The Kristin Chenoweth adlib is a long standing theatre tradition than on a performers last night they are allowed to go a little crazy and have fun with it
The last Popular seems to be where the Glindas put their stamp on it. Jana Stelley's is amazing, though it's in German. The Elphabas mostly cut loose with the riffs in Defying Gravity.
"I wrote a book... "How to be popular". Now, I've put together a top ten list how to help you. Elphie, everyday shower. Who knows, maybe some of that green's gonna come off. Deodorant, Elphie. Nobody likes a stinky witch. I think we've covered the hair, we'll get to that...
The conductor saw what was happening on stage but not the musiciens I guess, they were probably wondering why they needed to do this scene all over again 😂
the reason i think it is so hilarious when Kristen pulled out her book was that literally every single person in the cast and crew knew it was going to happen, EXCEPT FOR IDINA!! that’s that she was laughing so hard!!
I was there for Kristin's last performance. I could easily count it as one of the best days of my life since I got the tickets that day from relatives who weren't in the mood to see a show that day.
Brooke Shapiro They let it roll, but the reason Idina is laughing so hard is that EVERYONE ELSE, stagehands, cast members, understudys, EVERYONE BUT Idina knew it was going to happen. They kept it secret from her😂😂
At the show I saw, when Glinda threw the wand back during Popular, it bounced off the wall and came flying back at her. She giggled and threw it again, and you could see Elphaba cracking up and then trying to hide it. It was hilarious.
... Clean underclothes. That's all I'm gonna say. Look at your posture, that's no way to be popular! Bed made, room straightened, we've done that. Colors blended. The most important thing to have to make yourself popular is to keep your beautiful smile."
There was an audio out there of Eden Espinosa as Elphaba and Deede Magno Hall as Nessa. During the wicked witch of the east when Nessa calls Boq to come back, he misses his entrance and after like 10 second of awkward silence, Edens like "Where is that little guy" and her and Deedee keep yelling for him until he makes his entrance lmao.
There's also a cute bit in Popular with Kerry Ellis and Kendra Kassebaum where Kendra says "Elphabie, now that we're friends..." I think the "Elphabie" instead of "Elphie" is cute and hilarious.
I saw a wicked in London where the set broke and didn't move just before fiyero first comes on and Kerry Ellis burst into fits of laughter! People are human sometimes if somethingis funny you cant help but laugh, they're not robots!
I love how Annaleigh Ashford sings, "Out live a lie," even if she was getting attacked by bubbles. It was angelic. 03:52. Like or comment if you agree. :D My credits to this musical. I loved this so much when I saw it.
I think Idina was about to cry as well. Just instead of crying, she laughed a little. Last shows are always the best. Kristin and Idina's final defying gravity had the most feeling.
Kristin ad-libing with her book during "Popular" was a joke that she and the crew all knew about. Idina was the *only one* who didn't know it was going to happen. It was during Kristin's last performance in Wicked and Kristin wrote the book with the only objective of making Idina smile and laugh.
Its theater. Any thing goes. Its not any fun and it makes it feel even more fake when its always "super professional".!Getting out of character helps sometimes
I didn't see anything out of character in this whole reel. Elphaba laughing during the popular scenes is something she would do because she thinks it's ridiculous anyway.
OML I AM COMING BACK HERE REALISING THAT JENNIFER LAURA THOMPSON/THE GLINDA THAT COULDN'T CLIP THE FLOWER IN IS HEIDI HANSEN IN DEAR EVAN HANSEN OBC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of these ad libs are amazing! I've seen a lot of comments mentioning some lines, but is no one going to talk about the book part where Galinda says "colours blended-" and just looks at Elphaba before moving on?? Or Elphaba spazzing after yelling at Dorothy?
This is part of the reason I love Wicked, even though I haven't seen it live. They can fool around onstage in certain scenes, and it will look as if its part of the script.
@@kevinr.m.richardson812 In terms of musicals? It's far more likely to happen than not. Also it's not "lowering themselves" to anything - muck-up matinees are practically a tradition at this point; this is their last chance to enjoy themselves in these roles AND it gives the audience something to enjoy as well, sending them off on a high note. Besides, most actors are talented and sensible enough to do things that are either mostly unnoticeable or that still fit with the scene (Kristen's book adlib is a perfect example) so even if you've never seen the show before, it still makes perfect sense.
Am I the only Wicked fan who wants two totally new people to play Elphaba and Glinda in the movie? I don't want anyone who has done it on the stage because I want it to be as fresh and new as possible.
That 1st one...IDINA SOUNDS AMAZING! *GASP* The changes and the riffage...I LOVE HER! And the "Beautiful smile" bit just makes me go AAAAAAAAAWH! Teal Wicks seems to forget quite a lot lol, bless her. And Oh God, the last one on Christins last show is just the nicest moment EVER! Great collection of moments :-)
"No good deed goes unpunished!! Sure duh good-tentions duh-duh hrrmmmmm--" Wow, brilliant ad lib, Teal!! Those should have been the original lyrics! :D
I love how bloopers in broadway shows can help to make it more of an experience! I remember when i saw the wizard of oz and the dog that played toto pooed on the stage and they couldn't clean it up so they had to keep skipping over it and ad lib it in till a stage hand could clean up! The dog was very naughty through the whole thing
Agghh, I love Kristin's book! xDDD "Blend of color." *looks at Idinda.* "..." *moves on* Attacking bubbles was just fun. Because...they were...bubbles...attacking. Hell yeah. And the FLOWER!! This scene will NEVER get old! Ever..! XD I love watching both their faces... Jennifer looks so calm at first, and then she purses her lips and sticks out her tongue... Shoshana is just in hysterics. xDD "Bee-bye"...? Someone's been watching too much Lucky Star... A great collection. x3

