  • My first bottle from the house of Papillon, and certainly wont be my last. There really was no other consideration for scent of the month, easily the most memorable thing i wore in May.
i neglected to really talk about performance in this review, but can confirm here that i still detect this on my skin well past the 8 hour mark. Very good projection for the first couple.

Just got Salome and have been sampling for the past few days. It’s really beautiful, buttery and spicy. Upon first smelling, I thought it smelled just like Chypre Siam! But now that I’ve smelled them side by side, I can find all the distinctions. Now trying to decide between one or the other.

Salome is slowly sinking her tendrils into me each time I wear it. Initially, I was a bit put off with some aspects of it ... jasmine is a note which can be a little hit and miss for me and can also be a little bit headachey as well. Salome doesn't do that thankfully. It does have a subtle pissiness to it which I found offputting initially as well, so by all accounts this scent should probably be a no for me, however the more I am wearing it the more I am fascinated by it. I have sampled the line and love what Liz is doing and given the notes of Bengale Rouge I will be really excited to try that later in the year💜

I just got Francesca's Under My Skin and I was thinking this may be in a similar vein. I don't like citrus, but I do like indolics and castoreum. Will have to send for a sample of this some time.

Citrus is not prominent, just adds some brightness in the opening. I dont find them similar as this doesn't have UMS's prominent orris and leather

Great one Pep! This is one which I own a decant but I don't think I will need a FB (its more mood and reference for me). It does intrigue me to seek out the vintages whenever i get an opportunity. I have my eyes on Bal de Versailles. I know Kafkaesque mentioned some vintages in her Salome review so i need to cross reference with that.

I have this one. You described it well! I also feel that it’s more floral than animalic.

Awe man I just discovered this one. I bought a 8ml decant from MaxAroma and WOW, I love it. I have a few other perfumes from this house but I never had a chance to try this one as the 8ml sizes were always sold out. And I wanted to sample first. To me, 2ml is NOT a sample. I need at least 8-10ml. I need to wear it for at least 2 weeks to decide if I really want to add it to my crazy collection. I have way too many Niche perfumes. One day I decided to ONLY keep 100. THATS all. Well, I couldn’t do it. I could do 150 and sell or give the rest away. 150 is CRAZY. I will never be able wear them all in my life time.

As much as I love this one, it just doesn’t last long. After an hour it’s a skin scent. Still…it’s beautiful.
Edit: I dont know what happened, maybe it macerated because I wore it again this week and wow it lasted all day. I actually bought 4 other fragrances from this house. I love them all too. I need to buy 2 back ups of this beauty. It’s sooo good. I can’t stop smelling my wrist.

Nice review, I like your way of being personal about this fragrance. What amazes me most is how it is so beautifully integrated and balanced. It is just perfectly executed. Not a mood scent for me at all, but something to love and admire.
When you like Salome, you might like Tropic of Capricorn (Orchid Scents) and Moth (Zoologist). In fact, I think these three form a triangle, perhaps even a continuum, with Tropic the most outgoing, Moth the most drawn-in, and Salome in the middle.
Note-wise, I find these three to be somewhat similar. However, Salome opens a bit fresher and fruitier than Moth, but not with as much Mango as Tropic. (In fact, I think what you describe as flowers on the point of tipping over for me reads like overripe Mango.) The florals in Salome are tempered by leather, but not to the point of going flat and matte as in Moth. Although Salome comes over more animalic than either of the two others, that aspect is also much better integrated, while Tropic of Capricorn is rather extrovertedly sexy. The sweetness in Moth is more pronounced than in Salome, and it is honey - so that makes Moth more of a comfort scent, especially because the honey is combined with smoke, sort of a cabin-log scent, very cozy. Salome has smoke, too, but it's more of an incense-type, mysterious affair. Moth swirls around you even more than Salome in an enveloping way , while Tropic is more teasing.
I am much taken with all three of these perfumes.

Not sure of your name?... but your reviews are pretty spot on 👍 Worn on skin this stays Animalic on me for quite a long time , but on clothing it goes more white floral musk ...I make sure to get both when I wear it . The orange I think you smell is what I get from Terr’e d Hermes / aged orange peel? Very impressed with this fragrance and your reviews , thanks

Arriving very late, but was looking for reviews of this perfume that has surprised me so much. It is so interesting! I do not smell animalic notes either, and was really wary of trying it with the descriptions of "animalic bomb", "skankiest perfume ever" etc To me it just smells amazing, like beautifully perfumed skin. I truly love this. I get the spicy jasmine most with a slight smoke, and the jasmine is the best I have ever smelt.
It worries me that people might perceive skank when they smell me (looking at fragrantica reviews) so maybe I won't wear this to work :)
