Anatoly Vedernikov. One of the best Partita I have ever heard!! He studied with Richter in Moscow under same teacher, but while Richter became internationally famous, he was not allowed to travel outside the country. I think Vedemikov plays even better than Richer. He did not have much luck but you can hear the dignity of the best of the best artist.
Das Klavierspiel "alter Schule" ist sehr beeindruckend. Vedernikov spielt mit rhythmischer Strenge und absoluter Klarheit der polyphonen Strukturen, das wirkt extrem konzentriert. Ich glaube, S. Richter hat so eine Aufnahme nicht hinbekommen.
It's all a matter of interpretation since Bach's tempos are not certain. As I mature I find myself losing fondness for the excessively fast. I swear some "famous" pianists have turned pieces into blurs of indistinguishable sound. I take it a tad slower than this because the ever-shifting quirky tonality should be front and center.
