My first car was a 57 4 door hardtop 283 power pack with a 3 speed transmission. It had come from the factory with a automatic, factory AC, power brakes, power steering. And power windows. The AC and automatic transmission had been removed but the rest was still there. Was a fun car. Seeing this brought back a lot of memories. The town north of were I lived had a 4 lane main street that is part of route 66. It had stop lights every block. We race stop light to stop light didn't get beat very often. Them old 283s was good motors.
Thanks for the video and memories. God bless. Dan

Man, this was great. I ran a 56 in early '70's and Grumpy gave me valuable help with it. What flashbacks👍🏽.

13 second 283's were the bane of all us BB drivers. We'd have a 383 Savoy or Polara 4-speed that we thought was the baddest thing around and one of those little 283 cars would show up and teach us a lesson or two ... I had an S-55 390 4-speed Merc that was sweet and quick. Got schooled one night by a 327 4-speed 57 Chevy out at 4-Lanes, north of Santa Cruz. These are the cars that built the Small Block reputation :-)

That's awesome story! It's amazing that 57 ran 13:40's, my brother's 69' chevelle, with a med built 454 ran 12:76 at 106mph. So that is amazing!!! Can't wait for the next video!!!

Great video. What a history lesson. 57s are my favorite 50s car. When I was 4 years old in 1957 living in Pasadena Ca. There was a lady that parked her brand new red with a white top 57 In our driveway because she didn’t want to risk getting a door ding at her job. I used to stand at the back screen door and stare at it. Plus a few years later visiting my Uncle in Omaha Nebraska he had a 57 handy man wagon. Blue with a white top. Take care

I remember seeing what I believe to be this car about 5 plus years ago at the Curtis Lumber car show in Ballston Spa NY. I remember it having serious race history and the 4 door 4 speed is what caught my attention. If you talk to the caretakers ask them if they took it to that show. I can't believe there would be two cars like this out there. Another great video brother!

As a early teen in the 60s my bedroom was filled with pictures of 57s that were cut out of Hot Rod or Car Craft magazines and this 57 was one of them.
To line up next to it in the staging lanes at the Tri-5 Nationals every year absolutely blows my mind. I love all of the Jr Stockers including my fellow Californian Tom with the " The Man" 57 Chevy Police Car.
Its starting to come to me why I built my 57 is the way I did.. Its because I loved all these Jr Stockers but also I loved the Gassers and the Diggers / Front Engine Dragsters too and maybe that is why my 57 looks the way it looks.
Its kind of a gasser but to the purest a true gasser must have a straight axle. It has the same 90/10 shocks as the Jr Stockers have but I have no front bumper like a gasser.
The engine belongs in a Jr Fueler so its got that going on because I was lucky to have the opportunity to drive my Uncles Jr Fueler in the late 60s.
That being said we are under the gun to get the 57 ready for the first TRI-5 nationals on the west coast in -less than 3 weeks. The bad part is that we dropped 2 cylinders racing in Bowling Green last month and with covid going on our business as been hit hard.
The Fix : I am selling photos of "The Last Pass" on eBay to help with the needed expediting cost to complete this in 3 weeks and get the straight axle FINALLY on the car.
We do have a couple sponsors on board that will match the funds raised to complete the car so if you would like to be the part of something good, see the results and get your name mentioned in a video this is it.
The pictures are available on eBay to all that can afford to buy one or 100 of them it all helps get the job done. Just type in eBay search "The Last Pass" videos
We will be posting videos of the process every other day and thanking all of you personally that have bought photos. Our goal is selling just 1000 photos Thanks

Back in the days of Junior Stockers and Modified Production a lot of the cars were painted white underside for a lot of races were ran at night and the lighting in the pits was not the best so white helped when you had to work under the car at night,

Nice story. I love tri five Chevys. My dad has a 55 BelAir 2 door hardtop that he has owned since 1970. I'm currently restoring a 56 BelAir 2 door hardtop that my dad bought in 1976 for 275 dollars. It had been raced in the 1960s and 1970s with a 396 with 3 deuces and a 4 speed with 4.11 gears and Hooker Headers with Cragar wheels. When my dad bought it a 283 and 3 speed manual had been put in it and the 396 and 4 speed had went into a 69 Z28 Camaro. When I was sanding on the car a couple years ago I found the words The Black BelAir painted in front of the wheelwells and along the bottom of both doors. And had 396 on the top of each fender. It was painted black and white from the factory and changed to solid black for its racing maybe before. What kind of class would my 56 have been ran in? I don't know much about drag racing.
