I work as a Nurse in an Endocrinology clinic and your videos are absolutely wonderful. Patient education is ongoing and I like the idea of being armed with more in depth explanations for their why's.
I was inspired by your video which described No GPS - no grains, no potatoes & no sugar. The LCHF seems closely alined with the Keto regime so I have used their guidelines for shopping & cooking. This made staying on track much easier & has worked for me as an over-weight diabetic. I have taken-off 20 pounds easily & have kept it off, without feeling hungry ! And have lowered my A1C. Thank you !
Thanks so much for your videos!! I got on my journey 4 years ago in January. trying different things before this. i liberated 120 lbs 18 inches off my waist! my A1C is 5.2 past August
The hardest part about getting into this lifestyle and diet is (for me) accepting that I can consume all this fat in a day,... that is the level of brain washing and guilt that I have experienced before coming across keto....but I'm working on it, it is reassuring to listen to med. doctors promoting this. Thank you for posting.
2008koss So true! I had a terrible time with the whole concept of eating fat. . .right up to the time I discovered that the more fat I eat the faster the weight melts away! And then my doctor came into the exam room dancing with joy about the results of my bloodwork. I’m convinced.
I'm 3 1/2 months in now and couldn't be happier. My best friend is also now on LCHF, and doing well. My mom and sister are planning to start in the new year. I tell anyone who will listen about it, and direct them to your videos and some of the other helpful ones here on TH-cam.
+Lisa Carrasco hi lisa, i just started, how much weight did you loose already. I;m from Holland and i get most of my information from youtube. thanks for your reply, grts
+rodesia w Hi there in Holland! I've been doing keto for 6 months now and have lost about 20 pounds, and have gone from a size 12 to a size 8. I'd still like to get down to a size 6, but I'm 5'7, so that might be too thin for me at 44. We'll see. I'm happy about the weight loss, but am thrilled with how I feel and with my improved diabetes control (A1c down from 7.6 before keto to 5.8 last week!) My best friend is down 26 pounds and my mom and sister are dropping the pounds as well. It's an amazing way to eat once you get it all figured out. You should check out Keto Karma here on TH-cam. Suzanne has lost over 100 pounds in the last year doing keto. I would go back and watch all her videos from the start. You'll learn so much helpful info and be inspired by her weekly "keto spotlight", where she shares other peoples success stories. Best wishes from Texas!
+Lisa Carrasco thank you for replying, i am very happy that it goes so well for you, i will certainly check out keto karma and thank you for your tips, greetings from Holland, (Utrecht)
A friend at worked turned me onto your Ted Talk. I am amazed. Myself and another work friend are devouring your info an moving forward. Thanks Dr. Hallberg!!
LCHF works. My BP, glucose levels and triglycerides, LDL were high. The visiting nurse insisted I call for emergency but I didn't. Went on getting rid of sugar, refined flour, processed food and very low carb, with 30 mins walk everyday and a good restful sleep, all symptoms back to normal after 3 months! Meanwhile, I lost 10 lbs which I am not ready for because I was 115 lbs to begin with. No meds for HBP and diabetes! 👍👏 Change is not easy BUT worth it!
Ok . One month today following this plan. Still figuring it out , but all in all .. Down twelve pounds! I can live with this. If I can lose 12 lbs in a month then In six months I will be gold.
Thank you so much for your videos! I'm still on the search for a doctor who will work with me to reverse type 2 diabetes. I'm doing this on my own and with keto youtube community, but A1C test results went from 10 in January 2017 to 6.5 after starting the low carb diet in beginning of March. Second A1C was done April 4rth. I quit taking the 2000mg of metformin they had me on and never filled the insulin prescription.
