I've noticed ever since I discovered your channel that your ability to capture the cars engine tone so well in combination with the clarity of your voice while doing that is EXTREMELY impressive. Your setup is top notch. Keep on chugging in 2020!
We appreciate that! From our early days we decided to put an emphasis on audio quality, especially when it came to the exhaust/speech audio mix. Glad it's doing it's job well!! :D
I absolutely loved your review of this R8 Plus. At times you made me feel like I was sitting in the passenger seat. By the way, I’ve raced formula cars professionally since 1972. I went to England for three years to race. Let me tell you, race car drivers make horrible Passengers. You made feel right at home. I loved it. I watched your video to learn more about the R8 and you certainly did that for me. Great Video. Thank you, Ted

50:50 F:R weight distribution isn’t ideal...F1 cars are not 50:50. You want more weight over the rear, especially if the car is RWD. 50:50 cars will spin much quicker and its harder to catch when they do. Rear biased weight also works better when steering with the throttle mid corner, ie 911’s modicum of “never lift” , as doing so throws weight forward lightening the rear and causing that pendulum rear end slide. The modicum should be adjusted to “dont lift all the way” because in a 911 and a R8 you can make the car turn in sharper mid corner by delicately letting off the throttle just a hair. Its awesome when you get used to it. Great vid by the way.
Vancouver Representtt. Just about to get my own so researching on everything and fixating on making it perfect haha! Got a baby AUDI 2008 A5 Coupe I play around with sometimes too when feeling nostalgic.
No way! Gated manual all the way. I hate to say it but I'd definitely take a first gen with the V10 and the 6-speed manual. Speed isn't everything. That being said, I'd much rather have a 2nd gen if it also came with a 6-speed as it is the much better car in every other way. So I'm torn!
Great audio quality. I had opportunity to drive first gen r8 with v10 pre facelift and v8 dsg facelift and lamborghini gallardo, r8 is much better in terms of daily usage. I currently own poor mans r8 audi tt 3.2 r32 :) sound of n/a is epic.
"Perfect" 50:50 weight distribution is a gimmick used by certain manufacturers use to sell cars. Nothing more. For a mid-engined car, more rear bias just means more traction from to the driven wheels at the expense of a lighter front end which means engineers will have to do more with the suspension and tires to get the handling balanced and to quell understeer (larger rear tires vs front; softer front suspension etc.) . Lift-off oversteer will also be more severe e.g the 911. Lookup the production cars with the fastest lap times at any track, then see what their weight distributions are. I bet none are 50:50.
40/60 F/R weight distribution is ideal for rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive sports- or super-cars. That's why the Corvette went mid-engine in the C8, to achieve the magical weight distribution ratio and continue improving the platform. The C7 Corvette had a perfect 50/50 F/R weight distribution which was great until they started producing a metric shite ton of power, which caused traction problems. Here's a couple articles about the topic concerning the C7 to C8 which is an ideal platform to study this issue since it went from front- to mid-engine for this very reason: www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a28433801/c8-corvette-mid-engine-engineering-design-interview/ gmauthority.com/blog/2019/10/2020-corvette-gets-40-60-front-rear-weight-distribution-heres-what-it-means/
