Who would have thought that a TH-cam channel dedicated to Yu-Gi-Oh would see such a dramatic increase in views after a video on Ultrakill. I discovered this channel thanks to Ultrakill, in fact. To be honest, your style of video lends itself very well to essays and playthrough analysis, just like this one. Nice comedic tone, perfect pacing and overall a really nice and entertaining analysis. Kudos to you!
From the man that caused the "Morbin' time" meme and got a hilarious second release of a movie nobody cared about: A game review in entertaining fashion about an ultraviolent retro shooter.
On a scale of shitpost/joke/meme to informative/analysis, this is closer to the serious side, but it's honestly close to my ideal goldilocks zone. Maxor's is so far into the shitpost side it loops back around twice.
After Civvie shit on BoA Devs, nope. No more TH-cam shoutous... There is many more cult things you can reference, not some random tuber that will fall into obscurity at some point.
i feel like this is one of the only ultrakill review videos that actually does the game justice in terms of showcasing the more in depth ways to play this game, i.e. slam storage, i-frames for overcharge, and shotgun swapping. phenomenal video. p.s. its nice to see another person that likes lain, touhou and yume nikki
I thought the cancer rat was a hilarious thing before I knew it was a reference, and after I still do. The game basically pulls a triple plot twist. “Oooo a secret area, I hope I get an orb. Ahhhh, Scary rat!!! Oh lol it’s just a rat with cancer, I can kill it easily. Aaahhh, giant scary rat!!!”
Okay, first of all: You absolutely sold me on this game, it looks fucking amazing. Second, how the fuck is this review so good? I swear, you're made for content like that. Your humor and narration just are so well suited for reviews, and I really, really, REALLY hope there will be more in the future

Right? This was the first video I've seen from the man and he has gotten me hooked from start to finish! Granted, I already love the game, but to make the video as entertaining as it is despite me already knowing much of the lore speaks as to how amazing he is at making videos.
Oh definitely. Same publisher, and David duskdev definitely has been around to give just a sprinkle of guidance, probably more-so pre-early-access and when the publisher had just picked him up. Hakita really likes to put secrets in the game about people who have inspired or helped him. That's why there's just a tiny secret for DUSK, a recognizable mention to Civvie, and a straight up name-drop of mandalore (with coffins in the same room of early streamers/yters who covered it). To find out why mandalores secret is so blatant, you can find the Twitter thread by searching "now that the greed spoiler embargo is lifted" and getting to the ultrakill twitter :)
Rewatching this video is always good fun, good background noise and just overall entertaining. I hope you'll continue this 'series' with the other acts that have come out!
“Or you can [use the coin to] just bribe your enemies to leave you alone! I made that last one up.” What’s funny is that this is actually a thing, if memory serves. You can toss a coin to the ferryman to skip his boss fight.
Rata's editing and pacing remind me of Mandalore or Shammy, very entertaining stuff, not skipping a beat on describing the game, jokes landing left and right, I want a whole lot more of this And yes, comparing Rata to those 2 is very high praise
How long until the Civvie11 mention goes full circle and someone is like "Hey, Civvie! You got a shoutout from the "It's morbin' time!" guy!" In all seriousness. this was great. If you're planning on doing more of these I'm all for you branching your channel out beyond YuGiOh stuff.
Ultrakill was literally the first game I ever played on PC and it was an experience. I played it on regular difficulty and I've gone through the entire first and second act and killed Minos Prime after about 2 hours. Picked this game up a few days back due to the summer steam sale, and it has very quickly become one of my all-time favorites. What you mentioned about having a smaller pool of options, but making those options interact with one another in unique and interesting ways is one of the things I love most about this game. I'm also just an absolute sucker for anything with Parry mechanics, and this one goes so far that you're able to parry your own goddamn shotgun pellet and that just entirely replaces sex in my book. Also, I'm not sure if you know about this given that I didn't hear any mention of it in the video, but the alt fire of the nail gun actually does have an interaction with other weapons. If you stick the alt fire into the ground or a wall and shoot a bunch of nails to it, you can then swap to a hitscan weapon and shoot the embedded magnet, causing the nails to fly outward into enemies. Granted, my experiences with the tactic are that it's rather ineffective and unnecessarily setup based when you could probably achieve similar or better results with single weapons, but it is an option that exists as synergy between the nailgun and hitscan weapons
While your yugioh content will likely always be what I know you for, I genuinely loved this video. The passion in your voice and consistently funny/informative writing made it addicting to watch.
The DMC comparisons get funnier when you realize that dmc is also based off the divine comedy, with dante being a stand in for the author, and vergil being a stand in for dante's guide in the book and dante's (the author) inspiration virgilio. The first book, dante's inferno is dante and virgilio going through the layers of hell.
I've probably left 4 youtube comments in my life before this, but I really wanted to voice my support for you doing other kinds of content. This video was absolutely perfect, your enthusiasm for the game really shines and the editing is just spectacular. Really funny but informative at the same time. Amazing job with this one, eagerly looking forward to the next.
the thing about Minos prime that makes him unique is that he refers to you as "creature of steel", he sees you as a sentient object capable of responsibility for your own actions, whereas Gabriel refers to you as an "object", and tells you to turn back instead of killing you straight up.