Hi! I started a LCHF life style! I have conducted some research and here I am. I started on the 3rd of July 2017. I am still tracking my food in myfitnesspal not to track calories but to track carbs, fat, sugar, sodium, etc. I have have already lost 8lbs and 1 inch from my waist. My hunger cravings went away. I do not feel hungry all the time like I did before. I am not hating on my conventional eating habits, but I lost weight that way much slower but I did lose weight at least. I am consuming around 80g a day of complex carbs a day. My mood is better as a result it seems, and I am not as tired as I used to be when I was eating lots of carbs.
Excellent video!!! I really appreciate your time! I enjoyed hearing you mention meal ideas. Many of which I have never thought of trying on this program. I love this lifestyle!!!
Big shout out to Dr Sarah!... Low carb & high Healthy Fat is HUGE for my super-busy executive coaching clients. But not only that.... a few years ago I was getting flabby, fatigued and frustrated DESPITE doing triathlon training 5 - 6 X week + low fat high carb eating.... With LCHF + a targeted science-based lifestyle plan, even busy entrepreneurs like me, can get fit & think clearer to get more work done + time for family & church activities.... To your health!, Dan
You are right! It is very important to follow this lifestyle with the help of my family doctor. Unfortunately, in our country it is something new and I was advised to follow high carb lifestyle. I didn't agree and took a risk to do that on my own . After three years , I still alive and my health has improved dramatically. Before my blood pressure was 150/80, my weight was 110kg. Now my blood pressure is 110/80 and my weight is 83kg. I am 60 . If I knew this earlier.....
I wish I had found you sooner Dr Hallberg! Been battling well controlled diabetes type 2 (6.1 A1c) for 10 years and always told my drs- why am I gaining weight with absolutely no changes in my diet or life!! (40 lbs in the last 18 mos.) They had no answers other than cut down carbs and calories. Well, they were 1/2 right! Have started Keto in June and doing well. I hope to reverse this disease process soon. :)
I eat a bowl of porridge with almond milk and full fat yogurt each morning. That keeps me satisfied for a good 5 hours and doesn't make me crave more sugar. I don't mind giving up anything but pls not my breakfast ;)

I love veggies, but the very low carb ones are expensive and harder to get year round where I live (South Korea). I'm getting pretty bored of celery, cabbage and broccoli. I overate peas (frozen peas are rare here, so I got excited when I found them) today not realizing how high in total carb they are! I love peas. I'm beginning to wonder if it might just be okay to eat 50-65 total carbs and be 10 pounds over my ideal weight (154lbs at 5'7") given that I'm 39. I'm not trying to be a super model - just a healthy mom and wife. If too many peas and a half cup of blueberries are my big vices, maybe I should be okay with that?

Hi Dr Sarah - I just came across you channel and am loving it! I had VSG surgery Dec 30th 2015. Prior to surgery I did the LCHF and Los 40 lbs. I am one moth post op and have completed the 2 week liquid and 2 week puréed food requirement. I want to return to the LCHF lifestyle. I am trying to up my protein and still take a chocolate premier shake in the morning so I can have at lest 30 carbs to start...thank you for your help.
I REALLY need to find a new doctor, to put it nicely, mine is clueless about Keto, all she wants to do is throw pills at me. My question is, which type of doctor should I be looking for? ( I am a type 2 diabetic.) Thanks!
Plz do more hi fat meals and desserts ideas. The cheese cake w no graham cracker crust sounds like a decadent dessert !! Store bought would be horrible. Give us more hacks so we don't go nuts w bacon eggs!
Dear Madam I am extremely grateful to God Almighty my eyes have been opened. I am from India and we are still in the ``old world'' rather ``medieval world'' where doctors continue to push Low-fat, Low-carb, high protein -- I have recently had a blood work done -- perfect liver function, TSH 1.3 (on T4) and Total Testosterone - 850 ng/dl. My doctor was horrified to hear that I ate 6 whole eggs he almost fainted and told me to reduce it 2 per day. I am a semi/ametuer strenght athlete...and he still doesn't agree..Btw, he is himself a endo/diabetes doctor and he still believes in the low fat = low cholestrol = good health concept..
