    Tesla should do what they did on the C5 Corvette line. The plate location was built into the front end with a cover over it, if you didn't mount a plate. It didn't look hideous and because they had the Corvette name on it, it looked really good.
    Never use a heat gun to remove a stick on part. Use WD40 and fishing line. I've done this for years and works every time. WD40 does not hurt the paint.

    I just took mine off this morning! Your video was great and extremely helpful. It took me less than 10 minutes. I tried using dental tape instead of dental floss as it is much stronger, but it broke too. Fortunately, the heat gun (hair dryer in my case) softened the adhesive tape sufficiently to pull the bracket off as you did. A few minutes of rolling any residual tape off the car, a touch of Goo Gone on a microfiber to clean any remnants of adhesive and some Meguiar's Waterless Wash and Wax and voila!!! What a difference!!!

    When I ordered a Model S Plaid I asked the Tesla Service Center why I couldn't delete the plate in the order as I did when I got my 2015 P90D. I was told that Tesla got the new crash test certification using cars with front plate holders so they had to ship all cars with them.

    I've also had good success with some light heat gun plus fishing line to slice through the tape with less pulling on the base paint. Looks 💯 better without that giant red plate mount though!

      Don't use a heat gun, use WD40.

    Heavy duty fishing string works better than floss

  • @ryanjay9820

    The best way to do this for me was using fishing line. Wear garden gloves so you don’t hurt your fingers and floss through the adhesive. After that use your fingers to remove the adhesive. Finally clean it up with a microfiber and a product called butter wet wax. No heat gun needed and took me 15 mins

    Are Model S crash tested with this front plate mount? That would be the reason why it's on the car at delivery. I would be very cautious with a heat gun, the bumper is plastic. Medium heat gun setting, it looked like you were about 4" away?

  • @reasonmath
    @reasonmath ปีที่แล้ว

    What temp on the dial did you set on heat gun?

  • @marcweiser8669
    @marcweiser8669 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    They do it because thats how they do the crash test studies so they have to have that on it when delivered

    Wouldn't Goo Gone eat the paint?

    I can't stand front plates on cars. I never installed one on my Model 3 and thankfully the police don't seem to care

      Yeah, it all depends on the area. We can go without in our local area, but put it on when we travel to bigger cities where they enforce it. If 20 out of 50 states don't require them, seems like we could all get by without.

    • @Resist4
      @Resist4 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doesn't really matter what we think about front plates, because driving is a privilege and not a right. But instead of blaming States that have this requirement, blame the auto industry for not designing less intrusive front plate areas.

    They told me it was crash tested with it on there, so they had to leave it on there. 2021 Model S Plaid

    No need to take the cover off or a heat gun. It doesnt help with the removal.

      We have a SnapPlate+ for the EU developed, but shipping it is either prohibitively expensive or unreliable, so we're still working out what we're going to do there.

    Try Glide floss.

    • @buccianti
      @buccianti 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also came here to recommend oral b glide floss. The target floss is way too cheap. It even breaks when I’m flossing

      No...try WD40 and fishing line. WD40 works great for removing adhesive and doesn't harm the paint.

      @@AndrewAffolter as I already said, it doesn’t hurt the paint at all. However, it does need to be rinsed off with soap and water.

    Shame on Tesla. It would cost them LESS to just throw it in the trunk, like they used to and save them time too.