I went on steam after learning that it was one of the highest rated games percentage-wise, I was only able to find two legit negative reviews after hours of searching, one was about a technical issue, the other was about difficulty (all the other negative reviews were troll reviews joking about robot sex or telling you to stop looking for an excuse to not buy the game).
I love how there is literally like NO un necessary downtime. dont have to sit through animations besides that expressly made to limit dps in a tactical way. just sitting back abd playing the grid casually is a blast. the game loop is so fantastic. doom is a great game, but the kill animations kind of get boring after a while (plus im kinda glad someone else felt like they couldnt go back to doom after this game, since that was my feeling too. even though like you, still liking it). also, sometimes just flexing flashy parkour is super fun. definitely my relax game for the last while. its just great. I know its cliche but it has that nice “cheese” feel without extraneous stuff, just chaining together stuff and having great dynamic options in entry. do I use the coin? thepower pistol, the rocket shotgun? the overcharge shotgun? boom arm? deflect arm? its great choosing between them and getting into a flow of combat and movement. its just pure, relaxing, gamesex. something to do to have a sear stylish fun and chill. also, glad I can follow you on yugioh and this stuff. glad you have the same taste in both for me.
i dont know how the glory kills could get boring for you but i understand if you prefer utrakill over doom etenal (or 2016) utrakill is a way simplier game which its either makes or breaks the game for people
i think the kill animations in doom are meant to be a one time "oooh, gory" thing for newer players for people who only play casually, they probably don't play enough to get bored of the animations or just don't exactly care, altho i get where ur coming from for people who take the game seriously, they won't be glory killing/chainsawing for the animations as they work as both resource replenishment and quick downtime to pick yourself up and strategise on what to do next. if they were too flashy it'd be hard to focus on your surroundings and plot an escape route out of the inevitable crowd of demons around you, let alone form a plan to kill them ^(suppose this is a preference thing tho, i've seen serious players who don't use them like that but the option is there)
@@JimJamTheAdmin you dont have to worry about ammo, you dont have have to worry about healing cause all you need to heal is get close to someone , you have infinite ammo , you get i frames when you get hit meaning you dont have to worry about getting delete in 1 milesecond like in other fps this is what i mean by ultrakill being simplier

Your presentation, humor, and explanations are all impeccable as always. Honestly I want to comment one how much I love the number of times you would have a "we'll get back to that" scene appear before moving on to something else about a level or continue a stage, Its such a great mental bookmark for viewers to the context of secrets and what a first time player would know of when seeing them when you eventually wrap back around to them. A lesser creator would have just ran through a level with the normal ending in mind and separate the secrets into a different section with real no anticipation being built and those little teases im sure defiantly lead to higher view engagement on this video. 19:00 i feel like this secret is very funny, i didnt even understand the reference but imo the secret is good, and it broke out a laugh in me since there is a whole buildup for a bossfight and then you are greeted with a rodent that cant do anything to you, even though it does break immersion, it has enough reason to, its a fun secret
It's upsetting to see how little attention this has gotten so far, but I after 4 days finally decided to give it a chance, and I love what I saw. Don't give up! You can branch out, it'll just take work to either convert the fools, or reach a new audience.

