    I first found you on TH-cam about 6 months ago and have been hooked ever since, I subscribed and went back and watched every VLOG I found (watching them all in order), I think that your video's are as good or better then anything I see on Discovery , History, or the like done on much bigger budgets, every time I get a message that a new video has been posted, I can't wait to see it! I spent 4 years in the US NAVY stationed on Whidbey island and sailing in the Med., then took a job as a service technician and traveled even more, and I always tell every, "do it while your young" it's more fun and you can do more. Now I just turned 50 and have 2 young boys that keep me occupied and broke (HOCKEY!) But watching your adventures is like therapy for a grounded adventurer. I'll be getting a small sailboat within a year so me and my boys can go learn how to sail, thanks for the inspiration , and safe travels.

    Living vicariously through you all's sailing/life adventures makes me hopeful that one day I will embark on a similar journey. If the winds are kind, I may even be lucky enough to form a group of kindred spirits as fantastic and amazing as you all are.
    Much love! ~ A Sailor at Heart

    Even though I have a cooking channel on TH-cam, this is by far my favorite channel to watch, above all the people I know with their own cooking channels! You have been a total inspiration to my oldest son who recently purchased his first sailboat. Something to learn with similar to the one you described with the keel that will let up and down with a crank. I recently bought a brand new Suzuki 9.9 HP kicker motor for it with a remote throttle, and he installed a solar panel to keep his batteries charged up as well as a lot of other things needed on this 1979 MacGregor Venture 25. He has already started a channel up as well. Early beginnings, but you guys have shown what is possible if the passion and love for it is truly there!

    Well...hallelujah!!! People that understand the meaning of life. It is not in the endorsements you gain or the material goods you accumulate. But the life you live each and every day.
    I'm from Flagstaff, as well, so I don't know if being surrounded by such beauty instilled a peaceful heart. But thank you a million times for not succumbing to the material gods!!!
    I enjoy the channel so much. I sail and love the feeling of calm.

    Great job on the videos and your meet up. I for one are glad you guys do this so people like myself can see places I will never get to in person. To you commenting fools, Karin is a little shy and she can hold her own. She is the glue that holds Delos together and has a big impact as part of the crew of Delos. She said it best when they talked about the guy trying to steal the outboard motor. She grabbed the video camera because she knew that was something she could do to help. Karin has a lot of common sense and it shows in everything she does on the boat. All three of them complement each other in a top notch crew. Thnks for all you guys do and as always I will be looking forward to your next video. (p.s. The Karin intro is the best. Love when she dives in the water. She looks like a super hero! )

    About Delos 2.0: I think you might enjoy reading 'Between Two Poles' (ISBN: 0747519722). Now that you're visiting Brazil, if you are planning a stop in Paraty, you may end up meeting the author yourself. He is a renowned Brazilian sailor and adventurer who accomplished the first single-handed crossing of the South Atlantic in a rowing boat!

    Thanks guys for your presentation. Much appreciated. There has been a rumour going around about you talking with Amel. Reading between the lines is this completely wrong or is there a possibility of seeing a Delos 2 at some stage from Amel. I mean to say you have proven Delos as one hell of a boat. "If it's not broken then don't fix it?"

    • @tbonemc2118
      @tbonemc2118 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As far as I know Amel don't make cats and I won't dignify such a ridiculous comment by bothering to find out. Even more affronting is that you posted your comment on this page as the Delos crew would be the last people to talk about other sailors in a derogatory manner.The last I heard La Vagabond are planning a clockwise circumnavigation of the northern Atlantic so your information about the French Riviera is about as wrong as the ugly pills you're taking.

    I really enjoyed all three parts of your presentation and I learned new things or straightened out some wrong ideas. Special ops like this is why Delos stays at number one in my book. No doubt the main reason Delos is so interesting and well liked, is due to Brian, Karin and Brady. There were some very rude talking people in the back that made it a bit hard sometimes to hear what was being said up front....made me wonder why they even came.

    Brian, I have heard you say that Delos is an energy thirsty boat. How many watts of solar do you guys have on board?

    • @roadrashray9416
      @roadrashray9416 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tereasa A- In a previous video Brian stated Delos could generate 600 watts from the solar panels. In addition to the solar they also have 2 wind generators, however I can't remember if any power output from those has been provided. They also have a propeller ocean driven generator, though the only time I remember that being used was when they were on a lengthy crossing of the Indian ocean and the inverter failed so they couldn't get any 24V power from the diesel generator. Ray

    • @-che.cha-
      @-che.cha- 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      RoadRashRay- Hey thanks for a reply! I know that they have at least one wind genny and yes another pull behind. For some reason I thought that Brain stated that they have 800 W in solar. Maybe i heard wrong? Just want to kinda get a reading. My boat is much smaller than theirs (38) & my husband insists on 1000W in solar. To me this is over kill..... or is it?