I have T2D. I’m currently taking metformin and have been for 2-3 years. I have cut out sugar, rice, pasta, potatoes, all grains and all white foods from my diet. My diabetes is still uncontrolled. I am seriously considering this lifestyle, but I honestly don’t think I’m that far from it, just probably not eating enough fats. I guess I’m just venting here. Not sure I have a question. But I am very frustrated, because my neuropathy is very painful and I’m not losing weight currently.
If one is let's say healthy and with a normal weight do you see any value going for a lchf diet ? What is the benefit for healthy people on this diet, because I basically do ok, with just controlling how much I eat in the day. Thanks
Thanks for another great video. I do have one question about pnuts and pnut butter. Peanuts are a legume (pea),not a nut and they in the roots like potatoes... why are they ok? Thanks :)
Are you on any medications? I was on metformin and noticed my blood sugars were in the 200+ range most of the time, went off and most of my readings dropped by 50-60 pts in 48 hours.... Turns out, some people cannot take metformin. Although, most can so I'm not saying don't if you are on it, only that in MY case (and in some others) it doesn't have the same effect. I have an uncle whose glucose readings were elevated on metformin more than when he was off of it. So, could be a genetic thing. Just one possibility among many.
Hi Dr Sarah. Have you had any experience with LCHF easing endometriosis symptoms? My (adult) daughter is in such a bad way, and because I've found healing for my PCOS through LCHF, I'm wondering if this will help her ...?
My doctor refuses to accept that i do not want to cure food with medication. I cut all insulin and diabetic 2 meds and switched to fat/meat/veggie/fruit diet cutting out sugars and carbs completely and my blood sugars are in normal range by themselves. In the beginning when i was diagnosed i tried 3 carb choice per day diet. The diabetic nutritionist recommended 15 carb choices per day. My sugar jumped to 7.9 it’s crazy. So i am very selective about doctors, just because someone wears a white coat and has a phd it can still be an agent of the big pharma.
Infinity Searcher - Yes, and how do imitation sweeteners fit into the “real food” category? Or are they part of the occasional compromises that make low carb do-able?
You don't count calories, but you count carbs, just as hard, in my opinion. LCHF diet pretty much guarantees that you must eat at home all the time; no more restaurants. Good for your finances, bad for your social life. Is it worth it ? I've been doing it for a year; the first 3 months were great, lost a lot of weight and felt better; but the weight loss stopped and I feel like I used to before I started this.
Thanks for all the videos Sarah, I watched them all and I have a better idea, but I still have questions regarding carb calculation, I mean, from vegetables is already clear, but from fats? I mean, must fats have some carbs in them, like avocado, dairy, nuts, etc, do I need to count all the carbs in them for my daily carb intake or just for the monounsaturated fats or for just nuts... I have PCOS with insulin resistance, so my goal is to be between 30 to 20mg of carbs a day. :)
+Juliana Leyva It's quite simple, if you do a keto diet where you only count grams of net carbs (carbohydrate count-fibre count=net carb) you count the carbohydrate amount in all the foods you consume. So also count them in avocado. If the label on the avocado says it's 2 grams net carbs per 100 grams of avocado you count those 2 grams of net carbs. Your sources of dietary fat do not have to have carbs in them, for example unprocessed meat doesn't have carbs and neither do most oils, it's your choice really. Just check every food label just to be sure.
