The sheep are out! The cows are out! Repeat.😂🤣
We just lost a momma sheep yesterday and she left us with two day old twin lambs. Bottle feeding isn’t too bad, but hearing them cry trying to find momma is the worst part ❤
We lost a twin mama, the day after giving birth which was Christmas day(years ago)
We kept the girl to replace mom and ate the boy for Easter 😁
😢
Love Jonah’s hair
I suggest if you lost a whether that you do a collection of freshly picked stool samples and either put it under the microscope or pay the vet clinic to do so - you need to know what is happening and get ahead of this before you loose 1/2 your flock - because sheep are a flight animal they don't show you that they are sick they just "lie down and die"
may I also suggest that you get your vet out to do some blood tests - including a standard mineral blood test that even conventional farmers are starting to do each year - I know you give free choice minerals but if there is something lacking you know now - optimun minerals give better overall health and is important for fertility of both ram and ewe
This is not the first time this has happened. Last time their entire sheep herd died a long horrible death and they refused to get a vet out. These people need to reduce their animals stock to what they know and what they can actually handle. I used to love this channel but the amount of unnecessary death and suffering became too much for me. They are always in over their heads and the animals suffer for it. Anyone with real animal husbandry skills sees this channel for what it is, a disgrace. I'm sorry, but it's the truth.
@@trinity885 yes they did loose an entire flock - BUT they had only had that flock for 2 weeks so that flock was not the fault of the Rhodes Family it was the people they purchased them from - if you purchase organic or non orginic sheep and they die within the first few weeks the seller is at fault - a full refund would be expected
@@user-ni8fm1mq3k That is not what happened and you should go watch the videos to see. Those sheep died one by one and they had plenty of time to get the vet out. I was subbed at the time and watched it unfold. BTW, I have ample farm and animal husbandry experience to know that these people take far too many chances at the animals expense. I love these people and their kids but I am not helping them by making excuses for their shotty, frenzied methods which kill animals on a regular basis. I have NEVER seen so much death as on this channel. Much of it could be avoided. It is not right and I love the animals enough to object. Most of the subscribers I feel have no idea what a real farm is like, but I do. And this is not it.
Sweet Lily. Such a hard little worker. Seems like she can do anything. A very precious little girl or maybe I should say young lady! I love watching her!
All i ever remember when watching you is the animals always getting out 😂
Justin, I hope you have a plot plan where you indicate all the culverts, buried power and buried water lines. Otherwise they will be discovered when someone accidentally cuts through something. Drone shots and measurements from something permanent, like a building, should simplify the job. With their filming and computer skills, some of the kids might be able to take it on.
@@AKM8829😂
Haven’t been able to watch for a few days, missed you, noticed the boys hair cuts, oh my goodness, the all look so much older. Did not recognize them without the double take. 👍they all are so handsome including little Henry. Miss Lily such a mature girl, love her to death, so much knowledge she holds. Enjoy watching them all. Keep up the great vlogs❤️
It may be a good idea to paint your T posts holding the water spigots and electrical shut off a different color like hunter orange for quick locating identification and also to prevent running over them with vehicles. Too easy to forget or not see a green T post when backing up with a tractor or other farm vehicle. Just a suggestion.
That's a really good idea.
It's a great suggestion!
It’s so wonderful to see all these boys/young men learning as well as using all the machines. Kids learn best by doing & Justin you certainly help teach them well! It’s great to see boys/young men being boys as well as being super productive.👍🏻😃
I’m thinking you should build permanent fencing with gates so it would be easier to transfer the animals. I feel most of your day is spent picking up fences and chasing animals that have escaped. That way, you guys could do more maintenance or play.
Sorry about the loss of the lamb. I hope all the animals stay healthy.
Yeah would be a good investment
Justin removed all the fencing so that he can change the size of the paddock needed for the animals with the netting. Paddock size is determined by pasture growth, time of year etc. Permanent fencing doesn't work with the type of rotational grazing that he practices.
Don't you see, they do this to keep entertained. If not they would be bored having to just do normal work. Maybe it's so they have constant material for the internet.
It's because he does rotational grazing. It definitely has its value but it's a lot of work. I prefer to have permanent fences and just move every so often but that's just me
Thank you so much for sharing. Sorry for your loss! Great content! I love yall!
