Well done Paul, I first started walking when I was 60 and the whw was my first. Now I'm 80 and it's gone, but boy, did it bring back memories. I was almost in tears. Ta mate.
Well I guess it's coming to us all! That's actually a big motivation for doing these videos. So others can experience these routes that can't or no longer can.... And I know I'll be there one day, so great to have these memories to look back on!
Hey Paul. Only just picked up on your channel. Literally took up trail running a few weeks ago. Coming from a lifetime of international pole vaulting (Junior to Masters) and not running more than about 30 metres (😂) it has been quite a change. But at 71 I am so excited by the new challenge. Love watching videos like yours. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. The videos are both enjoyable and inspiring. Good luck to you. I look forward to seeing you achieving more successes on your own journey. 👍🏻 Allan
Hi Allan, thanks so much for getting in touch! Very inspiring to hear your story and love the fact you've started trail running in your 70s!! Glad to hear you're enjoying the videos, plenty more to come!!
Thanks so much for your comment! For me it was a bucket list race. Being Scottish and having completed the route so many times, I was determined to finish it within the day!!
Congratulations Paul. Really enjoyed watching that from Singapore. Super impressive, especially your positive attitude throughout. Look forward to watching more. All the best 👍
Thanks so much for your comment, it's kinda funny to think of my videos being watched all the way over there!! Just started on the next one.... The Tor des Geants!
Absolutely amazing. I love the WHW and this would be incredible to do, but that takes a special sort of person and grit and that I do not have lol. Well done!!!
Thank you and yes, it does take a fair amount of determination! And problem with doing it in one go like that is you miss alot of the stunning scenery by running through the night.
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed it! Yes these videos are good for going back to see all the bits that went by in a blur. Certainly nicer to do it over 8 days and full appreciate the scenery (and to see it all in the light!!)
Great achievement and great video, really enjoyed this. I've done a couple of bit of the WHW and this race is definitely on my bucket list after seeing this!
Cheers man! Only slightly annoying thing with the race is that you have to bring your own support crew! Looking forward to watching you swiss alps video... Could be one for my list!!
@@TheRandomRunner Yes there's not many events out there with a mandatory crew. Looks like it had a really good community feel to it. Swiss Alps was a super event, just stunning scenery, would definitely recommend 👍
154 km's and I think I gave thumb up nr 154! Have walked the WHW in 8 days and have tried to imagine how this would be running. Thank you for this nice video!
Thank u so much! Yeah I remember hearing about the race many many years ago and thought how do people manage that in one go! Funny how these things work!!
Great video...I was one of those chasing the cut offs ( 11 seconds to spare at one point....), so no time for luxuries like taking photos, or sitting down to breakfast! It's great to see how the "other half" (i.e. the sub-24 hour guys) live....well done on your time ( I was a mere 9-odd hours slower).......a great guide to the race for anyone new to it.
Awesome, really appreciated all it takes to film and edit these, may have to add this event to my ever growing bucket list. But the loop of Arran still looks like the best.
Cheers man! Indeed, more effort editing than running 😂 The Arran Coastal way is great, just ashame they haven't created a trail down the north West Coast of it, means that side is mostly a road run! At least they are generally quiet roads!!
Fantastic video... I totally admire everyone who runs the whw its hard enough walking it... Grest video Paul got emotional watching that last runner coming in...
Thank you! I actually think that walking it say over 5 days is harder. Alot of it comes down to time on feet.. The quicker you do it, the less they'll hurt!! Yeah the last runner coming in was quite something!
@@TheRandomRunner watched all your videos now honestly the most entertaining ultra runner and inspiring how you manage to do these runs and make them look relatively easy buddy ! Iv applied for RAS 2025 so hopefully get accepted 💪
Great video mate. The wee cottage at 12:30 belonged to my dad many moons ago. Loads of memories going up there when it still had a roof😂. Family sold it to Ali Campbell of UB40 when my dad passed.
Well done! Stumbled across your video by chance. I'd actually decided to walk the stretch from Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy that day (I have a somewhat lower level of fitness than you!) unaware there was a race on. I just thought there were a lot of runners out that day... took a while for the penny to drop! You may well have ran past me that day!
YESSSS LOVE IT PAUL! Really well done. Very well made vlog too. Very useful and informative. I'll definitely be watching it again when it comes to my time. Can't believe how close you and Scott were at the finish line. Haha chasing you down was he? Well done again mate.
Cheers Stephen! Yeah I'd caught up with him just before the descent to Fort William. Think he maybe had to stop to get his headtorch out as he fell behind. Was just as I was coming into the sports centre I heard a pad of feet behind me!!
Great effort Paul! The last time I did the WHW it took me 5 days, and I don't remember the bit beside Loch Lomond, nor the descent to Kinlochleven fondly.
@@TheRandomRunner I liked that you tried to eat normal food. Would find the nutrition part difficult, too many gels or the like would make me nauseous.
Really good vid, very relevant for me. I understand you’ll get asked these kinda things a lot - I’ve browsed ur previous vids and don’t see any prep detailed - but I’m wonderin ur rough time on feet and/or weekly mileage to achieve such a feat? Also do u have any weight trainin protocols that u maintain or one that u had in place for this specifically? I’m hopin to take on the WHW next year, from the other side, and as someone who’s only maxed out at 40 miles on the flat once before, I’m just tryin to pick a few experienced brains before I push on.
Hi there! If you've got Strava, prob best look me up on there....Check out Paul Manson on Strava strava.app.link/1uTYGLK9PLb I also do 2 weights sessions a week, 1 day on legs (split squats, deadlifts etc) then one day on some general upper body and core work. I do around 3 yoga sessions a week, just at home, bit of a fan of Yoga with Adriene! Running wise I'll try and do one hill session and one speed session a week. For the last year or so I've been doing one big ultra a month, which kinda keeps on top of the fitness. Inbetween I'll usually aim for around 100k a week. Hope this helps!
@@TheRandomRunner Just the insight a was lookin for pal, many thanks for the detailed response. Discovered ur channel via an insta share and i look forward to following along.
Well done! Amazing achievement and fab video. I think you mentioned that you have done the WHW over 2 days and also over 3 days in the past. I am planning on doing it over 3 days - How did you split the distance? Thanks!
Thank you! 3 days is a bit tricky as meant we had a big first day staying at the Drovers at Inveranan (around 67k) . Then it was onto kingshouse (53k) then last day to Fort William about 40k. And we used one of the baggage transfer companies to take stuff to each stop. Meant we could travel a bit lighter! Hope this helps!
I plan to... Currently working on the Lakeland 100 one. Actually have around 4 or 5 big runs filmed, but just not enough time to get them edited. Will get there, all in good time!! 🤞
