As someone who isnt a massive drone enthusiast I have to say this really explained a lot not just about the DJI but also FPV and drone mechanics in general. Well Done!!! SUBSCRIBED!!!
I’m glad! Because I went through several explanations trying to figure out how to concisely explain the difference until I landed on this one (and still wasn’t sure if I’d lose people).
Great review! I hate to say it but some of your peers seem to forget that a few 'Top-tier' pilots don't drive the industry with their self-built FPV drones. As we saw just a year or so ago we got the same negative reviews about the DJI Goggles, yet now several of your peers have transitioned over to using them in their daily setups. Now it doesn't mean that DJI is always deserving of rainbows and butterflies. You did a great job of reviewing this from the framework of someone that hasn't spent much time to the 'experts'. As well as addressing that this could be a great option for someone interested in more dynamic cinematography. So thank you for keeping this in mind and in balance.
You get it! I think it’s a highly misunderstood product, that absolutely has a place in the industry. Thank you for your comment. The negative ones are definitely strong on this one lol

So many reviewer's have dropped a edit for this new drone but this one totally stands out as the best I have seen. Awesome work Tommy, really enjoyed this.
Once again Tommy, you did a superb job. It is both informative and entertaining. You make me laugh and you always present things in a way that keeps me watching. I got irritated when the commercials just popped in at an important point, but they are short unless you want to keep watching them, so they are tolerable. You did a truly great job here and I learned a lot. Thank you.
Yes. Would like to see you do some more expert flying with it. Especially as a chase drone / camera tracking. Thanks for taking the time to learn the drone before just putting a video together.
+1 on the chase drone capabilities video idea. Thanks for making a straight up informative video. I was a bit of a hater because of the plastic case and would like to hear your take on that, but after watching this video I feel like this is the next step toward the future. Nice job!
I def don’t think this is made to crash and it seems like a lot of the fpv community is mistaking this to be like one of our DIY freestyle builds. It’s not, it’s very much still a film/camera drone. Think of it as a mavic with rate mode.
I would like to use this with a vista and my long range FPV quad. Is it possible, or it's usable only with this hybrid? (The size is ideal for a travel setup.)
The former is definitely doable in Betaflight if you run a GPS. Maybe not as aggressive of a stop but it can do it, and you could probably make it stop more aggressively with tuning. I've definitely seen a floating home point target before, might have been on a PX4 branch but I bet it could be added to the clean/betaflight stack with a bit of work by someone smarter than me.
To be honest, if I was starting out right now I would seriously consider getting this. When I first started to learn about FPV, I was sometimes wishing there already was a ready-to-fly drone by DJI because it was kinda overwhelming to learn about all this stuff. It took me like half a year to learn about all the components, learn flying in a simulator, to finally receive all the parts (took months), and then finally to learn how to solder and to put it together. It's a huge barrier to entry. In the end, I'm glad I did it, building quads is pretty satisfying by itself, even though it's a lot of work. The freedom to put together any drone you want to to fly it wherever you want and how high you want is really great (apparently, this one is supposed to have the same 500m altitude limit from takeoff that all other DJI drones have, so scaling mountains should be impossible). Good review!
thanks! Yea... I think if you're end-state goal is to be deep into the FPV hobby (building your own, repairing yourself, tuning, etc...) then this is not the way to go.
Really enjoyed watching your video and especially the motion controller. I have zero experience in FPV but watching the guy fly it for the first time was something else. Very very cool!
It's super simple. Pop the back rubber cover off with your finger nail (or a plastic flat tool). Use an M1.5 hex driver to loosen the tension until there is none. There are only 2 marked holes (one of them loosens then tension... I just can't remember which one). You can't mess it up if you accidentally loosen the other one (it just makes it tighter)
ADD TO CART!!! Your review sold it for me! Excellent and very informative! (I also have that same Dj Lee T shirt, so that was the other selling point lol!) I saw the ad for this drone and really loved it, but you know how sometimes ads add hype, and the product aint all that great, you convinced me that it's actually a great product. I'm not a seasoned drone pilot but I've flown some, definitely nowhere near as good as this one, just very basic drones with no cameras or birds-eye view options, I like the fact that you showed how comfortable a beginner would feel flying this drone, I definitely didn't feel overwhelmed. Thanks for such an all around great review!
@@ummagawdFPV lol, I was curious does this have that follow me option? I saw a drone a few years ago that had a device you can wear that allowed the drone to track you, basically follow you, the ad showed a guy on his mountain bike wearing the device on his wrist I believe and the drone was following him.
Excellent video! I ordered one of these today so I'm pretty pumped! We have a lot of wooded land in the Adirondacks and I want to get a bird's eye view of it all, but I ALSO want to have a little fun 😀
I have never seen your videos before and I have waiting to hear about this drone from an experienced fpv pilot. Very informative video. You have got an new subscriber.