Yeah ya'll, I'm new to the channel and just trying to get more involved with the homesteading community. I'm in central Arkansas and bought some land 2 years ago. I'm still learning the TH-cam world of homesteading and hoping to gain a following, I wasn't able to make it to the expo but plan on attending upcoming events around the area. It's great to meet like minded people, keep up the great work.
My favorite family! I look so forward to your videos, I hope I can move out of the city and have a farm someday!
Love your videos! You have been a great inspiration for starting my own homestead! I just processed 40 cornish yesterday! I ordered another 20 red rangers for meat and 15 black australopes and 15 americans as layers for next season! keep up the great work!
Man, you’re going to be swimming in eggs next year.
Be sure Jonah and the boys are doing maintenance on the equipment regularly. It's the life of the equipment.
Always follow up to make sure that maintenance is done correctly. A good manager always follows up on what is delegated. Compliment the job well done and give positive direction when something isn’t up to par.
I raised 2500 head of cattle. Treat the scours the very minute you notice it.
My aunt has a sheep farm special counsel. If that water ain’t clean enough for you to drink out of it then don’t give it to. That is what she says. You might want to look into a sample and sending it out.
Have you how anal they are about their water? Drinking and bathing.
I am happy Jonah is doing so well after all of his struggles to heal up! That is a great idea to bury hot fence wire with connectors every hundred feet or so!
Whew, had a hard time keeping up today! You are SO blessed to own not one, not two but THREE houses! Maybe someday a neighborhood of Rhodes families! 🥰
Justin you need to have the sheep’s poop analyzed by a vet.
He will never do it
Loving the Shaklee Basic. Excellent products!!!
Geesh, I think I need a nap now...all I did was trim the jasmine vine and put in new posts...but you guys really rocked it today...love the bibs girl...!
Good progress, even though it keeps you very busy! Thanks for sharing! Blessings to everyone 🤗💗🇨🇦
Good to see you healthier and the fam good, praying for you and yours and friends too. All good healings of body mind and soul for all. God does amazing things🙏
Rebekah, I am so glad you showed the onion holder from Dixondale. I'm going to have to order them. 😊
You guys are so awesome to watch😊I have learnt so much and love when new vlogs come out😍Watching all the way from New Zealand
Beyond the dynamic duo, it's now the magnificent seven. So enjoy watching the story of your homestead unfold.
Love the show cant start my day till i watch them kids of yours git it done
@Justin Rhodes ~ Regarding those onion nets you hang up in the pantry. An alternative to cutting off each onion, you could create a slit in net top to bottom of each onion part & pop it out. That way you could reuse the netting system. I did this using women's nylons I bought at the dollar store. Fantastic little hack for storing onions vertically (space saving), & perhaps a couple other items too. :)
On lily’s channel. I just wanted to say her riding has Improved so much. You definitely have some skills worth staying in horses young lady. Keep up the good work girly!! Such a good hard worker all your family ❤🐴🐎🏇
Lily has a channel?
She definitely has! I have two daughters in riding lessons (one only a few months younger than Lily). My older competed this summer in our 4-H County Horse Fair riding both English and Western.
Love Randolph.
That tree of hell was planted by my neighbor and I’m mad as hell about it. That and the spotted lantern flies LOVE it. Ugh 😩
Tree of heaven sucksssss. I live in Washington state so total opposite side of the U.S. from you guys and its all over my moms yard and been so hard to get dug out. I keep seeds for it though because in the next couple years we're going to be getting our own raw land and I'm going to grow some on purpose as a living wall around our property since it will grow without being watered at all. I've seen it grow in cracks under a porch before lol. Hopefully I'll like it more when it's more of a benefit than a nuisance. They're going to be on the outside of a fire break on the property so anything popping up near the originals will be mowed down regularly in maintenance of the break. We're bound to get a few popping up elsewhere on the property but that happens here no matter what.
On the sheep...are you checking FAMACHA and treating appropriately? It has been a tough year for worms in many regions. Also, consider coccidia if FAMACHA is good and you continue to see scours.
We recently lost 6 sheep. It broke my heart. The Johnson grass and pin oak combination. Johnson grass contains prussic acid when it is understress. Ours had gotten too long. The lambs were fine. They couldn't reach the pin oaks. Maybe, it wasn't Johnsongrass. I am overly cautious
You can never be too cautious when you are taking care of your animals, whether they be stock or pets.
