Indgame mirrors where purposely build to fake reflections, so a dev had to actively place a "camera" facing away from the mirror and then projecting the captured image from the camera onto the surface of the mirror. Ray Tracing doesn't depend on those tricks, because it calculates the light based on the physical behavior of surfaces. So every object that was made with a shiny surface automatically creates accurate reflections without the need of anyone touching any asset again. This is also the reason why now some objects look off or why, for example, the car mirrors still don't reflect anything. Those assets weren't made with rt in mind and didn't get the reflective property. To simply the process, Rockstar just flipped the switch to active rt and didn't touch any object in the game. If you want create rt reflections with the old method you would have to place many "cameras" on every reflecting object and then project that image on said object. Now image that for a city scene with reflecting buildings, wet roads and cars. That would be even more demanding then rt.
@@rolexian "you would have to place many cameras on every reflective object" These would use the render textures, which aren't the only way to create reflections in a game. They won't work for every type of reflection you want to make. Don't forget that there also real time cubemap reflections for these type of surfaces like car reflections, which they are sometimes better than to use render textures. For wet roads you can use the screen space reflection.

All these spoiled ppl in the comments fussing over not having 60fps with the highest detailed settings... Remember when y'all are playing on the PS4/XBone & your eyes are doing just fine with 30fps?
Can't believe they went through the trouble of adding RT reflections to almost every possible surface but decided to skip the car mirrors, which would have been the most beneficial to actual gameplay.
It's not like they have to touch every object to enable rt reflections. Those reflections appear because of physicaly based rendering. So to over simplify the process they just flipped the switch and activated ray tracing without touching any asset in the game. That's the reason why a lot of assets look to shiny now. They were created without rt in mind. And because the didn't optimized anything, car mirrors still don't have the surface property to actually reflect anything.
Locked to 30fps on New-gen..... And Rockstar continues to ignore the PC version, no HSW, no RT, no starter missions, etc... And PCs can have much much more powerful hardware.
Many of you commenting need to understand that Ray Tracing is not like Path Tracing so it will never look %100 photo-realistic. In context to GTA 5: Rockstar may have added some form of software RT to the older Engine that is able to utilize AMDs new architecture in a more native fashion. This would explain why its not available on Winbdow's because NVIDIA's shader-core technology alone simply isn't fast enough to handle software RT (this is proven with DXR) and hardware RT is out of the question because it would require the game to be re-developed in a newer DirectX 12 Engine. The only differences between software and hardware RT is the WAY its processed (allocated cores vs dedicated cores). RTX cards are essentially GTX cards with dedicated cores to compensate the for main silicons shader-cores being primitive with advanced low-level APIs. (DirectX 12, Vulkan, Metal). Unless, Rockstar releases a patch for software RT exclusively to AMD RDNA or newer cards then it will never see the light of day for Windows because NVIDIA would get butt hurt even though they have been known to add certain "NVIDIA only" features to games in the past. This is why RDNA is a big deal in general because its keep everything within the same silicon, thus making its easier on developers because it does not require nearly as much driver overhead when and if new features are added to the API. NVIDIA didn't do a damn thing the developers asked for but rather added even more driver overhead, defeating the purpose of DirectX 12 - to eliminate the need for complex drivers. Dont blame Rockstar. Blame NVIDIA and Microsoft for milking old technology and old Engines for the sake of grandpa companies still programming for CUDA.
Looks nice and cool to drive though the city for the first time. The same game feels a bit different, but actually playing 30 FPS on 4k TV is not worth it. Maybe next gen consoles will handle both 60 fps and quality ray tracing.