    • @roadrashray9416
      @roadrashray9416 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tereasa A-Here is the vid th-cam.com/video/Z-896fMbjqQ/w-d-xo.html where Brian describes their solar output. I don't believe they have added any panels since then. There are many vids of Delos sailing in the last year that clearly shows the twin wind generators. The demand for power is a function of the boats power requirements. On their first trip across the Indian Ocean Delos had 7 crew members, all equipped with laptop computers that were being used quite a bit for video editing, music creation, blogging, art design work, communication. In addition there were many notebooks, tablets, I phones. Delos communication, navigation, radar, weather forecasting, auto pilot, and battery chargers were 24 volt based. I believe on Delos the refrigerators, and freezers operate on 24 volts. Delos has a bank of 8 deep cycle batteries that require constant charging. In addition Delos lights and fans all are powered from the 24 volt system. The list goes on cause nasty old body waste is removed by electric toilets, and dishes, people and boat decks are washed by water driven by electric pumps. Sails and anchor chains are moved by electric motors. There are probably a couple more items I forgot. As Brian said, Delos is a very power hungry boat. I of course have no idea what the power requirements are on your boat. When I designed the solar charging system for my RV and again my boat I worked with experts at the company that I was purchasing my solar equipment from to determine my daily amperage needs and estimated wattage from panels. Fudge factors are required because a solar system only charges at a max rate when the sun in shining directly at the panels. That would typically be at noon of each day. Daily wattage production varies depending on the seasons, with commensurate loss when storm clouds block the sun. The experts also helped me in estimating use factors for water pumps, electric lights, furnace blower motors, auto pilots, and on and on. One needs to understand that there are efficiency losses at every step of the electron movement from the panels to the batteries, through the wires and so on. I did these systems many years ago and have forgotten much of the specifics, however I do remember that the total charging requirement for RV and boat was about 25% higher than my initial calculations. Another factor to take into consideration is the voltage system on your boat compared to Delos. If your boat has the very common 12 volt system instead of the 24 volt system on Delos, the solar panels would be giving only 500 watts at 24 volts. A google search for "boat solar calculator" will yield a number of sites that are probably clearer than my rambling explanation. Hope this has been of some benefit. Ray

    Hey Delos, Obviously, your in Brazil right now. Have your Caribbean plans changes considering what Hurricane Irma did? Needed cruiser infrastructure is pretty much gone for the foreseeable future in many of the leeward islands. While it would be really good for your audience to see all of that, are you guys still thinking of making that trip?

    Like a few others I experienced sound difficilties, but, it seemed to be coming from the rear of the crowd talking amongst themselves (very rude), but also what sounded like kitchen or restaurant noise cutting through the talk. A mild annoyance which just made me focus a little more.

    I very much liked the beer comment by Brian which was a little bit crushed. Too long ago when i was travelling you could not always keep your beers cold and the best beers proved to be the filtered beers. Best known in the world is Corona however there are so many more. You can drink that on any beach with or without a slice of lemon or fridge. The comment is even better than generally perceived. Many people judge and comment to beer that it is only good the colder it is. Which is really silly because the cold masks bad flavors and makes it only more easy to drink beer, which is not equal to good taste..

    Interesting where he said some countries don't even know you are there . I arrived in the USA last year at a port to a regatta event . There is a Video phone you are to check in at and no one answered . So I went and found a customs agent at the club - he could not check me in . So here I am wandering around the US an illegal desperately trying to not to be. Went had dinner then tried the phone again - took at least 15 tries before the most miserable guy ever answered .

    Why didnt Karen get a shot? I also noticed the crowd talked over her much more than they spoke over the guys. Not cool! 🙋‍♀️🤷‍♀️

      I'm more wondering what third wheel Brady was doing there, he looked so out of place.

      Women can multitask, and I think Brady is more of a girl than Karen, in terms of wanting to be seen and heard.

      huh? don't say stuff like that on here. Besides, I'm pretty sure someone mentioned the room was open to the larger restaurant, which explains why you heard plates and silverware and no one in the room had plates or silverware.

    Keep up the calm :-) What a rude audience ... especially to Karin.

      Sjur Gabriel she's using an Omni directional mic. As where the guys are using a unidirectional microphone. Hense the reason for the sound of the audience when she speaks.