Sometimes you have use pharmaceuticals and when you have the sheep issues you have, a round of dewormer is called for.
I would only any animal to a vet to be diagnosed. Not treated. All they want to do is give shots. God gave us ways to treat ourselves and our animals without big pharma witchcraft. Not to say that in a life threatening emergency ie: bleeding profusely or life and death situation where you would die without help.
Too bad about the sheep. I was glad to see Bell walking better. Nice that you got the water line and electric line under the access road. I'm glad the dead sheep wasn't Bell! I like the onion sock! Nice that you are extending your water and electric lines along the pastures. Thanks for this video Rhodes family!
My day is not complete if I don’t see a vlog from you, I feel as though I know you people, I’ve been watching your progress since mr brown was a little baby and I keep you all in my prayers 😊
I've stored onions like that. It Works😊👍
Happy Sunday 🌞
❤️🙏🙋🏼♀️🐈🐕
So sorry about your loss!!
Use twist ties or twine for the onion mesh to keep the onions apart and you don’t have to cut
the mesh and it can be reused next year
Or use some kind of clip that's safe for the onions in between if there's not enough space with just using twist ties. Or something else like that.
I was thinking something like a clothes pin. I think they might make plastic ones if they wanted something more sanitizable.
Hello from Rutherfordton, I’ve lost 2 sheep this year. I have since started giving them some grains mixed with garlic powder to help with parasites.
@04:46 You may want to think about getting a commercial type refrigerator, they are longer lasting & reliable ✊🏾 It would be a great investment!
Had a commercial sub-zero for years and loved it. However, make sure you can get service/repair on your farm. Found most won't travel to places outside of metro areas and ended up selling it.
That’s a good point about access to service repair@@teresagural6726
We've lost 2 young sheep in the past 3 months . . . Both strangled in the electric netting fence. We want the permaculture, mobile paddock model but the netting has not been good for us.
My grandmother taught me how to tie and stack Vidalia onions in pantyhose just the way you demonstrated! ❤️
Good morning and happy Sunday Rhodes family.🐝
Loved seeing Jonah riding his bike!
@JustinRhodes Afternoon from Sunny Western Australia. For your Onions use zip ties or twine to separate them instead of knotting the material that way you can re use the netting again and again.
Awesome beats🎉🎉🎉
Justin, We have been battling the same weed trees. What seems to be finally working is when my husband started pouring lots of vinegar at the base of the roots then cut them all down and the moment a new shoot pops up he cuts it down and pours more vinegar on it.
Explosive diarrhea in sheep/goats is usually indicative of worms. This would be unusual as you rotate your pastures so frequently, but not impossible. More likely he ate something that didn't agree with him. However, it would be prudent to worm your sheep. Ripe Papaya seeds are a very effective antiparasitic. About a tablespoon full each should be good. Just make sure they are organic papaya as the Hawaiian variety are GMO.
We worm sheep and goats once a month. Always.
Please share with Lilly that I’m probably her oldest fan on her channel. Maybe her oldest supporter of owning horses! (73)
Before she starts acquiring horses, she needs to ride a Tennessee Walking Horse, or any “gaited” horse. Much better for clients, trail riders!
Missouri Foxtrotter❤❤❤
SHAKLEE: do you still need a distributor??
Jonah and Josiah look like young men instead of little boys with their hair cut, handsome sons.
Jonah its so hood seeing you walk again.
Wow Jonah was doing great on the bike. I am glad he is on the mend.
Well done. Good job. I am so sorry about shep. Good luck
I'm so sorry..loss is never easy
When is too much, too much. You crop farm, chicken farm, pig farm, cow farm, ... But are you doing everything adequately? Mama seems exhausted. But I keep watching. Said with caring and worry.
I feel it has been a while since hearing "Beautiful One." Overalls are comfy!
One thing for sure, we get a good dose of ADHD! Like I need more. 🤪 Keep doing the things!
Rebecca, instead of tying knots use chip clips between the onions, then you can use the onion socks.