Great now I'm thinking of some psychotic gameplay mix of Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories and DOOM themed around Yu Gi Oh, where you run around fiddling with a deck of card effects whilst a shit tone of very pissed off monsters try to OTK you with their bare hands.
This could be a fusion between gambler of legend - arcana force - vendread
Too bad outside of splashing in The World mixing the two just hobbled Ultrakill.
Its kinda like the ABC/XYZ unions though, youre better off playing pure Ultrakill instead of splashing in arcana force.

Right? This was the first video I've seen from the man and he has gotten me hooked from start to finish! Granted, I already love the game, but to make the video as entertaining as it is despite me already knowing much of the lore speaks as to how amazing he is at making videos.
Act 2 just came out, hoping for a review
Wow. Rata was *not* joking about the secret level in the Greed chapter. Without getting into the specifics, it’s completely batshit, and I love it.
22:10 The bar of soap is probably a reference to DUSK, which has a similar prop you can throw at enemies for a one-hit kill.
To find out why mandalores secret is so blatant, you can find the Twitter thread by searching
"now that the greed spoiler embargo is lifted" and getting to the ultrakill twitter :)
It also one shots everything in ultrakill too
Rewatching this video is always good fun, good background noise and just overall entertaining. I hope you'll continue this 'series' with the other acts that have come out!
“Or you can [use the coin to] just bribe your enemies to leave you alone! I made that last one up.”
What’s funny is that this is actually a thing, if memory serves. You can toss a coin to the ferryman to skip his boss fight.

+NAILBOMBED
The rocket launcher that us coming in the next update is also attracted to nail magnets so it has more uses now.
I don’t know why but this video is just so rewatchable. I find myself coming back to it over and over.
I've probably left 4 youtube comments in my life before this, but I really wanted to voice my support for you doing other kinds of content. the thing about Minos prime that makes him unique is that he refers to you as "creature of steel", he sees you as a sentient object capable of responsibility for your own actions, whereas Gabriel refers to you as an "object", and tells you to turn back instead of killing you straight up.

Gotta take a second to appreciate the fact that the intro message for P1 Soul Survivor only shows up *after* killing flesh prison.
I know its cliche but it has that nice “cheese” feel without extraneous stuff, just chaining together stuff and having great dynamic options in entry. do I use the coin? thepower pistol, the rocket shotgun? the overcharge shotgun? boom arm? deflect arm? its great choosing between them and getting into a flow of combat and movement.
its just pure, relaxing, gamesex. something to do to have a sear stylish fun and chill.
also, glad I can follow you on yugioh and this stuff. glad you have the same taste in both for me.
i dont know how the glory kills could get boring for you but i understand if you prefer utrakill over doom etenal (or 2016) utrakill is a way simplier game which its either makes or breaks the game for people
i think the kill animations in doom are meant to be a one time "oooh, gory" thing for newer players
for people who only play casually, they probably don't play enough to get bored of the animations or just don't exactly care, altho i get where ur coming from
for people who take the game seriously, they won't be glory killing/chainsawing for the animations as they work as both resource replenishment and quick downtime to pick yourself up and strategise on what to do next. if they were too flashy it'd be hard to focus on your surroundings and plot an escape route out of the inevitable crowd of demons around you, let alone form a plan to kill them
^(suppose this is a preference thing tho, i've seen serious players who don't use them like that but the option is there)
