    Yet another great film and probably the best I’ve seen from you,I think you managed to capture the darker side of running and you show that even people at your level suffer and you show how to try and cope with it,thanks for sharing and showing the real side of trail running as I prepare for my first 100 next year.😃👍👍

      I'm happy with this one too - ultras (and life) is not always rainbow in butterflies. It's hard to capture this on films however...
      Happy training and good luck for your 100!

    This was a great view of the race, Simon. Love the nutritional breakdown at the aid stations and your mile by mile single word descriptors which really gave insight into your state of mind and body. Prescott is a beautiful place to run. Love that Versteeg and Jamil were part of your story, your final reflections and how you light up at the sight of the lovely Nora : )

      And I was due for a break after Javelina. I could really feel that my recovery after Diagonale des fous, with the flying and no sleeping, really hurt me. Not long term hurt, but just, not doing great. But now I have time for some solid recovery, and solid training after that

    Hey Simon; what an amazing adventure, thank you for taking me along. So much of my life has been spent in Prescott and the surrounding area from family vacations to my college education and it was amazing to c you run Saddles and to c Nora’s smiling face again! I think one of your great strengths is watching you kick yourself out of the initial mental toughness the night brings and find the positive attitude again as you embrace the night ! I look forward to your next adventure

    You really captured the essence of the race on this one. Thanks for all the kind words. Thanks for the encouragement when we last parted. You told me "i know you will make it. You KNOW you will have to suffer so you'll make it." There was suffering. I felt just like you looked the last 25 miles. What a great day. Rest, recover, laugh and love. Cant wait to see what's next. Peace. Capt. Dave

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's definitely "controlled crazy" - there's not so much left to chance, and it's about knowing exactly the limit of 'what is too much' and just flirt with that line but not cross it

      Sometimes I wish I'd knew the name of the trail we use so I could provide it, giving folks the opportunity to discover when in the area. At the same time, I like sometimes (like this race) when I have literally no clue where I am, and everything is just a surprise! Even weirder was to then be on a trail and think 'hey hold up....I've been on this exact spot at cocodona!

    Congrats on another adventure! What a gorgeous, and very runnable, route! (New Englander here. 😅) YOU might not have been expecting Nora to show up, but my mind immediately said "of course she will, it's Nora and she's awesome!" 😂 I will add that race to my list of "when I have the money", but I absolutely refuse to support the hashtag Stay Moist!! 😂

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I knew she'd probably come along somewhere, but didn't know where/when. I expected it more early evening. And that was all dependant on tracking working well (which sometimes is poo poo). Of course I was glad to see her, and I'd rather not expect her and be positively surprised (vs. the other way around)

      I don't know the exact politics and ownership structure, but this one is actually NOT Aravaipa. Jam Jam had some of his crew help, but ultimately it's a Versteeg race. But yes aravaipa is growing fast and hard - expanding to North East and all

    Awesome video! Thank you for sharing this. I’m just curious…. When you post your calorie intake…. Is that the amount of calories you have between aid stations or do you consume all of that at the aid station? It looks like you eat mostly off the aid stations…. Is that true? I love your videos. You’re crushing it! So inspiring: thanks for posting these

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's both - the breakdown you see is everything I had at that aid station, and on the trail leading up to it. I think at first I mostly consume while on trail (although might down a few items at aid station). But further in the race when GI is irritated, I'll have more of those calories come from sit down item like ramen, mashed potatoes, coke.
      Oh and last piece - it's approx. of course. I record myself saying what I had, but items that aren't packed are hard to measure (e.g., if I had some mashed potatoes in a cup - how much was it?)

      @@runningwithsimon thanks so much! I usually run with only gels and a few light treats at aid stations…. I will try this…. Thanks. I appreciate your videos! I got into Hurt 100 so that one has been helpful to watch 😃

  • @rorywilson4965
    @rorywilson4965 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey good job Simon! Question, where you write down all the things you consumed in all your aid stations, is that exactly what you took in? For example, 750 mL Tailwind. Is that what you drank at that aid stations, notwithstanding what you put in your bottles?

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's the total including the segment before the aid station, and the aid station itself. Fluid is the hardest one to be accurate because you can't measure so well. So guestimate on the spot. What I do is come in aid station, empty my pockets of trash to count wrappers ("ok I had 3x gels), have some stuff on the spot, refill fluid. And once out the aid station I record myself saying that total.

    Hey Simon, great job as always just curious what waist light are you using? Keep crushing it!

    • @runningwithsimon
      @runningwithsimon  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I used Ultraspire's waist light (blanking on the name right now). One thing to note is that the battery life isn't as great at the Fenix headlamp I have on this, so I sometimes turn off the waist and remain with headlamp only. Only on more technical or when I'm tired. I've never tried that waist lamp by itself either.
