I was always told to not screw with terrain when creating bases - that eventually the terrain will refresh and anything removed with the terrain tool will pop back into its original placement.
You don't see many of these type of tutorials for NMS. Most are for sci fi or abstract stuff. I will be following this as soon as I get back in to NMS 👍
Just got into base building and this is honestly on of lthe things I needed the most. A very nice introduction to the mechanics and using some of the more advanced techniques slowly introduced. Excited to watch the future parts.
The thing I hate in this system is precisely the free placement. It's impossible to obtain alignments and design desired positions. The snapping system should have MUCH more options and freedom. It's been years I've been dissuaded to build extensive bases because of this and years it doesn't change, sadly, not even by mods.
@@roamingspacecat it's absolutely possible to make great things, of course, but being a player since day 1 I'm baffled the system hasn't been vastly improved, or at least modded for positionning. I find myself considering using the save editor to edit furniture positionning, which, ironically, can be faster for things like perfect circles and such 😅
They need to go mess around with the forge mode in Halo Reach and add the precision nudge and rotate tool that game had. Get it close manually and go into the menu and set your nude distance all the way day to .1. You could also set the amount of degrees to rotate on the axis. They also had an option to phase objects together. Reach forge was years ahead of its time.
Should just allow direct input of X,Y,Z coordinates. Sure, that would be cumbersome on a controller but for the players that need that level of precision, I doubt tapping a few buttons on a calculator-style pad in the UI would be that problematic to them.
Is it a good idea to do any kind of terrain manipulation in this game ?From my experience the game always resets the terrain after I launch the game and it ends up glitching through my buildings.
The later updates seem to have stabilized that issue. I find that as long as your terrain edits remain in the "sphere" of allowable building placement, they are usually fine. Use the build camera to find out where those boundaries lie, and keep your terrain edits within that. Also, don't edit too much underground terrain - that's where I see a lot of issues arising.
@mimic4844 the concrete build set is from the Legacy structures. I believe you unlocked them via the early days of the Space Anomaly when NMS was first ported to Xbox. Can't quite remember exactly how, though. The only way to get those pieces now is through using a save editor. If you're on PC
@@smidon The concrete build parts are legacy parts and no longer attainable on saves started after the Foundations update. If you are on PC you can use a save editor to attain the legacy parts.

@grimskulltv7653 they are from a building set called Legacy, which was available way back in the early days of the Anomaly. Unfortunately, you can only get them now by using a save editor. I'm not sure why they made the choice to pull them from the game.
I find if you stay within the build area, and only do minimal edits to the terrain, that it isn't a problem. Raising your buildings with the walls does work too, but it uses up pieces for your base count limit.
It's a bad idea to mess with the terrain. Learn to work with the terrain instead of modifying it. I usually use either the stone wall pieces as a foundation, or the wooden arches. and then lay floors on top of that to give myself a nice flat area to work with.

I have to say that I agree with you there. With 'tutorial' in the video title, a number of people watching this video won't have access to those parts. This makes the video much more confusing. It either needs to be stated clearly at the beginning of the video that parts used are not available any longer or use current build parts and comment on legacy part substitutions rather than the way it is done in the video currently.

How did you get that view when building? My character blocks my view when I'm trying to place objects.
@realplu you can switch the build camera to free look. On Xbox, it's done by pressing down on the left joystick.
Nice.
How do you get that point of view when building? I'm always stuck in normal gaming mode

Good tutorial! Are there any disadvantages to using short segents? Would it consume more resources?
@diverspudph1310 each piece counts towards your total base limit. But the advantage of the short pieces is that you can open up more areas to snap to
