Yea people take few moments of them out and use it to describe their whole game. Watching a full 90 minutes of them consistently in my time, messi is far more game changing than Ronaldo. He is the one on the pitch dictating the game. Loose sight of him for a second and the balls already in the goal. Ronaldo is also extremely dangerous, but no where as close as Messi. Looking back at the career of Messi and everything he has shown and done on the pitch, what he has produced in output and won on top of all that, there is no shame in Ronaldo coming 2nd to such an alien.
Cr7 however has shown and set a blueprint to all aspiring footballers that may not be gifted as much in ability as their peers that among magicians in the game you can still through sheer hard work, dedication and winning mentality, take yourself into the conversation amongst the greatest. He will always be admired as the best role model and a personal goat for those reasons for many people…
Of course Ronaldo also had the talent and Messi had the mentality, but what clearly stood out and is most known about the two is Messi’s outstanding ability which is down to his natural football genius and Ronaldo’s clutch performances be it finals or other big games… which is down to his outstanding mentality, drive and determination of winning whilst having an extreme bitter hate to lose…

Unfair taking into account that Messi always played in the Spanish Laliga and when he left, he went to a minor league like the one in France, Ronaldo played in the 3 big leagues and only when he was 38 did he go to a minor league, it is more difficult to get statistics at the best level.
Trophies? The same as the previous point, Messi has won in his greatest successes: World Cup, Copa America, LaLiga, Champions League, Club World Cup, Uefa Super Cup.
Ronaldo: Euro Cup, Champions League, Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, LaLiga but also the Premier League (The Most Competitive of All Leagues) and Serie A (The Most Defensive Ligue) not to mention that Ronaldo won all his titles being the best Unlike Messi, he won a champions league, being irrelevant (2006), two leagues in Spain and one in France the same, as well 2 super cups, but that is something irrelevant.
Awards: It's almost the same thing, difference in leagues, difference in getting awards, more difficult.

@@FabrizioTapia-kt5mrListen now. Lets all agree. The biggest argument Ronaldo fans have is "but ronaldo is a better goalscorer" like bro,Messi litterally scores more goals per game. And that's not even talking about all the assists and chances he provides. Like Ronaldo fans are straight up delusional and most of Ronaldo fans i know dont even watch football. Even Ronaldo fans deep down know Messi is better but don't show it,because they cant stand it,they just cant. Messi is the GOAT,and Ronaldo is the only player in the last decade that has even came close to him. So now people are trying to make controversy saying Ronaldo is better but in reality.Messi is the GOAT,and Ronaldo is second, then everyone else. And Ronaldo fans like to say "oh well but he has great mentality" like are you guys that delusional? He HAD great mentality now he likes breaking kids phones, leaving the stadium early when his team is losing and disrespecting an entire club. No player is more important than an entire club,no matter how great the player is. Club comes first, then coach, then the players. And keep in mind i said PLAYERS,not Ronaldo specifically. Because all players are equal,no player should be allowed something the others arent allowed to do. For example: Not coming to training. And a lot of people are attacking Erik Ten Hag when in reality Manchester United has been better since Ten Hag,and thats a fact. You wanna know why? Because he treats all players equally. And someone selfish like Ronaldo is angry that he doesnt get privilege now.. So basically,Ten Hag proved the point "Manager is always more important thsn player,no matter how great a player may be,the coach comes first."
Let me end this on a quote
"Ronaldo needs other players to provide for him and get him chances to score, but Messi can dictate an entire game for his club",and that's the main difference.

-He has problems with Ronaldo for missing training due to his daughter's hospitalization, he is removed from the team and he signs Weghorst
-Lose 3-0 with Sevilla (12th place in the Spanish league)
-Does not renew De Gea, a pillar of the team, the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the premier 22-23
-Spend 55 million on Onana (he received 2 goals per game)
And this is only in its first season, do you really think that Ten Hag was right?

no one can do anything impossible
The fact that a human did it means that it’s possible. So Ronaldo and Messi’s legacy can be achieved with a good enough dedication. Also ppl that normally say, “It’s was never a debate” only said that because of recent times and the World Cup of course.
But I’ll say that it was actually a debate, at least at that time. If you watched them earlier in their career you would know. Ronaldo made a massive comeback from 1:4 ballon d’ors to 5:5 ballon d’ors. To the point where he almost surpassed Messi if not Modric in 2018.
That’s why when I hear ppl saying that it was never a debate I just know that they started watching football recently😂.
The truth is that Messi won at the end but as for the debate, it was a very valid debate.
Ronaldo really put up a good fight and proved himself a worthy opponent and he’ll always have my respect for that.

