As for the accuracy, I haven't ever had an issue taking a lot of small game with either the older Cooey/Winchester or the new Savage. This is also still made in Canada, out of steel-not plastic, zinc or some alluminium alloy.
I completely agree! He sounds like he got fired from a secretary job at savage! I’ve got a 1022 take down, marlin papoose take down and just bought a Savage 64 take down and buy farthest savage is the easiest and fastest to take down. The Marlin and the 64 also hold their zero much better after being taken down and put back together! The 1022 you pretty much have to Re-ZERO every time you take it apart.
WOW, yes! He shoots 10 rounds then switches to a different ammo, then says it's not accurate! It takes 10 rounds to season the bore, the next 5 is where you'll see how accurate a gun/barrel is. I'm surprised I watched the rest of the video.

I'm used to military rifles which are designed to be field stripped and cleaned very easily. So disassembly to access the bolt is definitely more than I'm accustomed or spoilt to. But seeing it done here once was enough to get it apart and back together. I also think Savage could have stuck to less types and sizes of screws. I don't think I'll do a full disassembly for every 50 rounds, probably just brushing and oiling will suffice. I found the magazine release very stiff and hard to use as described. I removed some of the tension off the spring which engages the magazine catch, and found that the magazine is still as secure (same amount of wobble and play...). I was also happy to see that the latch was metal and not plastic. I think it's very well built. I don't have any ridiculous accessory plans for the rifle and will probably just find some more 10 round magazines. As for the front sight, I just used an orange paint pen on it, and will probably use a different color on the rear.
dude... I just bought one of these on a whim, like "hey I want a .22, why not?" (probably should of done more research into alternatives in hindsight). I had so many questions when I got it and found little information on this specific model, until now. This video here just answered all of my questions! Thank you good sir!
This is one of the best reviews of this rifle on TH-cam you did a very good job simplifying the breakdown of the components... I have had one for a few years now I have found that if you use a pair of vice grips to tighten the barrel nut good and tight I've gotten great accuracy. On a side note there are 20 round magazines available now I bought two of them. And regretted it immediately neither one will work properly until there's less than 10 rounds in the magazine so virtually a 10-round magazine. I've done everything I could think of and everything I've seen online to try to make them reliable. Over 10 rounds they're not
I was able to hit the iron chicken, and the 2 1/2 post next to it from 200 yards. Rapidly firing from 200 yds straight out of the box. However I did have problems with it jamming up after 200 rounds.
Reminds me of my old Marlin Papoose. The Papoose comes with a spanner wrench if you want to get the barrel super tight I never use it. Hope the savage holds up as well as my Marlin.
I found with my Papoose that if I shot it a LOT (200 rounds or so), the barrel nut would loosen if it was only hand tightened initially. Anyhoo, this guy holds through a couple hundred rounds at least.
Have you had any issues with the magazine and/or feeding ramp jamming/not cycling etc? i have the same rifle and it already started giving me issue...Savage 64's are known for these issue...
I just found your video. I have one and I like it. It shoots nice. But the ejector screw does come loose on them. I had that happen. Thanks for the video.
The Norinco JW takedown (clone of the Browning takedown) is a much better budget option. Accurate, tube fed so no magazine to lose in the pack or the woods, super light, proven design. I have both and I prefer the Norinco.
Thanks for the review. Question on the mounts. The Weaver mounts are much less than a full rail from other companies. I am planning on mounting just a red dot sight. Would you say that the single weaver mount in the back both will secure the sight enough and also be in a good spot on this gun? Thanks!
For under 200 CA $ it is steal. Take all type of ammo. Grouping is 1.5 MOA at 25 yard for 5 shot group . Only issue are sights as u can not 0 with them , i couldnt . But then put 4x fix scope and now its good

