  • In this video, I review Stoic knee sleeves. Do I like them? Would I suggest purchasing them? How do they compare to the knee sleeves I have worn in the past?

Alan Thrall so...this video. That popped up as an ad, has an affiliate link, and is a paid advertisement. So it’s a commercial. But no where does it say that. Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool. No doubt, no doubt, no doubt.

You dont need sleeves but I would definitely recommend wearing some when it's cold in the gym. you tend to get more joint problems at low temperatures, sleeves can prevent these problems by keeping your joints warm

I don't have anything earth-shattering to say, other than to thank you for your videos. I just turned 49 and I've been hitting the gym regularly now for a little over a year (Crossfit). Your videos have been extremely helpful and entertaining. Don't get me wrong, the coaches in my gym are very helpful and knowledgeable, but it's always nice to watch one of your videos that reinforces what I've already learned or, sometimes, shows me a different technique or perspective for the same movement.
At any rate, thank you for all your time and effort to blindly teach all of those who are willing to learn.

Interesting video I've been wearing xs stoic sleeves and at first we're really tough to get on but after a couple of weeks of wearing are pretty easy to slip on. They are good not extremely tight like a wrap just good support. I'm 5'3 117 for reference.

I like knee sleeves for squats because the material bunching up behind the knee helps stop me from going way too deep. I've personally noticed I tend to sink my squats too deep without sleeves. That's why I like them

Have both. Honestly, SBD is better but I can see people going for Stoics cause it saves lot of money. You can't go wrong with either but if you have the money, get the SBD. I have decent sized calves and my recommended SBD size was large. Of course I downsized to medium and I can still fit it with little to no struggle. You just gotta pull that shit up! Not a fan of STrong.

I know this is an old video...but Alan if you get a second can you answer a quick question? What would happen if you rotated the Stoic sleeves so that the seam was on the side like the Strong sleeves? It seems like that would solve the issue with the seam in the back. Of course the logo would then be on the outside which should still look cool!

Jakob Mayr Maybe I’ll have to go back and watch his older videos. Would be good if he could do a pros and cons one like this where he takes a moment to talk about it fully and in depth. (If he hasn’t already)

no he hasnt but I can tell you recovery is 99.9 percent Food and Sleep and how you manage your Training. The 0.1 percent is Things like foam rolling, massages, contrast showers… so basically it will not be worth the invested time unless you are a professional athlete. Also if you wanna foam roll for mobility for example you cant get a proper squat or have a Little butt wink when squatting and now you think ok I Need to roll out my glutes thats wrong. This will only help a bit at best whats gonna be better is spending more time squatting, doing other exercises that may improve the Problem like front squats etc. or Fixing your technique. See your Goal in the gym is to get stronger and bigger Right? Than you should spend your time there to lift heavy weights not rolling out your muscles or doing static stretches for 15 mins when its not even neccessary. Is your Goal to be more mobile than go ahead stretch and foam roll but its just not worth the time Investment if you wanna get stronger. That btw is also what Alan preaches nowadays and go on the barbell Medicine channel to see dr Jordan Feigenbaum talk About this.

Most of the literature suggests it is worthless in a warm up, and doesn't affect athletic performance no matter how or when you employ it. However some people get a measure of pain relief from it (I am one of those people). I don't do it all the time, just if something feels especially knotty. It could even be placebo... you know... since I think it helps with painful knots or unusual stiffness, it does. Feels good to me, so I do it in the evening when I hurt extra. Helps me sleep (or maybe I only think it does). But as far as performance is concerned, there's no evidence it does anything.

I had a knee surgery a few years back for a torn lateral meniscus, which caused me to get osteoarthritis. After doing physical therapy and was able to squat again, I started from the basics, and foam roll everyday. Foam rollers are amazing for relieving tight spots, and mobility issues. I would definitely recommend using them prior to exercises.
