Omg he's the cutest! I see many happy adventures in the future. We use an old yoga mat for Cooper in the tent. Also, tick checks!

    Here are my tips:
Inside the tent: my dog wears little socks (for kid) so there is less dirt inside the tent. It also prevent to rip the tent. When it is cold, he wear a dog vest.
At night, i hang up a little light to his colar. So I can see where he was. Camping and backpacking with a dog it’s the best!

Hey Justin, cute addition to the family! Could you do me a favour and give us some tips on ordering from garage growing gear… Or talk to them to see if they can make it simpler? I want to order a few things a couple months ago and the shipping cost was going to be three times the price of the very small items I was ordering. It seemed like it was a much more complicated process than other companies when shipping to Canada.

The more time in the tent the better. Helps them feel part of the pack. Loved this!

My sisters and I and both my boys camped before we walked in the cold mountain air. After checking on the kids all night long worried they’d freeze, I asked my dad how he kept us warm. He said, “we didn’t”. 😂😂😂. You do have the cutest dog btw❤

Great start. The more my dog camped and hiked, the more she liked it. I always brought her treats, and also had her own little pack.

Solid start. My pup was getting real jealous watching Pippin on his adventure while he sits on his couch. One thing I have encountered while hiking with my Corgi/Lab mix is the impact that the texture and temperature of the terrain can have on his paws. Those dog “booties” may seem ridiculous to some but after tearing up his “spoiled pup” paws on one trip IMO they are a good addition depending on terrain and temperature. Thanks for the video. 🤙

Justin, we’re about to take our two 12 week old welsh corgis camping in the Gazelle T3X with an Exped MegaMat Duo 10. Wish us luck no accidents on our Zenbivy sheet 😅

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤ I took my boy camping for the first time and had a problem at night. He doesn't like to have anything on top of him! Poor guy was shivering, eventually he let me pull him under my unzipped sleeping bag to snuggle and he warmed back up. I had a fleece coat for him but it didn't keep him warm enough. So I will need to either train him to accept blankets on him or get a better pair of pajamas for him. I made sure to bring a few treats for him, and one of his toys (just make sure the toy isn't scented!). He had a good time sniffing everything during the day, and going on walkies, so overall a very good experience for him.

Pippin is adorable, and the luckiest pup to end up in your adventurous family! We’re getting our new puppy at the end of November and I can’t wait to take her camping next year. With our old dog, some things that helped were a cheap waterproof picnic blanket as a dry/clean place to hang out on. But like kids I always found that the fresh air and walks would tucker her out and she’d sleep like a log. I really like your pen, I’ll definitely get one of those for our new puppy!

Next project an illustrated book teaching leave no trace priniciples? Pippin Poopin on the Trail. 🐶 ❤ One of my first trips out with my pup we forgot that a covered crate in the house creates a longer “night time”. In a tent in July in the northern BC rockies the sun comes up at 3:47 am. Rise & shine 🌞

Our 18 month old 60lb labradoodle comes with me on every camping trip now and LOVES the wild and our tent. What dog wouldn't? Pups are a big responsibility of course, definitely a 2 person job for a while.

So cute! Please take it easy on walk while his body develops, rule of thumb = 5 min per month old until at least a year (so 25 min at 5 months if steady walk). This way he'll be able to hike with you that much longer in the future!

That's the best camping buddy there is! Make sure to give him time to grow up properly, don't start hiking to early and than you will have an amazing time.
I have several tips for camping and backpacking with a dog videos on my channel. Maybe they are helpfull to you.

What a cutie! Glad the trip went well. I've camped with two different medium-sized dogs and find that they often do get cold overnight in a tent when temps are around freezing. (I've woken up to find them shivering! 😞) Now, we bring a dog bed and blanket when car camping, but also always put a coat on our dog at night. Helps her stay warm even if uncovered. The coat we have is Ruff Wear's "Furness." Happy camping!

Cute pup. I backpack with one of our huskies, Max or Mika, almost every time I go. Longest was a 5 day trip in the Cottonwood Lakes area of the Sierra Nevada range earlier this year. Takes a little extra work, but it's worth it to me. Enjoy your time with him.

Love backpacking with our Husky Jip, she's only 45lb! I take a small thermarest for her comfort (she's a Husky no blanket required) and floor protection in the tent and use a retractable leash attached to my belt when on the move, so far I've only done a couple of single night adventures on the Little/Big Elbow loop (see my videos!) but next year hope to make some 2 or 3 night trips. I have tried a pack on Jip so she can carry her food and some water, she seemed fine but not sold on the idea on warm days, worried she'll overheat. I use a small towel to clean her paws before entering the tent, sometimes she's not keen on going in to the tent but once in there's no way she'll go out in the dark LOL

Hi Justin, we have been backpacking with our dog at least 13 years. Two tips. Mushers wax for the paws and freeze dried dog food to cut down weight.

  • @UnlikelyHiker

Super cute pup! I started hiking with my pup as soon as I got her. Very short at first and now she hikes high peaks in the Adirondacks!
Tying a dog run line in between trees and attaching the dog to it via carabiner/leash decreases the pup getting wound around a tree. Once you have good recall you won’t need it. In a lean to at night I use the run as a longline in the lean to so she won’t take off in the middle of the night after wildlife.
    Good luck!

Love that tip. If it's rainy, do you just keep your dog in the tent or put a tarp over the lead area to keep the mud from their paws?

Nice Buddy you got! I keep my small dog warm with a coat at night and also at the last "peewalk" so he didnt gets to wet. an couse he is small (5,5kg) he sleeps in my sleepingbag ( carinthia defence 4). That bag is heavy but has a big hood where he fits next to my head.

I have a hoodie for my dog plus the Ruffwear sleeping bag which she prefers to sleep under rather than inside. For a pad I have Thermarest Z-Lite which I fold in half so she gets plenty of insulation.

We take the dog camping all the time. Last trip she went river rafting. The water was calm but moving fast. She popped three diff blow ups before we got her into the canoe. She didn’t want to sit and was making the canoe top heavy. But we had a blast. Id do again. Cut them dog nails so they dont pop air mattresses.

I wouldn't put him so close to that propaine. Dogs are really sensitive to smell / chemicals and that might affect his breathing / lungs long term.

  • @alpineearth
    @alpineearth ปีที่แล้ว

Cute puppy. What breed is he? Looks like a Dashound maybe? Edit: oops nope my breeder friend says no way lol. You are the gear pro so likely dont need any advice at all but here are a couple things we learned taking our pup in the back country...We have a dog tent from amazon that fits perfect in our vestibule but Pippin looks like he might stay small so may want to keep him inside. Might want to add some mesh patches to your kit. I didnt have them when my dog scratched a couple holes in our big agnes mesh. We had to just contend with the bugs that trip. Also, We use Tyvek on the floor inside the backcountry tents cause dyneema and really any light weight tent does not have a lot of puncture resistance. Dutchwear gear has a cool dog tent for under a tarp or on a dog line to keep the bugs off in bad bug days. It weighs next to nothing and ruffwear has the hitchhiker leash that goes around your waist and also turns into a dog line at camp or the longer knot a hitch. Both turns into a dog line you put a leash on so he can run between 2 trees. you can hang the tent from these. Check our vids for more dog gear. We take our Husky everywhere :)
