Model S Long Range has been running around 10.8 @ 129 mph in the 1/4 mile. For comparison, a Model S Performance Raven will run 10.4 @ 127 in Ludicrous+ with full launch mode, and about 10.7@124 in regular Ludicrous mode without battery pre-heating. Yes, it is worth noting that the new Model S Long Range accelerates 60-130 mph in 7.25 seconds (or 100-200 km/h in 6.5 seconds). This is faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S by 0.5 seconds. Me 2 since March. Just checked tesla and they are showing 2022 Feb deliveries for LR. Just a few days ago it showed Sept/Oct 2021. What gives? Does it mean our LR are going to be end of the year?
@@henrylee8510 I think the February 2022 delivery schedule for the Model S long range is for new orders. According to TH-cam, which is never wrong or misleading, at least some people are taking delivery of the Model S long range (hereinafter referred to as "SLR"). Here's a guy from a couple hours away from me who seems like a normal person th-cam.com/video/eBCJ3dGIlLQ/w-d-xo.html (drove SLR from Houston to Seattle last week). If it was a Mercedes or a BMW, you wouldn't be so caustic. The problem is who's paying you. I have a Tesla and I can't say the new model has anything less. It's superlative. A very practical family car and very easy to maintain. yes, I'm talking about Tesla Plaid.
On cars with an airbag in the steering wheel, the "push and pull" steering method should be used for safety. This method prevents your arms from crossing in front of the airbag, which can cause severe injuries to your arms or hands. Of course, the yoke makes this extremely awkward or impossible.
Finally! The review I’ve been searching for and couldn’t find until now. Thank you! Now I know I made the right decision to order the LRS. Looking forward to follow up videos on more long term impressions. Keep them coming!
@6:47 It's important to note that what you're doing here doesn't appear to be a three-point turn (K-turn). I say that because when doing a three-point turn, you should end up going the opposite direction as the entire point is that it serves as a method to turn around on a road when there's no other option. I think the point of those videos is that the yoke is harder to deal with when you're doing quick hand maneuvers because you really can't grab anywhere. That's something that I noticed pretty quickly during things like quick, consecutive turns when using the yoke.
Plaid is now $15,000 more than long range and comes standard with round wheel. Currently $74,990 for long range and $89,990 for plaid with 19 inch rims, black interior and any color. Ultra red was $3,000 option.
My only disappointment is the lack of cool interior lighting. For such a futuristic car, the interior lighting is poor to say the least. BMW and Mercedes are definitely ahead in that respect.
A 2014 freightliner I used to drive had the air horn on the wheel in about the same spot, hard to use it as it was a moving target you had to look down at the wheel to find it. They returned it to the spot where you would traditionally find the air horn. I think that may happen here especially the horn and signals people will get tired of chasing them.
Your Initial suggested technique for handling the yoke was really funny! Nice to see that when you actually used the yoke to steer, all of the laughably jerky, wild overreaching disappeared and you showed just how easy and natural turns actually are. Thanks for the silly initial demonstration, though. It was a hoot!
What you show at 1:20 for turning with the yoke is not how you have turn at 6:48. And it definitely seems more natural at 6:48 when you put your right hand on the bottom of the yoke for turning and not on the side of the yoke as you have explain at 1:20. Howewer nice review, one of the best if it is not the best ! (and sorry if my english is not perfect I'm french)
The new standard Model S may only be 0-60 in 3.1 but it is WAY faster than the Model 3 performance after 60mph. From 60mph it will pull away from the Model 3 Performance with ease. The 1/4 mile time for the Model S is very consistent at 10.9 vs 11.5 for the Model 3 Performance.
Nice review, I've ordered a white long range S to replace my 2015 model S. But I'm from europe (Netherlands), so closest thing to actually enjoy the car is watching youtube videos about it. Estimated delivery Q1 2022
Most useful review I've seen, and I've seen plenty. I have a long range X on order, outfitted with six seats, so two front, two middle, two rear (the rear two will be folded down 90% of the time). That should pretty much solve the middle row legroom problem.
The addition of an extra motor, which makes three PMSM, carbon-sleeved rotors, and a top speed of 200 mph. The Plaid is a hyper-sedan. They're not in the same category.
Great quality video! I love everything but the wheel 😅 so no… hope they can bring back the traditional one or make the new one as an option makes more sense
it would be really cool if we can shift gears with either of the scroll wheels on the yoke, and this function to be activated only when you have the foot on the brake and you are at 0 mph/kmh
Drove a Model S last Sunday at an EV gathering here in Florida. Tesla had 2 cars that you could test drive. I cannot believe how fast the Model S is. Not sure why anyone would want to spend another 35-40K for the Plaid. I was very impressed. And I own a C8 Corvette. But I don't think I could beat the Tesla Model S. Should I wait till the 1st of the year to see if the new batteries go into the S? Will there be any body changes for 2023?
