    That is misleading. Horsepower ratings for electric motors are different because they have lots of torque even at zero RPM. The gas-engine is 88 HP, and the rest comes from the electric motor, but if you look at the torque figures for the car, it is more comparible with a regular car. That is the beauty of the hybrid system.

    The thing is that because the Prius gets even the slightest amount more in miles per gallon, various governments have provided incentives to buy one over the Honda Insight. In the northeastern US, there is an electronic toll system known as EZ-Pass for which Prius owners are eligible for a 10% discount. In the U.K., trims of both vehicles are exempt from U.K. Road Tax, although this applies to more Prius models.

    From what I can tell... The Prius is a love it, hate it car. Those who have it, never have to worry about the price of gas again. They can just smile when they go to fill ($25) it up. They also know about the features that it has, that nobody ever talks about. It's got features that not even the best Acura's (Honda) have. I should know because I own a 2006 RL and the Prius has features that it doesn't have. Those who hate it, hate it because everyone loves it, and they that. 15k sold every month

  • @ripper3200

    This Insight wasn't out when my wife got her 2007 Prius.
    I like Honda, I own a 2006 RL and have owned 3 TL's, but after driving her Prius, I was shocked to see all the features they put in it. It has everything and the new one has even more.
    As for the mileage, over the last 6,000 miles, she got 54.7 mpg. She doesn't even try, because she doesn't care about mpg's. The part that makes since to her is spending only $20 to drive 500 miles. If she had the new one, she would get around 60mpg

  • @ripper3200

    Although a little outdated on the Prius, good video. The numbers on the new Prius aren't THAT different.
    I personally got the Insight. Although the Prius has more space, I really didn't need it. When we're travelling with dogs and a baby I opt for taking the SUV.
    And as far as MPG goes, I consistently get between 45-51 mpg on the Insight. Buying the Prius over the insight solely based on a little better mpg makes literally no sense.

  • @xHUNxDraco3D

    Sorry for my english :P
    Im from Hungary here the Polo Blue is 4,5M HUF,the Insight dont have price now but will be ~4,5-5M HUF(Civic IMA is 5,5m HUF so 4,5-5 is correct)so no not cost less,but smaller ;)But both car better than others,i dont say Polo is not good,just say if a diesel need less fuel(if only 10-15%),and less CO2,thats not = better for eco.

    I did a test drive last week in both cars ... despite this video gives most credits to the Insight, it (purposely or by accident) forgets one thing: on the highway (120 km/hr), driving an Insight makes very much noise, comparing a reasonable quiet Prius. If you drive mainly inside towns and want to save money, buy an Insight, otherwise go for the Prius. Also the Prius uses much better quality materials.

    EPA, fueleconomy(dot)gov
    New MPG (tests are more realistic)
    City/Hwy/Combined
    Prius 2010 - 51/48/50
    Prius 2004 - 48/45/46
    Insight 2010 - 40/43/41
    Jetta Tdi 2009 - 29/40/33
    The EPA ratings are a useful tool for comparing the fuel economies of different vehicles but may not accurately predict the average MPG you will get.
    When you own one of these cars, you no longer care how much gas is.

    @hangguy209 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    well, you do know that people are a bit picky on the prices these days right? all they care about is the lowest price they can get it out the door with first. although the Insight doesn't have a good resale value but that's not a big of a deal, because the car is not that expensive in the first place just like what you said " you get what you pay for ". both Honda and Toyota make good reliable and affordable cars don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one is better than the other, i like them both.

    I could see a radar that gives the driver a visual warning that they are following too closely, but breaking for you is a little unnerving.. I get that lots of manufacturers are implementing this.. that doesn't make it a brilliant idea.. It's an added cost to the car for a feature that trains people to drive inefficiently which is the exact opposite of the intent of the car. Honda's new insight's console actually trains you to be a more efficient driver, It's too bad Toyota doesn't get it.

    The EPA needs to retest the Insight. It is too underrated. I know that these magazine testers drive the cars hard, and yet they still got 8.5 MPG more than EPA. So has everyone else. EPA also needs to give the current 2010 Insight owners new window stickers, so that when they sell the car they can get more because of the drastic MPG difference.

    I am all for 100% electric cars/trucks as they make perfect sense. But from a mechanics stand point.. hybrids are pointless.
    Heck you can buy a regular car with a internal combustion engine that will get almost the same mileage with none of the draw backs.
    I keep my cars long term and dealing with repair cost for batteries and electic/combustion motors will quickly add up to more than the value of the car itself.

