One of the first games my Dad ever took me to at the Boleyn, aged 12. Remember Everald La Ronde looking like a really promising young left back. Such a shame injury wrecked his career before it ever really started..
I think it was just too big for him at United. He was a bit unlucky at times. The longer he went without scoring just increased the pressure on him and it became too much.
Munich and ICF chants quite noticeable. Then it kicks off at half time. I think the Arsenal game Brian Moore was talking about was the smoke bomb game. Plus a young fan was killed outside Highbury after that game. Early 80’s football I suppose. This is my football, I started watching United a couple of seasons later. The only thing I don’t miss is all the violence and that.
Thanks for posting.Never saw this match before..Love the Old Adidas Kits on both Sides.Classic Kits and Great Old Ground.
I like how Brooking sits down on the advertising hoarding before the last corner and the fans around him all pat him on the back.
I would have loved to have seen him at United. Sort of player perfect for us.

Never heard of him before watching these highlights tbh.
I think that's the last we see of Gary Birtles in a United shirt.

Was not a big Man Utd following. Was quite small for them.
@@simonmaskell365? Day of the march from Stratford. Huge following. Normally got 2 thirds of the terrace then and always a few scattered in the seats