Like many others I really appreciate your skills at presenting information in a very polished and clear manner. Other reviews had me writing this drone set up off, but you showed me features (like the pause button) that made me reconsider my opinion. Plus your flight footage was amazing! Thanks for putting the time into making this video. For upcoming videos I want to see how you (a skilled and experienced pilot) would use it
Great review! Extremely helpful. You have a great on screen presence, well narrated, and well produced content. I like your workshop dungeon, the shop that you did this review from. The wall of drones is crazy - how many do you have there! I really like your durability videos - awesome again. And another unrelated comment to this video I saw your message on Patreon, very sorry to hear about the sh!t you are going through, i went thru some really nasty times about a decade ago, I think eventually we all do. I can tell you that the saying time heals all wounds is mostly true and having a passion like what it appears you have for drones can be one of the greatest things you can do with your time. @@ummagawdFPV Thanks man. I have been in RC for 40 years! (Yikes) I went through some serious loss and for a while didn't do anything, lost all drive. What setup do you recommend to someone who has general RC skills and a bunch of LOS quad flights under his belt? Great video. Was on the fence, but this video convinced me to go for it. Built my own FPV a few years ago, but I have so much other things going on, that the time investment in adjusting, fixing, learning, etc, was just to much for me. If this was out 4 years ago I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat. I’m glad I learned the things I did by building my own, but this is pretty sweet.
Best review so far! You've explained everything properly. Not a drone for me as I've been flying FPV for a while, but I will share this with my (DJI) friends. Some interesting new features though. Thanks Tommy.
Glad it was helpful! Definitely NOT for everybody. I think alot of people in the FPV community is really misunderstanding what this product is and who it's for.
It was internally called Flash... and I think I was the last one to figure out they weren’t publically calling it that lol. I had to go back and edit me calling it the flash
@@ummagawdFPV Thanks for the inside scoop, Tommy! Flash or any other real name (maybe except Trashcan) would have been better. It's not like DJI calls all their other drones DJI Camera Drone.
@@ummagawdFPV damn it.... Great to know. Thanks, been waiting for someone to answer this question for weeks now🤣🤣🤣saved me possible money and heartache 👍🏿👍🏿
So.. if you need to make a phisical change in controler to go to Manual mode [full manual or just manualish?] if you want to return home in normal mode you need to make that change in controler back so the stick will come back to neutral position, right?
I have watched a TON of these reveals. Yours is by far the best of all of them. Some of the the newbie videos are also entertaining. I did end up buying the whole thing w/fly more combo. I own a Mavic 2 Pro(which I never fly) and at least 25 FPV quads which is my passion. I just had to try this, as I know the DJI build quality, and the fusion of an FPV quad, and a DJI drone sounds awesome. Great review man. Good thing I got care refresh 😂
@@ummagawdFPV Yeah, I had already spent $1,800 unexpectedly, so I didn’t at the time. If it really is that cool, I probably will then. What’s $200 more...(possibly some new Ummagawd merch🤔) So it’s really that good in your opinion? Worth the extra money?
Great review Tommy. The best one I've seen on this to date. I've been traditional FPV for the last year or so and love that aspect. But I came from a more videography background so while this won't replace my freestyle quads I can already see applications for video blogging. Also, I have some older friends who worry about doing fpv and stay with their camera drones. You've shown me that they can have the security of camera drones but branch out to the other flight modes as they get comfortable. Some are ex pilots so the motion controller will blow their minds. I'll be sending them to this video!
I haven't had a chance to fly it lately as I"ve been traveling for jobs... but I'm looking forward to making a new video with it using the motion controller when I get home.
hey.. I have a questin for you. Since you have done so much time with the thing .Can you fly the drone with a motion controller in full manual setting.
Just got my 107 drone pilot license. Would u say with all of the capabilities this would be a good drone to build up extra skills for work? Since it can go from a standard type of drone flight to getting bearings with fpv flight characteristics I think it would help me become more well rounded and accurate with drone flight. What’s your opinion?
I think you’re spot on. You can’t do the built-in “auto” modes (ie - dronie, orbits) that mavic a can, which forces you to learn how to do your own camera movements.... and IMO that makes you a better drone operator. And then as you work up your skills to full manual... you can get that type of footage all on the same drone. Just know that this doesn’t fly as “locked” in as the DIY FPV drones, so always give yourself more margin for error.
@@ummagawdFPV I previously had a phantom 3 and got rid of it because it was way too large. If I get the fpv a full axis gimbal would be missed slightly but it’s not even a big deal. I want to gain some more skills to feel more comfortable flying in tighter spaces which I think this will help with if I just use the N mode. S mode and M mode would be super fun to just feel like I’m flying and get some cool shots on vacation. I really think the motion controller can make this the most fun experience I’ve ever had with a drone. Finally did have u experimented with how many batteries you would need to do nonstop flight to keep swapping.
