When I see takes like this, I realise how stupid and jealous some people are. If ronaldo didn’t score, you’d be like: he’s so shit he can’t score vs those teams. So basically you have an agenda whereby whatever the outcome, you will still shit on him. If Ronaldo was 5”7, shy and not outspoken, you’d be singing his praises because that’s what you relate to. You can hate him as a person but you cannot shit on his legacy. Simple

98% is of people who are extremely biased (especially messi fans) Ronaldo fans too
If you watched their games Messi was the far better technically gifted football player
Yea people take few moments of them out and use it to describe their whole game. Watching a full 90 minutes of them consistently in my time, messi is far more game changing than Ronaldo. He is the one on the pitch dictating the game. Loose sight of him for a second and the balls already in the goal. Ronaldo is also extremely dangerous, but no where as close as Messi. The fact that a human did it means that it’s possible. So Ronaldo and Messi’s legacy can be achieved with a good enough dedication. Also ppl that normally say, “It’s was never a debate” only said that because of recent times and the World Cup of course.
But I’ll say that it was actually a debate, at least at that time. If you watched them earlier in their career you would know. Ronaldo made a massive comeback from 1:4 ballon d’ors to 5:5 ballon d’ors. To the point where he almost surpassed Messi if not Modric in 2018.

The Ronaldo the hard worker vs Messi the talent has got to be the most reductionist narrative in football. People forget just how much of a talent Ronaldo is. There's no young talent on the face of the earth that even touches his level at his age.
Amen! Just because you see more of Ronaldo doing the work doesn't mean Messi isn't putting in the same amount of work. How would he have become a freekick specialist without putting in the hours? Ronaldo is the undisputed goat, keep crying
this is historical revisionism. by this logic the modern game will have no real goats because freedom in football is dying. the sport is evolving, you rarely see magic anymore. its all about systems and tactics, with each player playing a small role. messi and ronaldo were the last of the era were individuals could make the difference. you rarely see that anymore, teams are more compact and players are afraid of taking risks. the try to keep possession of the balls and only strike when there is a high chance of scoring. ronaldo is the top scorer of all time, its insanely disrespectful to not put him up there simply because you dislike his attitude or how his tenure at united ended. this is masked hate, and its highly normalised in the ronaldo issue. people act like he has always been a poacher when he had a good 10 years of playing on the wing before ancelloti. out of the 4, ronaldo is the odd one out technically yes but he has a unique skillset the others dont. his aerial prowess and positioning ability is inarguably better. his later years in his first spell at united and his initial years at madrid, he was an absolute joy on the ball. you need to watch it

Two things that really bother me in this discussion is when peole do the talent vs hardwork, and some people whowhen they are going to compare their playstyles, treat Ronaldo like if he was always the number 9 that he became later, ignoring the differences between how he played at United, or even the the first years of Real Madrid. I've also seen people who would treat Messi in a way that to me sounded like they are saying he was always a midfielder, even if during some of his best moments at Barcelona he was playing as a false 9 or a winger, but these are way less common.

That's why its called a 'False9' fr a reason. He was not playing the traditional number 9 penalty box striking role like fr instance what Haaland or Cr7 in his older years plays like.If at all u watched those barca games under Pep,he still used to drop deep into midfield n link up plays with Xavi n Iniesta all whilst pushing forward in attack n finishing the moves at the back of the net.He only played the false 9 role during the 2011-2012 season when David Villa had that unfortunate knee injury that kept him out fr most of the season n the better part of 2012.Pep on realising that vacuum engineered that ingenious tactic of deploying Messi that false 9 role by taking advantage of Messi's versatility n it worked perfectly. Its the season that Messi ended up with a record breaking of 73 goals in a single season in all competitions n a 91 calendar year goals to his name in 2012.The rest of the seasons he had real number 9 strikers upfront so there was no need fr him to play the false 9 again even though he still outscored those strikers in his teams apart from his Psg stint. In 2013,Villa returned n left in 2014 where Suarez came in and took over that striking mantle and as we know the rest is history.Suarez played with messi till 2020 when he departed n frthe all, that time together he was both the clubs playmaker but still scoring tonnes of goals. From 2005-2009 he hadwas Samuel Etoo as the striker,2010 Ibrahimovich n after the fall out with Pep,Villa took over in 2011.So this narrative that messi has been playing as a false 9 that's why he has many goals is absolute BS!
