The Laphraoig 1815 Legacy was a Travel Retail Bottle which came back in the regular stores and online shops after a while. In Germany you get these between 70-90 Euro. Quite expensive for an NAS Whisky. Tastewise it is a solid whisky with sherry influences. Dark dried fruits and peat smoke. For me a little bit to harsh, and too pricy in my opinion. The Laphroaig Lore is another bottling which cost 60-70 Euro in Germany. The better option to choose. In the Lore are small amounts of 15 to 21 year old aged whisky in it. They are young ones in too, but I think the Lore is a little bit more rounded in comparison to the 1815 Legacy. But both are not my favourites :) Greetings from Germany. Stefan
This is bonkers. I used to go to Japan for work about 3 times a year, this will definitely be on my list once I can go back again. I wonder if there are others like this...
That limited edition bottle of the Hibiki 21 @ 5:28 can be sold for a good profit here in Australia. If only I could travel back in time and stock up on all these discontinued alcohol.
The 15-year Johnnie Walker 15 Gold was about 80 USD, I bought but haven't opened it. I previously bought a couple of Red and Black label from the 80th & 90ths and we one exception, they are all fantastic. Very different from its contemporary siblings. I also bought one of the 21-year Chivas Salute. I only got about 350 ml out of the bottle, the remains was very syrupy oxidized but quite nice. The ballantine`s from the 80th 43%, 750 ml is fantastic for the money (45 USD)
The online retailer Rakuten Japan has lots' of older bottles of Chivas and Glenfiddich in ceramic decanters. The Laphroaig 1815 Legacy is a Travel Retail Exclusive bottle. The regular Yamazaki 12 can occasionally be found at MRP around 10,000 yen but is often sold at twice the price on the secondary market. At minutes 6:45, the Mars Komatake bottle might be a good value at 13,800 yen--these are genuine Japanese whiskies from the Hombo Distillery. Konosuke is still very young and is also releasing genuine Japanese whiskies.
Hello Alan, yes, you are right. Sometimes you can find Yamazaki and Hakushu 12 for around 10,000 JPY (if you are very lucky and outside the populous areas) but some of them in the store were older bottelings or special cask finishes.
@@carlmartinlinder Hi Martin, great video! I spent about 1 1/2 years snooping around local shops in the Osaka area and found a few good bottles but they were few and far between. One of my favorite local shops, Big, in Senri Chuo, just went out of business. Thanks again for the video.
WOW...those prices were awesome. Some great old blends for steals adn even some of the bourbon, dare I say, vastly below US secondary prices. That St Nick 15 year, for 900 is insanely cheap believe it or not!.
Apparently a friend told me there is almost no regulation on liquor sales in Japan. No 3 tier system. Bars are free to acquire bottles anywhere they want and sell them. Unlike the U.S. where liquor is more regulated than firearms 😂 Edit: Just realized I have the exact same shelves. Glad to know those glass panels can support that many bottles.
Interesting store find but not so interesting prices even by today’s standards. Example for a Hibiki Blossom 2021 on Amazan Japan is 41; they’re asking 69 a year ago?.. dōkana!
Very interesting idea for a store. Great that there liquor sales laws are such that a place like this can exist.
USA is so limited and uptight in that respect.
Absolutely fantastic, I can see why it's his favorite shop. Great old blends for good prices, like time capsules. Excellent!
A museum that sells everything
Great video! A Pawn Shop of whisky, what dreams are made of.
haha, Bottle Pawn!
A few gems in there i wouldn't have left without.
Yes
Wow some epic deals. Those old Royal salutes can be excellent and for $60 that's a steal. Fun video, thanks for sharing!
Everybody wants something from that shop
With any old ceramic bottle like the vintage Royal Salutes, you have to be careful that the liquid hasn’t evaporated.

Ah thanks Stefan. It looked so much like Lore with the 'Lore'

There must be more
Fun to watch!🥃😊
Wow what an utterly unique shop!😊🥃

Whisky time machine
Thank you, Phil.
That was a neat video. The 19 year old Springbank near the end looked interesting!
And beyond reach.
Wow I would leave this store completely broke. Favorite liquor store so far.
It is a fascinating one.

Everyone is jealous about this store.
Martin, am headed to Osaka in October, any store(s) you recommend to shop at ? Cheers, thanks Whisky Mystery for posting your context. Good fun
that eagle rare 15 year 107 proof 🤯

@@WhiskyMystery You're most welcome! The prices are often high, but one can occasionally spot a good deal or two.

No regulation gets you this fantastic and interesting bottle shop
No Tier 3, that means you can purchase directly from the manufacture, skip the distributor!!!
Sounds civilized
Phil, I have that Laphroaig 1815. Let me know if you ever want a sample. I think it's a really good one
Thanks. I was just confused by the similarity to Lore packaging.
Ballantine 17 year old . very nice
Anyone have any idea what the Old Fitz next to the Laphroig 18 is?
Not me sorry
wow
Where in Japan do you know?
The address is in the video and the description

I wonder if prices will be up or down a year from now. Inflation vs recession
Literally could be ANYTHING in these bottles… buyer beware 😂
Probably less risk than buying at auction.
@@WhiskyMystery why..?
@@bradl2636 Because at the auction you can not inspect the bottles. You just look at photos
100 US for Blanton's gold is better than the US lol
Yes I thought that.
@@WhiskyMystery btw thank you again
Very cheap
Cheers