I hope when the next gta releases for the 10th time it will have reflections in a car mirror
Why on earth is Rockstar not updating the PC version with these features?
they didn't find a way to milk money from it for pc, yet.
They want you to make your own RT mod, so after that Take Two could easily sue you
trash 🗑️ company
@@NikitaFlex0 🧐
Potato car mirrors are still a thing though
Not on PC?
Adds rtx, still doesn't have functional rear view mirrors
hope one day one guy makes a realism pack on torrent because putting mods together is worse than a burst appendix
Bro this music is fire🔥🔥
makes a world of difference
For people who don't know turn on Fidelity mode to turn on Ray Tracing
Not worth it if you run the game on 30FPS
people are going crazy with the portal rtx mod lol
0:17 rtx ON , car mirror: i don't think so
Shame they are not releasing this and other E&E on PC...
Take2 ist ein richtiger Saftladen
finally i had been waiting for this. Reflections in GTA V was always the thing that was extremely off.
I would actually drive in first person if i could use my mirrors lmao
it's 2022 and rearview mirror is still reflecting incorrectly
Is it "really" ray tracing though? it just really feels like every reflectable works like the ingame mirrors
That would be even more demanding then rt.
that's what ray tracing is its better lighting and shadows and reflections
@@Masonishere2828 I know that gta5 uses rt for shadows. But do they actually also use it for lighting?
@@rolexian Yea i guess your right, you know your stuff :D
@@rolexian "you would have to place many cameras on every reflective object" These would use the render textures, which aren't the only way to create reflections in a game. They won't work for every type of reflection you want to make. Don't forget that there also real time cubemap reflections for these type of surfaces like car reflections, which they are sometimes better than to use render textures. For wet roads you can use the screen space reflection.
9 years later rockstar is still polishing the same turd lol
Make it almost 10
Oh wow, I can see, when we play GTA 5 and GTA Online in PS5 console using Performance Ray Tracing Mode, everything at any side reflects on any glass windows, which makes the game version better thanks to the latest patch by Rockstar Games.
👇
my dumbass ACTUALLY THOUGHT the mirrors would work lmao
Will this update come to PC too?
Love the people 2 years ago spouting off how ray tracing is a gimmick. No, it's going to revolutionize gaming, and will allow us to make even old games look really good.
Kinda sucks that the xss doesn’t get this but understandable due to limitations
god thank you now we can just wait 10 years more to GTA 6 got released :D
Why they never add anything to pc?
Cool. But I must say, I had a ps4 since the year it came out, I finally just got a ps5 a couple of weeks ago, I feel this is the smallest upgrade in gaming I’ve seen yet. Ps1-2 much different, 2-3 also much different, 3-4 much different, 4-5 just seems to be a very small upgrade!
Play your games at 60fps!
After update and put the game in fidelity My screen flickering white every 30sec thats weird xbox series X
Where i change it? Thnks
walking backwards to get rid that extra pound
p.s. ray tracing's the future
All these spoiled ppl in the comments fussing over not having 60fps with the highest detailed settings... Remember when y'all are playing on the PS4/XBone & your eyes are doing just fine with 30fps?
Whole car is literally reflective... Except the mirrors. Lol
The fact that cat mirrors still don't have proper reflections drives me insane...
now my 2013 self have a reason to paint my cars chrome 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Locked to 30fps on New-gen..... And Rockstar continues to ignore the PC version, no HSW, no RT, no starter missions, etc... And PCs can have much much more powerful hardware.
I have been doing this for years with mods....glad to see Rocktard at the cutting edge.
Rockstar is the Apple of video games honestly (They became the one that they used to make fun of)
Many of you commenting need to understand that Ray Tracing is not like Path Tracing so it will never look %100 photo-realistic.
Finally we get it looks nice
Apparently Raytracing isn't even available on the PC version... What the fuck...
omg they better bring this to pc.
I can't believe this was not released with the game day 1
These Mirrors Looked Stained Glass
0:13 HAHAHAH RTX, BUT NO MIRROR
Does it cost 50 FPS like in the new witcher update ? 🤣
I NEED THAT FULL SONG ASAP !!!!
Chrome paint reflects just like a mirror should, and yet…
Is pc have it already? Without any mod
Try that again but in english

Looks nice and cool to drive though the city for the first time. The same game feels a bit different, but actually playing 30 FPS on 4k TV is not worth it.
Maybe next gen consoles will handle both 60 fps and quality ray tracing.
It is 60fps?
@@tylermoye593 with performance or performance+RT mode, yes , 60 FPS
Quality RT 30 fps
So what your saying is i can differentiate between a glassless frame and a window pane