Messi destroyed English teams any time they met. Facts.
“Messi have never had to adapt” - Messi have played as a winger, false 9, number 9 and an 8. All at the same time at times.
And don’t get me started on the teammates. He have had to put up with Martin Braithwaite, Kevin Boateng, Paulinho, Samuel Umtiti, , Munir, Deolofeu, Rafinha, Sergi Roberto, Sandro and a bunch of other below mediocre players and have not complained even once. He played many years without both Xavi and Iniesta and made every single player around him better.
Messi’s ability to adapt is far more impressive than Ronaldo who joined an already winning United, a clear Real Madrid (on paper but still lost 9 out of 11 la liga titles) and a dominating Juventus in Italy. Ronaldo plays for himself and he would never join a team that wasn’t already completed.

Messi clears and the stats n achievements backs it up, it's not really close as ppl say. These are their current stats:
Most goal contribution of all time is Messi. Messi has 815 goals and 357 assists (1,172 in total g+a) in 1,033 appearances while cr7 has 838 goals and 236 assists (1,080 in total g+a) in 1,168 appearances. Messi has 138 less appearances than cr7 and still performed better
Messi has 64 freekick goals (cr7 has 60) Messi has 89 outside the box goals (cr7 has 63) Messi has 314 man of the matches (cr7 has 173)
In all time top 5 leagues stats (in Europe) Messi has 496 goals and 222 assists (718 in total) with 578 appearances, cr7 has 495 goals and 140 assists (635 in total) with 626 appearances
In all time club (excluding friendlies) Messi has 707 goals and 304 assists (1,011 in total) with 855 appearances. Cr7 has 715 goals and 203 assists (918 in total) with 968 appearances
Messi and cr7 in la liga (all competitions): Messi with 472 goals and 177 assists (649 in total) with 476 appearances while cr7 has 450 goals and 120 assists (570 in total) with 438 appearances
H2H games against each other: Messi has 22 goals and 12 assists (34 in total) with 36 appearances (both of them have 36 appearances ofc) cr7 has 21 goals and 1 assists (22 in total) Messi has 16 wins over cr7 while cr7 has 11 wins.
People like to bring up age about how "at 35 cr7 was a Juventus while Messi is at mls" you have to realize that Messi already completed everything that needed to be completed. Then cr7 fans say that cr7 did better even tho 35 yr old cr7 had 722 goals and 217 assists (939 in total) with 995 appearances while Messi has 769 goals and 331 assists (1,100 in total) with 974 appearances. I don't get why cr7 fans bring up age when it clearly shows that Messi is still better
Stats at age 36 (since Messi jus turned 36): messi has 807 goals and 357 assists (1,164 in total) with 1,028 appearances while cr7 at 36 had 762 goals and 225 assists (987 in total) with 1043 appearances (this in itself shows that messi is better)
Btw Messi has 702 goals without pens while cr7 has 686 Goals and assists in finals: messi has 34 goals and
15 assists (49 in total) while cr7 has 22 goals and 2 assists (24 in total). yet ppl say messi "ghosts" in finals El clásico goals and assists: Messi has 26 goals and 14 assists (40 in total) while cr7 has 18 goals and 1 assist (19 in total)
Now for awards Messi has over cr7: 8 ballon dors
7 FIFA world player of the year
    6 golden boot
2 World Cup golden balls (first ever player to have 2)
    2 copa america golden ball

I still remember those messi false 9 moments in 2011-12, abnormal playmaking in 2015, the most complete player who single-handedly fought everyone in 2019 and a leader in 2022.

There's no debate anymore, It's not 2010 when this was a valid question of:
"I wonder who'd end up being better when everything is done and said?"
We already got an answer and it's clearly Messi.
That's why I really think you can very accurately predict if someone has ball knowledge or not based on who they think is better between the two. Not who they like the most, but who they think is a better footballer. There's not a problem liking Ronaldo more than Messi, but saying he is better than Messi is simply and objectively wrong.
I mean you can go and check yourselves the stats showed in this video more indepth, and you'll literally see Messi being on top for everything excepting
    Aerial duels
    Headers
    Penalty conversion rate
I also want to mention that a certain part of both their fanbases are equally stupid.

I agree except that if you really understand football, by 2010 it was more than obvious that Messi was the better footballer. Nobody thought “oh but maybe Cristiano becomes a great playmaker in 10 years”. In fact the opposite happened. He kept being more and more in the box.

Take away all the stats, titles, trophies and honors for both and then you'll see how much better Messi just is. Even at 37, he's still a lethal footballer.
The same can't be said for Ronaldo who has been on a decline. He relied on his speed and power so much and age just catched up.
While Leo evolved. He knew speed and those team killing water strider dribblings won't do him good if he overusues it, so he became a playmaker. But when he needs to dribble past multiple opponents in a flash, he does it flawlessly.
Leo's vision also became better with age. His pinpoint passing with those vision plus his football intelligence, all that made him even more dangerous without even running much.
And he inspires everyone playing with him.
What I'm trying to say is Leo is just light-years ahead of everyone else.
