I love tomatoes but in order to harvest some, a tomato roof should be built over them.
After about 12 years, my old tomato canopy has now given up the ghost.
In order for my tomatoes, which I now attach with strings instead of sticks, to hang securely, a more stable construction was necessary.
In order to keep the costs as low as possible, I used very cheap materials to build the tomato house. On the one hand, pallet straps and also shrink film for pallets. I was able to purchase it very cheaply from a shipping company.
For the wooden construction of the tomato roof I use frame wood measuring 6x4 cm. The roof for the tomatoes is 3x3m.
Everything was connected with wood screws and then reinforced with pallet strapping. To stiffen the tomato roof construction, I attached struts in the upper area in both tilting directions. The supports stand in metal ground sockets with additional screws to prevent the tomato house from weathering and being carried away.
The tomato roof became very stable and at the same time very light.