A flat bottom steering wheel impairs the quality of driving. The only purpose of such a steering wheel is to provide a convenient exit from the car and try to stand out among other cars, because for people who are not well versed in cars, such a steering wheel looks cool. It is not surprising that such steering wheels are put in Audi.
Excellent review. It answers many questions I had about the Long Range. Overall, this is a very impressive car when compared with earlier versions of the Model S. I'm curious to see how the noise-cancellation system works when Tesla turns it on.
Am I understanding that the video car is a Long-Range S and has maybe an optional yoke? Based on other videos and the Tesla web site, I've understood that the Yoke only comes with the S-Plaid.
Something i haven't seen covered in any videos is a review on the sound system. Good bad or great? I know there was an update recently that activated the sub but still no reviews talk about it.
Face it, the vast majority of Tesla Plaid buyers get them for one thing....they are the fastest cars on the planet (a caveat here that I should mention is other European cars that come fairly close to the Plaids performance usually cost at least double the Plaids base price, and the Rimac Nevera, which is about a half second faster than a Plaid, last week was certified legal for all countries safety requirements, will only have 150 models made and costs $2,400,000 before options!) that you can buy from a manufacturer that you don't have to spend an additional $20-$30K to modify them to still be slower than a S Plaid. AND for you folks that agree and have interest in speed rather than how far we can go on a charge, or how much your Teslas will be worth 3 years from now, or the minor fit and finish issues that are always mentioned by Tesla haters, and are usually taken care by Tesla when mentioned when you buy this Model, this will be right up your alley! The TOP LINE Lucid Air offers 1,111HP, while the Plaid offers a supposedly 1,020HP, BUT there is a TH-cam video that has a Plaid on a 4 hub dyno that develops 1,101HP STOCK from the factory. The Plaid also weighs approximately 400 pounds LESS than the Lucid Air, and averages between $20,000 to $30,000 Less than the advertised $179,900 than the Lucid costs DEPENDING ON OPTIONS CHOSEN for each car. Last month a Tesla Model S Plaid in Napierville, Quebec set the new record for the fastest quarter-mile time for the electric sedan at 8.83 seconds and 161mph. The Model S had a stripped out interior for weight savings, as well as SV104 wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear and Michelin PS4 tires on the front. Not content with the blistering fast time, the same Model S Plaid has set a new record this week. At the same track in Napierville the Model S crossed the line in just 8.77 seconds at 162.55mph (261.60km/h), a 5.67 second 1/8 mile time and an outstanding 125MPH to 162MPH time in 3.1 seconds!!! As for what changed that allowed the car to go faster this time the owner, TMC user mulot30th, said there was an additional 60lb weight saving over the previous attempt due to someone else being behind the wheel on the run. Additionally he said there a slight change to the suspension. “Main change is suspension geometry change (slight) which reduce “tire drag” a little bit at least that is what I intended to do with that and have worked,” he said. Interestingly, the top speed at the end of his quarter mile run of 162.55mph is inches away from the electronically limited top speed (when not in Track Mode) of 163mph. As first told earlier this week, Quebec-based Ingenext was able to hack their way past that limiter and reached a top speed of 216mph (347km/h). As for this Model S Plaid, the owner says that while the car does not feel like it is slowing down when crossing the line, he feels there is not much room to improve beyond 8.77s with the current setup, but a BIG brake option available from Tesla and several other Tesla specific after market parts dealers at a much reduced price, and TOP OF THE LINE HIGH SPEED RATED STREET TIRES should also be used! You can check out the record runs both of TOP SPEED and FASTEST QUARTER MILE time on several TH-cam 9
@@scottw595Yes, 60-130 mph in 7.25 seconds. Faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo S with a gearbox, which Porsche claimed is proof that they are light years ahead of Tesla. Twice as fast as the Model 3 Performance. Faster than the BMW M5 Competition and similar cars.
Hey man, have you found any issues on yours? I've found quite a few (arguably relatively minor) issues upon delivery of my LR. I made a video about it and I'm just curious whether these issues are contained in just a small batch. Awesome review, btw. Thank you!
yoke steering, touch buttons and gear selection using AI / infotainment system are all solutions for problems that they created. What's wrong with having fixed stocks to perform vital operations in a car? What's wrong with having your horn in the airbag or the stock? What's wrong with properly adjusting your steering wheel and seat position so that you can have an unobstructed view of the dashboard? What's wrong with having a 4-position switch/knob to select what gear you want?
It’s perfect for autonomous driving when you won’t need those things in the first place. The Yoke is great for flooring it. But yeah rn it gets forced on you. And touch buttons are never a great solution.