Juliana Leyva No problem, good luck. I personally think this site helps to figure out the macros for a ketogenic diet www.mydreamshape.com/keto-calculator/
Juliana Leyva hi Juliana I think it is quite unachievable to be trying to limit your intake to 30mg. Are you thinking more of 30gm? in terms of counting carbs , I suggest looking at breakdowns that split the carb content into fibre and other constituents. some schools of thought suggest you can ignore the fibre element and just stick to counting the other carbs and sugars. point to note , again the type of carb may make a difference for example starches may be absorbed slower than sugars because they require a bit of digesting. generally in terms of fats , avoid any processed vegetable oils like sunflower , corn etc. coconut oil is usually fine as is olive oil provided it hasn't been refined into something else. if you're adding olive oil to a meal then add extra virgin oil if you can rather than highly refined oil. but you may not be able to cook in extra virgin oil. in terms of veggies coconut and avocado are great. as are some seeds and nuts. watch out for nuts though , they may contain substances that can cause irritation to your gut like excessive consumption of almonds. it may help to soak such nuts. butter and proper cheese are your friends unless of course you are lactose intolerant. a good cheese will usually contain less than 1 percent carb... butter even less. double cream with no added sugar etc are great. let the food labels or Internet searches guide you. early on it is really important not to starve yourself and sticking to the heavy fat food will ensure your body gets satisfied. keep eating lots of salad but not high carb items like sweet corn , broccoli and leafy veg like kale and spinach are great. they prevent constipation. drink plenty of water too as your mineral balance changes a bit and you may find you have headaches etc as a result of dehydration. look up more information like butter bob , Eric berg who have great advice on keto eating too. there is an adaptation phase but the end result is worth it
It's seems my doctors should be talking to you, either they don't know about this or they just brush it off when you ask them. they sy just do everything in moderation i say BS. thank you so much.
I suggest you to talk very smoother and a low tone (not whispering, but softly) because you voice is really "strong" and all "the things you have to say" will be better understood when your listeners "be able to take their hands off from their ears" (just joking...) because you sound like yelling... ...I am not trying to put you down or something like that. I'm just giving you a tip about mics, sound and voice recording. That's a "technic" used a lot on radio mics and CD recording processes... Please, try it and let me know... About your video, GREAT! Thanx a lot!!!!

Hello. I'm finding some "psycological" troubles trying to remove fruit from my lchf lifestyle. Fruits have a lot of carbohydrates and sugar, but don't they give us precious vitamins? Do you think it's ok to remove fruit?
+Maria Pedro Sales berries are fruit and allowed in moderation, 2.5 net carbs in 1/2 cup sliced. I put erythritol on mine to sweeten. these are allowed also. check carb counts ... Blueberries, raspberrie, blackberries.

my identical twin has had type 1 diabetes since 8 but has followed the American Diabetes Association carb recommended amounts only to be on a roller coaster high low on blood sugars now she is about 30-40 lbs over weight from dosing on insulin from high blood sugars and storing fat from carbs, there is no literature or help out for type 1's for low carb and insulin it's so frustrating she keeps on gaining weight with her insulin and carb recommended by doctors....can she be able to go low carb? and are there any doctors that actually help type 1's?..... type 2s get all the attention and help is so frustrating 😢 💔 anyone have ideas could you help us find help our a referral that deals with low carb and type 1's in the Central Texas area, doctor?

I REALLY need to find a new doctor, to put it nicely, mine is clueless about Keto, all she wants to do is throw pills at me. My question is, which type of doctor should I be looking for? ( I am a type 2 diabetic.) Thanks!
Orena Phoenix-Fire Functional medical doctor.
I’d really like to know the best way to get a hesitant doctor on board?
AmeriJam Acres Your Doctor will get onboard when you lose weight and your bloodwork shows big improvements.
She died this year from cancer :((((( what a loss
Fantastic!
Thank you thank you

What can I follow to start a keto diet?
Can I green juice? If so how much & What kind of veggies
Dear Madam
I am extremely grateful to God Almighty my eyes have been opened.

Dawn Rodriguez Are you eating a lot of fruit or nut butters?
If one is let's say healthy and with a normal weight do you see any value going for a lchf diet ? What is the benefit for healthy people on this diet, because I basically do ok, with just controlling how much I eat in the day. Thanks
Thanks for another great video. I do have one question about pnuts and pnut butter. Peanuts are a legume (pea),not a nut and they in the roots like potatoes... why are they ok? Thanks :)
+Susan Hawthorne Look at the makeup of a pnut, it's not total starch like a potato. I'm not sure what it is but I'm betting high fat, maybe omega 6.
