not need to worry about it......have the faith, trust, confidence that in your time of need you will be helped.
Thank you for these words. It is an honor to hear an elder speak and teach.

The united states military is using technology and manpower to protect deviant sadistic Child SAers that are misusing their access to advanced tools to spy on, harass, molest, and forcibly SA children. This sometimes follows them into adulthood. Children that are still too young to know that what they are seeing is not normal are being exposed to disgusting deviant content that is forcibly shown to them by hacking their devices. Many victims may not even know they have been targeted by this, because the majority of the actual sexual abuse happens when they are drugged or asleep, the only reason they might know is because the perpetrator may leave behind physical evidence, like bruises, scratches, or bodily fluids. If a victim discovers what has happened to them these worms will misuse equipment and manpower to stalk, shame, mock, and generally try to make the lives of the people affected by this as hellish as possible both offline and online. They follow victims in person and try to intimidate or harass them. They generally use different people who act as though they aren't affiliated with each other and don't do anything they can be arrested for at the time of the harassment. They think they can shame and mock their victims into silence because some of what happens is coerced. These are depraved cowards that gather in groups to harass solitary women and children just to protect deviant SAers

In Navajo tradition it is normal that an individual would participate in a sweat lodge. This act would be included with songs and prayers, so that the warriors hands and his spirit would be partially cleansed. Partial being the word because in some sense, forgiveness by the creator but importantly in the understanding of forgiveness/acceptance for yourself.

This is a great message and so perfectly condensed in the title's question, one that we really should keep asking ourselves throughout life.
People must hear things like this growing up. Many will still act against it and lie, but at least the seed of a better world is planted somewhere.
I come from possibly one of the most non-spiritual places of the earth. Thoughts like this are kept private, or used for show. That people like me still find their way here and easily resonate with the message, I think, also speaks for some universal sense of truth and goodness.

A people who feels defeated & worthless yet are not. This is what causes All of the things spoken of here. I myself was a mass of Rage & Pain caring not for a world who cares not for me. Until the Great Spirit woke me up & taught me, all that i had not known, n then it vanished. Were exemptions for self-defense understood or otherwise forgiven by the Holy People? If one is never the aggressor, but defends oneself when attacked, is that permitted by the Holy People?

The best way of teaching children is to motivate them for curiosity and self learning.
Violence is the transfer of negative thoughts and feelings. So getting into the inner balance and a relaxed mood is the best way of preventing violence.

Was raised to NEVER raise your hand against a Women. Never have...Never will. I spanked both my boys once each on bare bottom for being mouthy and disrespectful to there Mother. I cried more then they did and afterwards both apologized and they NEVER did it again. As a young man (13) I was very mouthy with my Mother(at that age) and my sister smacked me so hard across the mouth I scene stars. I deserved it, I needed it. I learned my lesson and NEVER did it again. I recall getting the belt once from my Father, again I needed it, I had it coming and glad he Loved me enough to set me straight. Quote:

Eye contact. My son is forced to repeat his lessons learned while making eye contact with myself or his mother. SHIFTY EYES are no good, this allows people to lie through their teeth. Apologizing to your parent and then also to the family member/friend you have wronged while making eye contact brings heavy emotional learning into play. This is how my children will learn from their mistakes. It makes everyone uncomfortable around us while my son has to apologize sometimes 10 times in a row until he gets it right. When the eye contact is locked in with the proper apology you will never be prouder as a parent…

I understand what you’re trying to achieve. But as a parent of children who are now 39 & 43 I also know that forcing anyone to say they are sorry or “their lessons” is impossible and often leads to them learning to actually lie to your face with ease! But never hitting anyone is the the greatest gift we can learn. It’s exceptionally hard to teach a child sometimes without resorting to violence and although I always vowed never to smack a child, I know I failed on a few occasions when pushed to my limits. It’s my biggest regret as I’m actually a very calm person normally! But I managed to break the cycle and my children are fantastic calm parents who never hit their children. Grandfather Wally is so helpful and correct to remind us all to be gentle with our hands, and I’d like to add as a grandmother….with our voices too! ❤

Be gentle in all things.. not just with your hands.
Force creates resistance. Punishment creates rebellion.
Give reasonable consequences but do not humiliate the child.
Reward the desirable behaviour. Be proud of their efforts, their growth. Support them when they are hating themselves and feeling like they have failed.
In my experience of years teaching, most kids only want one thing.. to be approved of and to please their parents..

    • @patduffyforever
      @patduffyforever ปีที่แล้ว +4

Sounds extremely abusive. Humiliating publicly and forced repetition may to you seem like respect but when he s an adult he will hate you. What yre doing is despicable narcissistic. You want to be seen to be a good parent and are dumping shame on yr child rather than teaching him the correct way. 😢

Oh my goodness you are so right here. I remember appoligizing in tears for punching my daughter and breaking her skin. It was a horrible nightmare dealing with drugs by design. A total cluster fuk of events. Im a gardener never to hurt only to love with these hands, as I was the one that welcomed all into my home. That day haunted me until recently when I did ceromony. It is an unfortunate situation cuz that one moment has caused a continually distancing between us. The closeness was broken.... thats a hell to carry about that is a lifetime of healing. How sad and distubing. I only wish i had a family that cared and knew how to support an addictive human dynamic. We can only meet people where we are at. I don't carry the guilt only the loss of a daughter not available to meet me whete i am at. Welcome children to the life of shit parenting handed down from one generation to the next.
    Learn from this ❤❤❤❤❤
Do no harm with your hands. Sew, create art, bead, cook, dance, draw.
