      Sorry for the delay replying. Yes she had fun doing that! Glad you like the videos. The TBM series is the most comprehensive I’ve done, easy to make content for such a nice aircraft.

    Can you make a video on just the TBM 900's autopilot?

    Hi, thank you so much for the series on the TBM900. This, by far, is the best ever prop aircraft for xp11. I know this video is old, but I still watching the series repeatedly and pick something up every time, since I have only recently purchased the TBM.
    I have a question, in one of the TBM videos you state you made some changes to the G1000 database which now shows the airways within the UK.
    I have only found out how to include the Control zones around airfields and restricted areas, etc.
    How do you change the database to show the UK airway system please.
    Keep up the great work.
    Willie

      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Willie, thanks for the nice feedback and sorry for the delayed response. Hope you're enjoying the TBM experience, it's one of the all time great sim aircraft and I've got great affection for it, especially as it gave me something useful to do during the first UK Coronavirus lockdown. The issue is the UK airways are largely Class A, and the stock LR G1000 doesn't show that as the US use of Class A is quiet different. I opened the airspace file and simply changed any Class A airspace to Class B airspace so that it shows up. AC A replaced with AC B if I remember correctly.

    How did you get the ATC coverage map on the maps on the MFD?

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Replied on the HotStart Discord, but for anybody else wondering you can find a thread here discussing how to add airspace data: forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/140162-airspace-data-for-new-g1000/ - The UK data comes from asselect.uk/ and you need to edit the file with a text editor to change all class A airspace to class B as X-Plane doesn't seem to depict class A.

    Running the timer for 45 seconds those two times - was that your decision or is that the procedure? In a faster aircraft you'd have flown outside the big blue circle, surely.
    I'm friends with a fair few Dundee City councillors - will see what they can do about the trees at the threshold at 35:15!

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I hope the video coming on Friday has all the detail you’re looking for! The blue circle is the ATZ, not the protected circling area but you are correct, faster would be a problem. I used 45 seconds starting before the turn to make the 45-45-45 concept work. On the Airbus we use 30 seconds after wings level on the initial turn, and 30 seconds downwind at 1000ft, or 45secs at 1500ft. In a small aircraft, you can really just eyeball it, but I wanted to show an easily repeatable method in the sim. I’ve removed the trees at some airfields, but Dundee isn’t so bad. Geneva had a huge pylon on the approach, where the OSM data showed a power line, of course in reality it was underground!

  • @John-by6jw
    @John-by6jw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for this series, I'm loving it, and the TBM. Question: what makes a circling approach more difficult/dangerous than a visual approach? ATC seems to hand out visuals all the time (weather permitting)

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John, glad you’re enjoying the series. The question about Circling is answered in some depth in the “Extras 3” video, but circling is normally done in poorer weather conditions with a very limited safe manoeuvring area. With larger aircraft your ability to look back over your shoulder is very much reduced and it can be a very challenging procedure.

  • @Warka400
    @Warka400 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s hard to get behind the UK airspace system. So Dundee is surrounded by uncontrolled airspace, but you need approach control and tower?!. Does he give instructions and clearances (like in controlled airspace). Would he (or she) provide separation to known traffic (or information only), would he sequence you with headings or speeds? ATC and uncontrolled airspace, thats a strange combination. Have you found similar constellations in other countries? Love your videos, Karsten aka Red Robin from Germany.

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Karsten, Red Robin Yum! - Yes the UK system is a bit strange. For normal instrument approaches in the UK you need an approach controller. It doesn't need to be radar, procedural is OK, but it does need to be controlled. At least, that's how it was a while ago. They could give you vectors, but I think SERA may change that so ATC=Controlled Airspace. I'd need to do a bit of reading to catch up! The UK would really benefit from adopting Class E airspace at low level, but there's no funding for the required radar units and our GA fleet historically has been very suspicious of more controlled airspace. The whole thing is a terrible mess really.

