    I worked at a vintage guitar shop here in Seattle for many years from '95 to 2012. We were fortunate enough to have had a handful of these '58 through '60 Les Pauls come through our shop.
    It was always a special day when we got one in. We'd close for the day and take turns playing through some very fine vintage amps.
    One of my favorite combinations was the Les Paul into a narrow panel, 4 input '59 Tweed Super! These late 50s Les Paul's are truly a work of art that I would put up there with any D'angelico, Stromberg etc.
    Forget the hype because there isn't any! There's something really unique and almost mystical about these guitars. The way they respond, the feel of the neck, the lightweight, the Stunning Burst over the flametop and those PAF's!!
    While I know that I'll never be able to afford one I can at least say that I had the unique and pleasant experience to have played several of these beautiful instruments!

    That bridge pickup into that Bassman is fucking glorious. I've been a studio engineer for seven years and a player for 26 years, and that's probably the best tone I've ever heard, bar none.

    • @joelbauman852
      @joelbauman852 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      That's actually a Vibrolux but, yeah, you're right. Probably the best tone I've ever gotten with a guitar and amplifier. I did the same thing with the Deluxe Reverb (straight in, cranked, magical) but it didn't make the cut. Maybe an outtake reel is in order?

    • @Mathcartney
      @Mathcartney 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the colors are the biggest visual change, then you have the neck profile and some minor changes in the material of the covers, bridge and plastics. In 58 they started with the burst colors, latter in 59 came the cherry burst wich is the most valuable vintage gibson in these days, with the chubby neck

    • @richardmills5326

  • @ignacioibanez6138
    @ignacioibanez6138 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That tremolux, holy smokes…screams gloriously with that Les paul like it’s gonna explodes right there, what a tone! As an Amp Designer this is sound heaven, the uniqueness of this circuit is that is a fixed bias 6v6 without negative feedback (NF being common on cathode boas amps but not so on fixed bias) it gives this natural compression that breakup really fuzzy and creamy but yet articulate enough and also have quite high filtering for 6v6 fixed bias, more than the deluxe reverb and only similar to the bassman, and have a preamp like a 5e3 deluxe but with a long tail phase inverter instead of the cathodyne and a 5U4 rectifier not too much sag as 5y3 from a 5e3 and not too fast as a bassman 5ar4 and an oversized baffle, it gives a quite unique combination o elements that make this amp a one of a kind, I noticed how many people commented on the sound and while the guitar and pf course the player is a big part, you notice that the super reverb don’t sound quite as great as that cranked Tremolux in all it’s glory!

    Just get the custom shop Reissue used for around 3K, collectors are just paying for the mystique and collectibility...the Reissues will be more consistent than the OG’s and you don’t have to worry about dinging it up etc.

    Definitely reverb coming from somewhere when Joel's playing at the beginning. That amp doesn't have reverb. Was he using a pedal or was it coming from the room? If that's all from the room, it's a great room!

    • @joelbauman852
      @joelbauman852 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No reverb at all, on the amp or in post. Just happened to be an instrument and amplifier that sounded so good and resonated so naturally in the room they were in that it added "space" to the sound. There's a reason why people look for those old tweed amps-- those old pine cabinets are so naturally resonant that they take on the natural sound and resonance of the room they're in. No 'verb necessary. Fender added the reverb tanks to the '60s stuff because those newer cabinets were so heavy and overbuilt that they sounded dead and dry. Hence the reverb tank.
