I took a cheap hammer and turned into a blacksmithing hammer...

Unglaublich was du aus dem ursprünglichen Hammer gemacht hast. Das die Oberfläche so glänzend werden kann🤩, hätte ich nicht für möglich gehalten. What was wrong with the first one ? And why u making a 200$ hammer with 10 $ tools ?
I understand the fun of doing this modification, but does the re-forging / fullering result in a better tool compared to using a standard stock sledge hammer with a simple face polishing ?

Great job though, it is worth more thant 200$!!!
he used a hammer, a blacksmith guillotine, post vice, anvil, forge, toaster oven, angle grinder. Let see, can get a similar hammer for $40 (I have a similar), guillotine made mine from scrap, but you can buy them for ~$80 or less, post vice $100 - $300ish, anvil as little or as much as you would like, but lets say a new one from Alex Steele $1400, but you can do with a block of steel from the scrap yard, forge $150 on up, toaster oven $40? angle grinder ~$60. Even with the brand new anvil less than $2k. If you can find a cheaper anvil, or anvil sub you likely can get this down to $1k easy.

$200, is a very reasonable price for a good hand made forging hammer. A decent tool is not cheap mass production crap and will serve you a lifetime.

nice work using the drawknife to shape the handle. Most people would use the bandsaw to cut the corners down and then grind and sand it to final shape.

Great looking hammer! However I'm confused about the difference between a big piece of hammer head steel turned into a different big piece of hammer head steel?
The shape, first piece had flat surface, the second one has rounded end... That helps for better control and its more accurate... I think so
@@tomaskara902 round end helps with spreading the hot metal. Leaves the surface rough, so the flat side. The horn of an anvil is used the same way. Look at blacksmith hammers, there are straight peen, cross peen, ball peen... one spreads left and right of hammer head, one toward and away, and ball or round end kinda both ways. I'd like to know about the swaging in part. I see this often, but unclear if it has purpose other than it looks nice (which is a valid reason)

The hammer Looks quite nice but it´s still a way to go for an ergonomic and good blacksmith hammer.
The balance looks not optimal and as far as I know Blacksmiths would not harden the eye part.

Why did you harden that BLACKSMITH hammer? Every blacksmith temperament their hammers, because you need The hammer softer than anvil.