There's a gap in the roofline at 18:51. Is that intentional? I don't see it at 1920 (the other side of the car) but that may only be the camera angle creating a faux view.
But the important question is where’s the Caraoke app, it’s missing! :) I’ve had my long range now for 3 weeks or so (traded I my 2013 S) and it’s like going from a Blackberry to an iPhone. Unfortunately I’ve had to replace my center screen already but I’m still in love with the car.
Good review but you didn't cover any of the underpinnings. What's different underneath; brakes, suspension, steering, front/rear castings, battery type and so on. The rest we can all see. The lack of leg support in the back seat you skipped over completely, that surprised me a lot as it's quite shockingly poor. I have no idea why this wasn't fixed during the remake, but maybe Monroe will let us know. The space in the back behind a 6'-5" front passenger is a bit mute as he can move the seat slightly forward without ruining his comfort, but point taken. Nice car, definitely my favorite Tesla. Long Range all day long.
19:02 - they are definitely not adaptive headlights, they only have a corner function, something cars already had in 1980. they are never going to be like european adaptive headlights
As far as I know, adaptive headlights are not allowed in the US. However, the new Model 3 and Model Y headlights can technically be adaptive, but no software has been written for them yet.

Another thing about the in cabin camera is that there's also an IR camera located within that housing too.
The stearing wheel looks unconffortable
Most useful review I've seen, and I've seen plenty. I have a long range X on order, outfitted with six seats, so two front, two middle, two rear (the rear two will be folded down 90% of the time). That should pretty much solve the middle row legroom problem.
Thank you. When’s your expected delivery. Mine says January
@@jon4lakers Mine used to say January, but as far as I can tell they've deleted the date field entirely!
This is one of the most in-depth reviews of this car I have seen yet. Well done Sir!
It's a lot faster than the performance 3 because this car can trap 130 mph in the quarter mile versus 117 for the model 3 Performance
The addition of an extra motor, which makes three PMSM, carbon-sleeved rotors, and a top speed of 200 mph. The Plaid is a hyper-sedan. They're not in the same category.
I do not say this about a lot of TH-cam videos but this video is amazing
You need to know if you order either car with 19" wheels, you do not know when they will start delivery due to "regulatory" issues with the wheels.
Thanks for the detailed review! Everything's all great, except the steering wheel is kinda meh when you do quick maneuvering...
I love the yoke because your comment is TWICE the meh than you think.
Yoke is terrible too bad it's the only option for model s/x
There is bound to be a company working on a 3rd part accessory.
Super helpful and non-biased review! Also provides some insights into what the X will be like inside. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed.
I think if I could have any type of steering, I would go with the combination between the yoke and stalks. That's how it's in the roadster.
Thanks for the review! How about interior creeks and rattles or weird squeeks from the door panels, dash or interior materials?
Model S long range is 3.1 0-60. Model 3 performance is 3.1 0-60* *with 1foot rollout subtracted. So not the same, faster than the 3 performance.
The new Model S does the quarter mile in 10.6 @129 mph.
Great quality video! I love everything but the wheel 😅 so no… hope they can bring back the traditional one or make the new one as an option makes more sense
Great in-depth review Jon! Glad you go too get behind a new Model S!
Thank you man!!!
it would be really cool if we can shift gears with either of the scroll wheels on the yoke, and this function to be activated only when you have the foot on the brake and you are at 0 mph/kmh
The best review I've seen so far.
on all new model s 👏👏👌👌
Appreciate that, thank you!
Hey Jon, great video! Can you share what your real world range has been like so far?
Only had it for a day, but 350 I’d say.
Really good review! Thank you!
What about Pandora? Or, for us that are traditional, can we plug in our phone and stream pandora from it?
Classic John review, in depth with all details 👌👌
Appreciate you!
It's now $15,000 more than the model S long range.
Pity about the lack of some tech like AR HUD.
Has the back space/front seats been modified....Is the back seat on the new Model S smaller than the older ones?
Thanks! Best Model S review so far!
Very well done review.
Does the rear screen plays game now?
Nice video Jon!
Thank you josh!!!
It’s a cart steering yoke..
BMW does not even provide a flat bottom steering wheel, but does delivery a great driving experience
@@bayes1124 p.s I am a fan of a full wheel.. the pleasure it gives to brush my palms while the steering turns back into neutral position after a turn
I just ordered one replace my BMW X7.. my concern is rear seat leg room.. I wish rear seat has 2 or 3 more inch leg room
Excellent review. It answers many questions I had about the Long Range. Overall, this is a very impressive car when compared with earlier versions of the Model S. I'm curious to see how the noise-cancellation system works when Tesla turns it on.
It’s on and it’s 😢
Amazing review!
Thank you Chris.