My granny kept her onions in panty hose that same way. I’ve always done the same. Potatoes too! ❤
15:00 you should really flip the cutoff switch so the lever is down when the power is off, that way the lever cant fall on its own and energize the fence when you dont want it to
Wise words
The Caddiewampuss hat always makes me chuckle ❤
Thanks for teaching me a new word. Never used in bucks,uk
@@Wornout1 LOL You're welcome
You can pull a t-post with either a jack or a long pry bar and a fulcrum.
Concerning ur onion netting - can’t you wire twist tie between the onions and as you use, fold/roll up netting as uts emptied? Then you can reuse the netting each year - save money.
For onions, get some old panty hose from your thrift store...it works the same to hang onions and costs alot less
So surprised to see The beautiful one helping on the farm with you...
Argh, something happened to lighters a couple decades ago. They simply aren't reliable! We have half a dozen so we can use the one that feels like working at the moment 🙄
build a concrete pad for the compost out back - a 6x10 pad would only be like 35 bags of concrete and you could break it up into quarters by putting 2x4 in the middle - then you could do another one later on - it may not be totally necessary but would make management with machine a bit easier - it would end up giving you more space - you may be able to just make 3 compost corrals with logs then you could make them bigger and save on costs but it would get them out of the way and you could rotate them every 2-3 mos
We keep all our camping gear in totes. Definitely helps with the packing-not everything goes on every camping trip.
You can do the same thing with pantyhose with the onions… I have been using this method for years. 😊
I have those trees all over my property. I cut a bunch of them down, cut them into rounds and stacked them up to cure as firewood. Then tilled the soil and dug up the roots. After about three months they started popping up again and I realized that the stack of firewood that was supposed to be drying had sunk roots into the ground and started spreading again that fast. Definitely the tree of hell!
Quote of the day: ..don't messure everything to do, just keep busy..
My Gran use to do the onion thing with her spent pantihose if they run a ladder, she would clean them and save them for onion season.
The boys look so good with their short summer haircuts.
i always say you can NEVER HAVE TO MANY REFRIGARATORS stock up for the winter,so them VITTLES KEEP COMEING...
If you are grazing that low you are gonna get worms.
Phew! Justin says he's not overwhelmed but I sure am! That was a lot to keep up with and I'm sure I missed a lot. Glad that wasn't Belle.
For that onion holder, I bet you could cut a slit in the pocket to remove the onion rather than cutting the section completely off. Then you can reuse it next year!
I like that onion idea nice
Tree Hay or Tree Fodder . Just found something like that worth researching. In deed.
Sorry to see you've been visited by the "Tree of Heaven". I had a patch start in the 8" between my deck steps and my garage foundation... the most annoying plant I've had in a long time. When you cut it, it stinks up the entire nearby area and then spreads from the nearby roots. I've tried cutting and concentrated vinegar without positive results. While I'm not a fan of glyphosate, it's looking like a reasonable solution to eradicating this pestiferous plant.
Good job
Love the boys haircuts!!!
សួស្ដីខ្ញុំមកពីប្រទេសកម្ពុជា❤🇰🇭
Check for baby critters in brush piles!
By starting at one side and letting it burn its way across slowly it triggers them to run away.
I make onion nets with the legs from old pantyhose. At least they are good for something! Hahaha!
I like most of the video but without the use of cuttting and quick changes to dialog i liken this to ADHD and really have problems following.
❤
❤👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼🙂
You were who taught me 1% over 100 days is 100% improvement. Bit by bit. You got this!
Justin, for invasive trees there’s a simple way to kill the whole tree and the roots. Pack salt around the bottom of the trunk two or 3 inches deep at the base of the tree water it or leave it and let the rain do it. Rev. Paul Eustis Florida.
Will that work on privet? Omgosh! It keeps coming back, all 5 of them
@heatherk8931 Generally salt packing works on all plants.
It used to be a method of warfare to starve out enemies, salting their fields.
❤❤
what store did you get the onion net from? That's awesome !
Kids are hard workers!
Buy a scratch brush for the cows they may leave your bushes alone. Good day good jobs done!
Yes, cog hill farm got two giant brushes for $100 each. They were used street sweeper brushes and they look great.
Please be very careful with tools and machines and keep safety foremost in mind with the children
We were over 100 degrees yesterday 50 miles east of Charlotte and we have HUMIDITY!!!
I'd paint the t-post red or yellow so you don't run or back over it by accident.