I love how Idina isn’t even trying to stay in character when Kristen brings out the book lmao
Harmonizer ikr i love them 😂 and i see you everywhere wtf lmao
same lol. Although if they're becoming friends and messing around in there dorm room I could see her laughing her ass off at Glinda's antics

imagine doing that in Hamilton 💀
best thing about live theatre. you could see the same show 50 times and never the same performance.
SOMEONE SAID IT

Kristin's "Popular" book goes down in iconic Wicked moments right along with JLT unsuccessfully putting the flower in Shoshana's wig.
Braden Mills Its like one of those Clips for a 4 year old (I would mess it up too though ngl)
In the flower, you have to give props to the orchestra.
Gaby Gibson lol specially those violins😂

yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoever is in charge of that bubble machine must've been playing a prank on her
+TheHungerGirl I think that new audience members thought that it was part of the show.
I don't really get why she reacted to them, she should have kept singing or maybe waved her wand to blow them away
TheHungerGirl I would like that to be an actual part of the musical
Idina cracking up made my week
Lindsay Mendez did a wizard voice it was cute lol
+Ana Esparza look up Lindsay mendez AMAZING the Wizard and I
I cannot stop loving Kristen’s popular
And Annaleigh getting attacked and not laughing is amazing, proof that she’s AN ANGEL
The best is still missing. I'm still mad nobody ever caught the night Shoshanas lift didnt take off and she just went riff crazy and peaced out #imout
"Pink panties" will always be my favorite "Popular" ad-lib.

I have the full performance with the underwear scene. It was really good

When Kristen ad libs, do the audience know she is messing up and why does aiding laugh?
I believe they do and indina didn't know
I think it was hyped up and people fought for those seats since it was her last night, kind of like when Lin Miranda left Hamilton recently.
Kristen did it on purpose, and the audience thought it was funny.
Idina didn’t know that why she was laughing so hard Everyone else knew (but the audience of course)
there was one popular with Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker where Rachel literally fell face on the floor from her bed.

All actors do that on their last show
Sadly it's not uncommon even among professionals, but it's hardly all who lower themselves to it.