    Um crash prediction technology is being put in to about half of new models as we speak. Over 60% of the automotive companies plan to have it in all of their vehicles within the coming years. Along with blind spot cameras, lane departure warning/correction systems, etc. Within 20 years, the cars we've already developed to drive themselves will be mainstreamed into society through these companies.

    I knew the Cavalier was a POS, but some people feel having the cheapest POS on the road trumps the need to have a Prius. I went that route with my first car, which was a Cavalier. Now mind you this is a true story, and is one of the many reasons I will never buy an American car again. Before my Cavalier even hit 40,000 miles the shocks, ECU and stark plugs & wires needed to be replaced. Plus water would leaked in some how when it rained throw the firewall and 1/4 of the paint peeled away.

  • @coolerdude44
    @coolerdude44 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    that honestly doesn't matter. in terms of fuel bills, the hybrid will probably come out ahead, but in terms of cost per mile and overall costs of ownership, a diesel will win by miles. they only have to be serviced half as much as gasoline engines, they have no spark plugs so they don't break down as much, plus at about 10 years, a hybrid will need its battery pack replaced, which costs $7,000. plus, the diesel gets the same tax breaks, so over a 10 year ownership or so, a diesel wins.

    I just read about that crash protection the new prius will have... great. i can't wait to get rear-ended by middle aged neo-hippies who have fallen out of the habit of using the break pedal because they thought the "crash protection" would kick in.
    a "crash-protection" radar is a VERY bad idea. If you're not coordinated enough to use a break pedal you shouldn't drive a car.

    Toyota is going to do a lot more then just lower the price of the Prius. I have read that they are going to keep selling the 2nd generation Prius (the one in this video) at the same price as the Insight, and at the same time sell the new Prius (3 Gen) that has the most features ever put in a small car. The Insight is more like the 2nd Prius and not in the same league as the new Prius.

    You are right in a way, but you can make a Hybrid, at least in the case of the Prius a Plug-in Hybrid with a range of well over 1,200 miles from only 9 gallons of gas. Currently EVs have a range at best of under 200 miles. In Fact I haven't seen one even go that far. EVs would kill Saudi Arabia since they use no oil to run. They would also hurt the U.S. too. Think of how much in taxes they make from the sale of every gallon. No wonder there aren't any EVs on the road. I can't for an EV!

    Prius rules. People always compare cars with the best one in its class. Oh and by the way that's soon to be the old Prius. The new one which comes out later this year is way better than the old Prius. Honda copied the old Prius. The New 2010 Prius looks way better then both of those cars. I can't believe I am saying this but the new 2010 Prius actually looks pretty cool. Its MPG will be even higher to. My 2007 Prius can go 500+ miles on one tank. It only takes 8.5-9.2 gallons to fill that tank.

  • @ripper3200
    @ripper3200 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    2004 Cavalier cost like $2,500. If you don't have the money, then yeah go buy the cheapest car you can find. Why stop there, go get a 1998 Cavalier for like $400. The Prius is not a cheap car. It has every feature ever put in a car it's size or price. It has a smooth ride and is the quietest car on the road. It also has every safety feature that you can think of and more. People like you think the only thing it has to offer is the best mpg, but there's a lot more to the Prius then 50mpg.

    Thanks for your reply, however what if an EV could have a range of about 500 miles? Not impossible and the technology is out there. Imagine if you only had to charge up your EV once a week. With a little more research and money we could be independent of fossil fuels.

    Bias?
    Since you own a Cavalier and not a Prius, I will tell you what it means. To fill a 2007 Prius only takes 9.5 gallons. With that 9.5 gallons you can drive 500 miles. The New 2010 Prius can drive even further with the same amount of gas. Your Cavalier doesn't cost the same as the Prius to fill. The Prius has an 11.5 gallon tank, but you never put more then 9.5 gallons in it. Your Cavalier takes more then 12 gallons to fill it and even with more gas, can't go nearly as far as the Prius.

    If you're willing to pay 100k for a car you've got to wait overnight for it to charge.

    Its called insurance. Guess what happens when you total a $50,000 car. The insurance company gives you a fat check and you go pick yourself out a new ride. My 2006 RL is paid off because $27,000 of it came from my 2004 TL typeS that I totaled like NASCAR. Thanks to that I paid the brand new RL off in a 2 years. By the way when you crash one of these cars you don't feel a thing. Theyre called air bags and crumple zones. Oh yeah, one other thing, there isn't a lesson to be learned just a new car

    Seriusly, havent you thought about the difference between Quality and Customer Service when you compare Toyota and Honda? Toyota is well known around the world, they care about their customers. The americans false complained about many vehicles and even if they didnt find anything wrong, Toyota recalled over 100 000 vehicles..
