    Dude, when you demoed the Sharp X68000 I was blown away-- the sound is amazingly nostalgic. Thanks so much for auditing them.

    Thanks so much for putting these guides out there. I've followed to enable ScummVM on MiSTer and bought an MT32pi after hearing your thoughts. Sounds great!

    For Parodius at the start game page Press F3 and change INTERNAL to MIDI - there you go all done

    If anyone wants a balanced soundfont, check out GeneralUser GS or Arachno Soundfont for a much higher quality collection of samples.

    Here a list of my fav soundfont
    Fatboy (Sam and max), Roland sc55 by emperor grieferus, arachno (very heavy) , generaluser (light and sound good in most game) , there is as well opl3 final soundfont that make everything sound like the Genesis.

    Just found your channel, and obviously subbed. As I have just received my Mister fpga, and all its needed add-ons including the mt32-pi. Unfortunately I had to go away the next day, so haven't had time to set it up. Back now so will be using your advice.

    Does the raspberry pi need to be setup on its own first or will it work with the mt32 right out of the box?

    If I recall correctly, the MT32-pi allows you to choose the Audiofabric soundfont.
    Do you know if there's a way to find the soundfont somewhere? A standard website, a GitHub or something like that?

    Hi, what exact settings are you using in the ScummVM Global Menu (Audio, Midi, MT32) to get the MT32-Pi working with ScummVM?!? If I am using MT-32 emulator as preferred device, I'll always get the following message after starting a game: "The selected audio device 'MT-32 emulator' cannot be used. See log file for more information. Attempting to fall back to the next available device..."
    Maybe you could help me out? :)
    By the way: very good stuff you're bringing up here!

    • @NewRetroAdventures
      @NewRetroAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah no problem. Leave the Preferred Device and Adlib on default. Under MT-32 Tab: Use First Available Device. You can also try, using Roland GS MT-32 Mapping on games that support it. Hope that helps.

      @@NewRetroAdventures Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work, as far as there are no swings in the sound display of the MT32-Pi. Any ideas? I am really clueless right now!

    • @NewRetroAdventures
      @NewRetroAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RippoRip The only other thing I can think of is on the MIDI tab ensure it's set to use first available device. If it's set to not use GM for instance it will fallback to software

    • @NewRetroAdventures
      @NewRetroAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Another thought I just had is to try different versions. For instance I’m not sure Amiga will output MIDI so just check you are using PC copies of the games.

    • @RippoRip

      @@NewRetroAdventures Thanks for your help, I managed to get it working well now! :) With Audio on default device, Midi on Use first device and MT32 on Midimeister, 95% of the games are working well with MT32 Support. Monkey Island 1 is only working if you are using the Floppy DOS Version, all other versions don't support MT32. Thanks again for your help!

    • @rubberduck4966
      @rubberduck4966 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As an amiga hat no synthesizer at all there is no way to build a generic amiga soundfont. Every game has its own samples with which the sound is created.

    Unless you play Space Quest III music than you don't do any justice to the MT-32. This I felt was outstanding when was released. And I had a LAPC1 in my PC basically the same thing. Have just ordered one as I feel I need to hear this again in my Life.

  • @MrFl0rp

    Silly question time. Does this do anything for the consoles/mame side of mister? I love some retro computers but consoles get most of my time

    • @NewRetroAdventures
      @NewRetroAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a silly question. But AFAIK it wouldn’t since they would need to support, at least, general MIDI. X68K or PC-98 is about as close a console experience you’ll find that supports it. Being Japanese they needed enhanced graphics for the character display. Consequently making them ideal for games as well. I’m the same though, mostly consoles… I enjoy getting things like this working though.

    just remember if yoiu are used to hearing stuff from a mono speaker note expect sounds to sound different in stereo and quadraphonic audio playback (where and where supported)
    though if i was going to hook up pc/pc based systems to av base rca connection only use rca or sp/dif digital as the preferred connection
    as you will introduce static white noise hum a grounded connection to an unearthed cob using conversion cables..
    if you want audio standards from the 50's to current day with hdmi in use you are likely going to need a proper ssd as the mount device and sound processor logic do this in a mono, stereo, 5.1-11.x way in terms of audio processing..
    I grew with RF console and 8bit computer systems..
    monochrome (orange/green screens have existed since the 70's)
    cga/ega was likely a 80's by 91-93 this was replaced with vga and windows 3.1 and 3.11
    the last OS to support composite was win 98se come time for xp in some parts of the world composite and s-video was not supported 50Hz territories..
    it is nice that you can connect midi pi to the system however Iong term feasibility this will need to be integrated on the hdmi board
    If I was going to design a mister for x86 platform, 686 processors would likely be the choice because this brings you upto xp level of windows OS, otherwise you would be pre USB win 95

    I've had one of these on my mind for about a year. The problem is not the mt32-pi unit. Its the damned PI. These things are hard to get and waaaay to expensive. So I am going to get one, but it wont be before the cost goes down.

    • @NewRetroAdventures

    I cant see its really worth it for the amount of games that have midi support tbh. I have bought the mt32 Pi but 16 odd games on Amiga is disappointing. Theres quite a few more for DOS, but is the juice worth the squeeze?

  • @JustinEmlay
    @JustinEmlay 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    MT-32 ROMs are now Public Domain. So the $350 for an ancient MT-32 is kind of a bogus PoV. There are multiple solutions for using the ROMs with free software these days. This is strictly if you want it with the MiSTer.

    • @JustinEmlay
      @JustinEmlay 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IMO this needing a full blown Pi is kind of nuts. Talk about overkill! It would be so much better having the ROMs built into the cores.
