  • Recently, I have published a small series of video's reviewing some of the micro/pocket pistols for conceal carry. Now let’s take a look at the opposite end of the spectrum at the full size 1911 for everyday carry.

I carry my 1911 all day at work. A good belt and holster combo distributes the weight pretty good and it's not a problem.

Howdy Ungrateful, always good to hear you in the the comments brother! I am assuming a standard “duty” belt and holster like the police? I wear one 5 days a week. Or are you wearing something different?

I live in Tennessee went and got my enhanced carry permit. I carry all the time, which is a springfield 1911 milspec stainless steel pistol. Its a heavy gun. But I open carry and conceal carry. I went out and bought iwb and owb holsters and kaylex holster. I love the holsters from we the people holsters. I just had to learn how to learn how to shoot left handed due to a traffic accident I lost my right hand. And learning how to rack the slide one-handed. Its a big learning curve, but im enjoying myself.

Enjoyed your video as I am a retired security officer who is 5'5" and 145 to 150 lbs. Have been carrying a full sized 1911 45 for a few years now. Recently acquired a Springfield milspec and love it. I carry concealed in a good o.w.b holster on a strong, stiff belt under an open untucked shirt which works just fine.

    • @n721sw
      @n721sw  ปีที่แล้ว

That's fantastic, man I love the Springfield. I definitely agree with the stiff belt. The belt is the foundation of your carry system, one could have the most high-speed expensive gun, but if the belt fails, you don't have much at all. It's neat to know that there are guys out there carrying the full size 1911, thank you for the kind words and you comment!

I carry the SA Mil spec 1911 everyday, including at work welding. Inside the waste-band concealed.
With a cheap leather belt the gun is very heavy and very uncomfortable. But if you a good steel core belt, it takes 85% of the weight off. Feels like your carrying a micro pistol.
Love this gun, very reliable. I have changed the hammer to a commander style and put on a beavertail grip safety and a bigger thumb safety. Other than blacking out the rear sights with a permanent marker, that’s it. Love this gun.

I think that is an excellent home defence pistol and I carry one government model AIWB provided I wear jeans and a good carry belt. I happen to live in the tropics so no coats or jackets, it's hot all year round. Quality ammo availability in my country is spotty at best. That's why I choose one in 45 since FMJ ammo still has good stopping power, but I recognize that for me, is pretty heavy for every day carry. That's why most of the time my carry gun is a light weight revolver becacuse is easy to hide bellow a light shirt and no matter what kind of ammo I have, it's going to shoot it reliably.

I just got my 1911 yesterday, a Springfield Armory mil-spec. On TH-cam I kept hearing everyone say how heavy they are. I put mine fully loaded on my beltamd walked around with it for a couple hours around the house and thought "everyone thinks this is heavy??".
It might just be me but the 1911 isn't heavy at all and was actually quite comfortable. I can't wait to get my concealed carry. We'll see how comfortable it is for me then.

I have carried many guns over the years. I carry a pocket pistol from time to time. But we had a gunman in Allen Texas not too long back and he was in the tactical garb. I went out a week later and bought a RIA 1911 45 A1. Been carrying it for the most part every since. These people are getting more crazy and I want the 45. I also carry a 357 GP 100 as well but not as much as the 45. I don't have anything against 9mm and I have a couple of those I will carry too. But my 1911 is my Walmart gun. I carry it any place that I feel like extended range could come into play. I have 3 to 7 yard guns. I have 7 to 15 yard guns and I have 15 + yard guns. Expected maximum range is what I carry for that moment.

I carry a full size box stock 45 automatic 1911A1 all day everyday everywhere. I carry 2 spare magazines and 230 grain hardball FMJ. The 1911 is slim so it carries well inside the waistband at 3 o’clock. The T-shirt covers the pistol with no effort. The 2 spare magazines can be a pain but I carry them 9 o’clock on the belt. There’s some weight there but once you get used to it you don’t notice it. People complain about the weight. Come on guys, 5lbs distributed on your belt is not heavy!

That’s a great question, I would carry the 1911, of course the draw back is the magazine capacity. I reviewed the Colt Combat Elite last week and it held 8 rds instead of the seven. And it shot an amazing group. About 1 1/2 inch at 20 feet. I’ve never shot my service Glock that accurate ever.

@@n721sw I also have the same Springfield Mil Spec. It’s been very reliable but I only have about 140 rounds through it. I won’t trust a 1911 until I’ve got at least 600 rounds through it. 500 rounds being the break in period and the next 100 rounds it must have zero malfunctions. The 1911A1 I carry has 1,700 rounds through it. Anyways, I wanted to mention that Wilson Combat makes 10 round magazines for the 1911 that I’ve found to be extremely reliable. I carry my 1911 with the standard 7+1 magazine and my 2 spare magazines are 10 round Wilson Combats. Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy your content!

The worse thing a Person can do with a full size high cap handgun is leave it in the car or truck with NRA or various gun manufacturers stickers in the back window. I see that all 5he time and just shake my head. And it has nothing to do with getting pulled over. And everything to do with theives busting out a window and stealing your guns. Alcohol only bars and anywhere else your not legally allowed to pack is a good place to get robbed. Just wanted to throw that out in the discussion. I noticed the first run had more muzzle flip.

That’s good stuff Tony. Especially in East Tennessee, there is a gun in almost every truck. Man I use to be bad to leave in my truck, I’d run in to the store, pay for gas, bla bla. I realized how stupid that was, I probably not gonna get into a shootout driving down the interstate, it’s gonna be when I’m out of my truck.
I also picked better concealed carry holsters that made it better/easier to carry with my shorts and t-shirts.
If I’m outside my home, I am armed, guaranteed… And nobody would even know it…
