  • Amazon. No company has impacted the internet - and all of modern life - more than this one. We’ve waited seven years to do this episode, and are so, so excited to finally dive into every nook and cranny of this legendary company. And of course because we’re Acquired and this is Amazon, we couldn’t contain it all to just one episode… even a 4+ hour one! So today we focus on Amazon.com the retail business, and we’ll have another full episode on AWS coming soon. And because all great series are trilogies, to fully understand Amazon we highly recommend starting first with our previous episode on Walmart, which truly is the giant’s shoulder that Jeff Bezos stood upon. Let’s go!!

A suggestion, while taking names of companies, people, places you can include photos of those people or places or companies logo, it will become more immersive, and will be helpful in shorts as well.

Very grateful for the Walmart setup before this. After both of brad’s books and reading all the shareholder letters and assorted Jeff talks in “invent and wander” I wasn’t sure how much new info there would be in this - but y’all crushed it, great Barnes and noble snippets and discussion of Amazon’s “float”

Two interesting points I learned about Bezos from this podcast
    (1) Bezos became billionaire first because of Google then later from Amazon: Bezos' connection to Ram Shriram led to Bezos investing a $250K in Google, turning into $230M at the 2004 IPO.
    (2) Bezos' grandfather worked in nuclear energy, and I assume that his wealth 25K acres, provided a safety net for Bezos to quit his job and start Amazon.

One thing i have seen over the past couple years in traveling around the US is that Amazon is still putting in fulfillment centers all over the place yet. I wonder how close they are to being happy with the number of FCs they have around the country?

@acquired Amazing stuff!!!! Is truly enjoyable every time I listen to your episodes. Quick question at 2:20:18 you mentioned someone called "Greg London" or "Greg Lyndon", I'm really interested in learning more about this as I'm developing an auction web3 platform and every detail to learn for me is super interesting. I'd greatly appreciate to receive that clarification! Thank you guys! Keep doing your thing!!! Luciano here, from Buenos Aires, Argentina ✊🏼

Good question! It's a ton of work to produce on a tight turnaround, so we've been prioritizing ones that are more visually interesting (i.e. live show, or when we're in the same room as a guest recording).