    What a nice video tutorial again ! Rather than being a pilot, you should have worked as a teacher ! The ATC is so cute : a future pilot for sure ! As a VFR pilot (but only 15 hours a year because it is a little expensive...), I always want to stay in contact, as possible, with a flight information service, even in E airspace inside which I fly most of the time (in west direction of my airfield, because towards east, this is the very very very dangerous "A class" of Paris !!).
    Cheers,
    Daniel.

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Daniel, yes the system in France seems a lot more useful for general aviation. A while ago I was considering flying to LFPL in a beautiful DR400 Régent that our club has, a family trip to Paris and Disney, but couldn’t work out the Paris airspace! The drive was a lot less fun.

      @@ReflectedRealitySimulationsCouldn't work out really ? Actually, the location of Lognes makes it probably one of the most complex integration in Paris area. May I suggest you another destination for a family trip for better days ? The château de Versailles and its beautiful park. Then, you can choose LFPN (Toussus) or LFPZ (Saint-Cyr : you will then fly over the Grand Canal, but be aware to avoid flying over "la lanterne", the president's residency !

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Daniel, I will keep Toussus in mind. I think a lot of complexity involved traveloing in Paris after flying there - in that occasion the car was easier! Anyway, I’m just looking forward to doing any sort of flying now - it’s been too long.

    Really good video....question, how to activate the AoA or Alpha Indicator on top of the dashboard, I raise the flap window but don't get any green, yellow or red angle of attack indication?

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Stephen, Sorry for the delay replying. The issue is probably Vulkan graphics - at the moment I don't think the TBM AoA gauge works with Vulkan. I know the developer was planning to work on that when time permitted and the beta version of X-Plane made it to release.

    Amazing video as usual. Thank you so much for your time and effort. Could you please help me with how to use the map (little nav map)/charts on the "ipad"? looks very very intuitive and helpful. :)

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So the iPad works with Avitab which can load georeferenced images to use as a moving map. The application “LittleNavMap” is a separate flight planning application and will directly export a map for use with Avitab - it produces the georeference automatically. Hope that makes sense.

    Kind Regards

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the nice comment. You can download airspace files in OpenAir format and store them in the Custom Data\airspaces directory. For the U.K. the data can be downloaded from asselect.uk - the only issue is the Laminar G1000 does not show class A airspace and the U.K. has lots of low level class A. I can’t remember the exact line in the downloads file, but it’s possible to do a search and replace to change any class A to class B in order to show in on the G1000. Hope that helps.

    I have done this with you now twice and I am having a really hard time with the 45° for 45 seconds bit. I just dont seem to track it right. I dont know if it's my bank angle or what but I ended up over the runway on attempt 1 and then left of 27 on attempt 2. Are you running xplane Vulcan beta?

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not on the beta, just plan 11.41. Are you using the distance ring on the MFD to make sure you are at least 0.75nm cross track? Check your speed is 90 knots, if the speed increases on the base turn you’ll have problems.

    • @VikingsFan27
      @VikingsFan27 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ReflectedRealitySimulations So, that has been a little bit of a issue. I would say my speed will fluctuate +/-5kts. My throttle sensitivity is touchy when trying to get a precise speed. Then on a turn it will over fluctuate becasue of my trying to compensate. So withing 5kts I would say is where I am at. I have the ring set right on the map. I will fly it again tomorrow and try to keep my speed tighter. I will try to change the curve in the settings to tighten it up a little bit too. I bought the Honeycomb yoke when it first came available and love it. I have been holding out for the Honeycomb throttle quadrant. I am currently using my logitech x56 throttle and it's not great for this type of flying. Thanks for the help. I'll see what tomorrow brings.

    • @ReflectedRealitySimulations
      @ReflectedRealitySimulations  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No problem, I have a very sensitive throttle too, especially at lower power settings. The video next week shows a visual circuit that is a bit less sensitive on speed so hopefully that will be a bit better. The close in procedures are tricky in real life too!