What about horizon mode. The mode that’s between angle mode and rate mode. It’ll let you do flips but it will still stabilize if you let go of the sticks. Does the DJI FPV have that mode?
i honestly thought it was gonna be more expensive than it is, i guess i'm used to the marked up price of everything on the market. For what it's worth tho, this is exactly what i've been waiting for. I will order it for sure.
I thought that too, but you can hear the prop wash oscillations. I think that the motor and props that are on here have enough power to have minimal prop wash (so I don't think it's a physical/hardware problem). I just think that DJI's flight control firmware isn't optimized for manual flight.
@@ummagawdFPV ahhh yeah I'm sure that the firmware needs improvements..I figure they'll get it better.. They have a fixed target so it should be easier to get it dialed in

Mate, absolutely awesome video! Love the way you explain things. 100% subscribed!!!
thanks and thanks for the sub!
From all the vids I've seen about this dji drone I liked this the most I like your style of video very much - thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
When you've turned that thing on, the sound emitted kinda related to The rising of the machines! Badass drone!
It's a cinematic, no it's FPV, it's... someone should really give it a name other than just DJI FPV.
CPV - cine-pv????
Best review so far! Great job
Glad you liked it!
Obstacle penetration test with the 2.4ghz digital video please! Nice review Tommy
Will you recommend me this fpv over my mavic pro??
Some quality work right here, keep it up
Thank you
How does return to homework on drones with sensors work, like if it's under something (a bridge) how does it remover getting home
There’s no top facing sensors, so if you have it configured to climb as part of the RTH procedure, it’ll hit anything above it
@@ummagawdFPV damn it....
The best video review of it yet.
thanks
Nice video Tommy. Starts from the basics
Awesome review man. Respect.
Is the flight intro DJI FPV? 0:15 - shadow doesn't look like it though
all of the footage except for when I'm talking about FPV drones is all DJI FPV
Great video. Learned everything I needed. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Dope! Might as well get the motion controller too then!
@@ummagawdFPV Yeah, I had already spent $1,800 unexpectedly, so I didn’t at the time. If it really is that cool, I probably will then. What’s $200 more...(possibly some new Ummagawd merch🤔)
So it’s really that good in your opinion? Worth the extra money?
Is the obstacle avoidance still available when you use the motion controller?
I want to know about the distance, the strength of the signal and ask that stuff
So it's rated for 10km distance, but I've yet to do any real testing on that. I'll likely make a video on that though.
I'll be sending them to this video!
mos def! thank you for sharing
Outstanding review! I want one of these bad boys! 👍
Great review!!! I just got mine today:) Thank you
If you lose signal while an fpv mode do it go into return to home?
it depends on how you configure it, but yes.... RTH or stop and land
Tommy the Grandfather of FPV. THANKS for awesome reveiw.
Tommy, what's the advantage of the dihedral/canted motors?
Best review of the DJI FPV Drone I've seen so far 😁 Congratulations!
Thanks Julian
Great video! Thanks! So do you personally ever use the motion controller?
Very Great video Tommy. Hope you will release the range test video later.
That's the plan!
Always love your cinematic presentations.
Did I see the Santiago Canyon area in there?
TBH... I have no idea what canyon that was lol
OUTSTANDING REVIEW well done
Thanks Bo
Can you use the goggles and controller from the DJI FPV drone with the Air Unit?
The goggles already work with the current air units, but the controller will need a firmware update (that's not released yet).
Yo Tommy, what's the best SD card for this thing, mine is saying SD card it slow
What about horizon mode. The mode that’s between angle mode and rate mode. It’ll let you do flips but it will still stabilize if you let go of the sticks. Does the DJI FPV have that mode?
it does not
Where is that? 3:30
Great review men, new subscriber, PS we use the same intro song hahaha
LOL nice. Thanks for the sub
Since we now have v2 goggles and Radio, any speculation on the v2 occusync 3.0 air unit release ???
i honestly thought it was gonna be more expensive than it is, i guess i'm used to the marked up price of everything on the market. For what it's worth tho, this is exactly what i've been waiting for. I will order it for sure.
Could those shakes be the result of the gimbal soft mount, since you are getting the raw feed in the goggles?
I thought that too, but you can hear the prop wash oscillations. I think that the motor and props that are on here have enough power to have minimal prop wash (so I don't think it's a physical/hardware problem). I just think that DJI's flight control firmware isn't optimized for manual flight.
@@ummagawdFPV ahhh yeah I'm sure that the firmware needs improvements..I figure they'll get it better.. They have a fixed target so it should be easier to get it dialed in
Your flying skills are out of this world 👍🏼
thanks Frank
What a great review Tommy!
Just got mine. I thought the camera would lock and tilt downward when you punch forward.
Best video about the DJI FPV drone. Thanks !
Thanks Raymond
love how that motion controller works like a jetstick!! really a logical next step in fpv cinewhoops
it's pretty damn fun for sure
do the goggles work with the mav pro 2?