@@jon4lakers I grew up watching your iPhone videos /reviews and that got me a job in Tech. Thanks for inspiring me all these years. GOAT
Great content! Can you comment on how the white interior has held up? I’m on the fence due to kids. Also, his is the ride comfort on the 21”?
Would you get the 19" or 21" rims?
Am I understanding that the video car is a Long-Range S and has maybe an optional yoke? Based on other videos and the Tesla web site, I've understood that the Yoke only comes with the S-Plaid.
negative, no
Was hoping for some objective numbers on acceleration like Dragy? D-Pointed.
Great cinematic review, top notch quality! :D
I recently purchased the PNP coin. Tbh, I’m very impressed with the service that they are providing. Can you post a video on the PNP coin
What about ambient lighting and active noise cancellation? Both were advertised on the website.
Something i haven't seen covered in any videos is a review on the sound system. Good bad or great? I know there was an update recently that activated the sub but still no reviews talk about it.
Great review, can't wait to get my Midnight Silver LR MS. Yours looks spectacular.
When you busssss 7:38
I think people who don’t like Sudans for the lower sitting position, would accept the compromise 😉
All that interior white...what happens with stains, easily showing up...are they easily cleaned?
Fyi it is faster than a M3P. Tesla performance cars includes rollout to achieve 0 to 60 times. Non performance doesn't include rollout.
155 vs 162 so technically the S long range is slower.
0-60 vs the Performance is a wash. The 60-120 is where the S fly’s.
@@scottw595 at top speed sure.... the LR is the quicker car technically.
@@bayes1124 I still ordered the plaid just to make sure!
@@scottw595 you will love it... just try to restrain yourself. Its super easy to hit triple digits speeds in that car.
Hello from Germany. This is a very well made review. Thank you very much.
Excellent review. Thank you very much!
First principles. No part is the best part. All input is error. Just because we used to do it doesn't make it right.
I’m guessing it’s the trunk
Superior headlights on cars even much cheaper. The US regulators are dinosaurs.
Cadillac CTS-V had true adaptive (rotating) headlights back in 2013.
update, we love your show & spacex. we just got our S dual motor fsd while the tri/4? motor fsd cybertruck gets here. i'm all in TSLA & i love all Elon Musk does & will keep doing..we've drove from California to Boca Chica to see the Star Ship & it was so awesome to see it getting built in person!! we have LOTS of SOLAR & backup battery system to charge them both
Great video! You answered a lot of questions we all are having about ordering this car. Can you keep the backup camera on while driving? I love that in my 17 S!
And do you find that the steering wheel buttons are hard to find, or press them by mistake while turning wheel ?
Yes you can on camera and yes for buttons. I imagine muscle memory will kick in eventually though.
@@jon4lakers I'm sure you saw Marques Brownlee review. The buttons where really the only negative about the car. Thank you for replying!! Awesome
Did you ever figure out if you could connect headphones for the back seats forthwith kids to watch movies and play music up front?
It’s not a wheel as anyone who knows geography will know that means a full circle. It’s a steering yoke.
When rotating the wheel did you accidentally activate any of the touch buttons?
I don’t believe so.
AWESOME vid Jon, thanks for putting this together! Have been waiting for someone to really celebrate the MS LR since MS Plaid is getting all the buzz...What tint % did you do on your ride? I'm about to do my '21 Long Range S, yours looks perfect!
That’s stock!
Model S doesn’t come with tinted windows stock.
Great detailed review
Good fair review. Well done!
Phenomenal review
Jon you didn't put up the tweet from Elon stating that the model 3 & the model y is going to get auto shift in the video. The image only shows talks about the Model S.
It's friggin beautiful, I feel like all of the German cars feels outdated now. I hope someday I can buy this beauty.
Not a great driving wheel... But such a nice (and expensive) car
Thank you Jon, that was an amazing and very thorough and impressive review of the new LongRange Model S. Just what I was looking for, as a first time viewer to your channel, this is awesome!
Pretty lame that the rear screen and audio cannot be completely independent from the front. Heck, even you mom's 15 year-old minivan can do that.
But maybe they can fix that with a software update.
Yer really good Jon!
I guess that’s why I subscribe:D
🙏🙏🙏
how is the space on the rear of the new model S compared to a Model 3?
It felt really small to me.
@@jon4lakers so you are saying that it has less leg room on the rear than the Model 3?
@@juanmedinar20 Cany say for certain, just how it felt to me.
Really great overview! I know what my decision is!
Dude!!!! Going Plaid????
Are the rotors in the long-range motors also wrapped in carbon fiber? What do the standard wheels look like under the aero covers?
No. They are for the Plaid.
I hate the steering wheel. Test drove one last week.
Amazing video
Thank you!
Is there a way to make the drivers display light mode?
No. Would look weird.
