Some of the charts for zones are now showing my area of PA ( SE) as zone 7. We have always been in zone 6 since I was a tad. Anyone up here in PA looking for a really good peach tree, get the Contender from a good nursery. Mine started producing young, and it's loaded every year since. I don't spray, only lightly fertilize once a year. They are gorgeous peaches.
The Woolly bear caterpillars are out and about and completely black this year. The old timers are saying the wildlife behavior is saying it's going to be a hard winter. West central mountains in New Mexico.

When my children were young we had lots sweet corn and it was horrible pressure canned. So I water bath canned my corn with a salt sugar mixture instead of just salt for 3 hours and it was fantastic. When I started canning water bath canning for vegetable for 3 hours was what ball said, however it changed to pressure canning shortly after. The only vegetables that I water bath canned was the corn and only because it was so horrible. My husband now is allergic to corn so I no longer can corn. My kids were outside all the time and when they were thirsty I would say there is water in the faucet outside. My dad used a razor strap. We were not Beaten and my dad always said you only whip a child on his bottom. We were rarely whipped. ❤️🙏
My grandparents on both sides canned meat, pressure cookers were not available for your average home use, and those that were available were not safe and tended to explode. Along with the Amish, people overseas still water bath everything. It's still a personal choice, and I wouldn't recommend any method you're not comfortable using. Another note, they had cellars to store their food, where as here in Florida, we don't have that. I also cook for several days at a time. it's too hot to stand over the stove all the time. I consider leftovers "fast food". For discipline my Grandma called it a flyflap, and she could make it appear out of thin air! 🤣 My Dad used a belt, but it was a rare occasion, and no we were not beat. With canning, understanding bacteria & how it grows. What kills the spores & neutralizes the toxin. They didn't understand that back in the day. Remember before jumping on a canning band wagon, you do you. 😊

We all had multiple fruit trees....There were alot of kids, and the rule was the same for all of us. Get out and play and we'll see you at dinner time. Afternoon snack? Whatever was growing. Wild berries were available late spring to early fall. Cherries were ripe in the summer. Grapes, apples and pears late Summer and Fall.....The only reason we could come back before dinner is if we brought a bucket of something for Mom to make a pie. LOL

I have 3 Stark, Chester blackberries I planted last spring. So far, with 50% pink leftover after 2 weeks, I have gotten 6# so far in the freezer