I have a question? I just started. Hflc and my Sugar is staying up. I don't understand why?
Are you on any medications? I was on metformin and noticed my blood sugars were in the 200+ range most of the time, went off and most of my readings dropped by 50-60 pts in 48 hours.... Turns out, some people cannot take metformin. Although, most can so I'm not saying don't if you are on it, only that in MY case (and in some others) it doesn't have the same effect. I have an uncle whose glucose readings were elevated on metformin more than when he was off of it. So, could be a genetic thing. Just one possibility among many.
Where are your clinics? Do you have any in South Florida? Do you have a toll free number? Do your clinics take any insurances?!
Paul Machin I believe they are in every state in the USA now. It depends on your individual insurance plan.
is this the same as keto .can i do this if i dont eat eggs or meat or dairy.
We're wondering if you have any information for vegetarians or vegans. We have a big population in our area.
what about a low thyroid and one kidney? doesn't low thyroid need more carbs?
Mary Christmas❕
Hi Dr Sarah. Have you had any experience with LCHF easing endometriosis symptoms? My (adult) daughter is in such a bad way, and because I've found healing for my PCOS through LCHF, I'm wondering if this will help her ...?
thank you
My doctor refuses to accept that i do not want to cure food with medication.
Thank you. However you should define "real food". You use the term frequently but what do you mean by "real food"?
Plain Popcorn thanks a lot!! It's hard at first to absorb all info and I want to make it right! 😊🙏🏻
Juliana Leyva No problem, good luck.
I personally think this site helps to figure out the macros for a ketogenic diet
www.mydreamshape.com/keto-calculator/
Plain Popcorn great! I'll make sure to stop by that website today! 😊😊🙏🏻
How about milk, cheese, yogurt etc?
l live in qatar and i cant find any dr. who can help me with lchf diet. I have been watching videos and reading articles about this life style. I have started it around two weeks back. Within two days my sugar was in normal range . But now im feeling extreme guiddiness. Dont know what i should do.
pls help
How many years have you been eating LCHF?
Blueberries,raspberrie, blackberries.
I have been doing lchf for 6 days now and have lost nothing! I've been following it exactly and am very frustrated. I'm type 2 diabetic...could my body just take longer to respond?
amy2beth have you tested your ketone levels? If you are not producing ketones you might feel hungry. It took me 3 days to enter into ketosis but 2 weeks to start losing weight, and up to 6 weeks to be totally fat adapted
Its the carbs in one sitting. no more than 15 grams or less per sitting.
Not if you have gall bladder problems
my identical twin has had type 1 diabetes since 8 but has followed the American Diabetes Association carb recommended amounts only to be on a roller coaster high low on blood sugars now she is about 30-40 lbs over weight from dosing on insulin from high blood sugars and storing fat from carbs, there is no literature or help out for type 1's for low carb and insulin it's so frustrating she keeps on gaining weight with her insulin and carb recommended by doctors....can she be able to go low carb? and are there any doctors that actually help type 1's?..... type 2s get all the attention and help is so frustrating 😢 💔 anyone have ideas could you help us find help our a referral that deals with low carb and type 1's in the Central Texas area, doctor?
+Melissa Saucedo There's a group on Facebook called Type1Grit. They follow Dr. Bernstein's protocol for treating type I diabetes. Dr. Bernstein himself is a type I diabetic. Some of his book is available free here: www.diabetes-book.com/
Great!Thank you Oliver 😊👍
Melissa Saucedo

What about brown bread?
Spike blood glucose just slightly less than white bread. No where near safe levels though.
Could you please tell mr where I can find dr Sarah on facebook?
thanks
Can I eat like this with having my gallbladder removed?