Adriel you are right on the mark! Jeez,..what a let down from Savage when I received my 64 Takedown. That old fashioned and very poorly designed and built magazine has GOT to be THEE worst .22 magazine I have ever had the misfortune to try to use, and I have been shooting with rimfire .22 rifles for 'eons' . Thankfully I bought mine for less than $250CAD all in, so I was mostly disappointed with Savage's weak 'excuse' of a take down rifle. Adriel is correct that Uncle Mike's bag is so very poor for this 'toy'. It's sloppy, it's loose, it doe NOT offer proper protecting for ANYTHING inside it. But the biggest complaint I have with Savage is that they are STILL using those CHEAPLY made magazines that cause constant miss-fires. Why, I wonder does Savage still use these when they could have used the curved ( banana style ) magazine, which allows the rimfire rounds to feed far more easily. I took my 'new' 64 Takedown to the range, tried to shoot with it, brought it home and tossed it onto the floor of the safe, and left it there. What a piece of junk! My suggestion!.....buy a Chiappa Little Badger,..at least it's WAY more accurate and it shoots every single time!
Chiappa has a reputation of being junk. I wouldn't buy one of their levers, but I did buy a little badger. Paid like $200 canadian taxes in on sale for an actual functional firearm in 2023 LMAO. It's not for everyone but I don't regret buying the little badger. I saw a wood stock one in a store for I think like $280 and thought about it.

I have one of their R92' in .38 spl / 357 and it is working like a lever action carbine should, I also have a Chiappa LA332 Kodiak, it too is a very nice lever action .22 LR . Never had a hitch with this one either. No, I am not saying that other's haven't had issues, but I do know that my Chiapps are money well spent, and yes, I'd buy another.
The price is great but they should have polished the quality a bit more without including the bag. I'll be trying a Winchester Wildcat instead or maybe buckle and get a 10/22 like everyone else.

Practically, no. But if you were really dumb and you held a round against the breech face, and held the bolt at just the right spot as you pulled the trigger, you might be able to get a round to go off and mess up your fingers.

Sorry, but this review makes critical mistakes and makes me question if you have any basic firearms knowledge. The elevation adjustment on the rear sight is nothing to do with compensating for distance. That is your elevation adjustment for zeroing the iron sights. I can't believe you didn't know this. You are also incorrect when saying that the front sight should be drifted for windage. You will almost certainly snap it off. If a windage adjustment is necessary, it is the REAR sight that must be drifted left or right. This is Iron Sights 101 information.
You don't like the case? It's not accurate? It's cheap, looks cheap and bla, bla, bla. Methinks thou doth complain too much! The rifles not innacurate, you're a lousy shot! For the price point it's a perfectly capable.
I see a lot of these comments on my videos. Usually, it's because the person owns the gun, lacks perspective with how the gun compares to others, and they think there can't be anything wrong with it, even a cheaper gun where they had to cut corners. Since you say it's accurate, try this out: take a 5 spot target, put it at 50 meters, and take 5 shots at each spot. At the end, you should have 25 shots on paper in 5 different groups, and some really good data on what kind of accuracy the gun can perform reliably. An excellent 22LR rifle with good ammo and with a good shooter will put all 5 groups into 1/2". A decent 22LR will put them into 3/4". This rifle is usually doing 1"+ groups. Try it yourself and let us know how it goes.
I have one with an electronic sight, and trust me, nothing you said means anything to me. Mine is only for killing/wounding intruders. My rifle is more accurate than the one you have, but who cares.
worst gun ive ever purchased. Barrel wouldnt come off right out of box. No biggie, its for plinking. I have fired maybe 100 rounds through it but have yet to make it through a magazine without failure(my MK4 chews through CCI mini mag). Put it away and finally gave it another chance. Couldnt get through 3 10 round mags i brought. Could only fire 1 round and follow up round wouldnt see in chamber/bolt wouldnt seed. $200 paper weight now.
We had the same problem the first time at the range.We took it home and field stripped the rifle.Next time to the range it really worked great.We find that we have to field strip the rifle about every 500 hundred rounds.It does not cycle hollow points very well.40 grain copper jacketed ammo or 40 grain leaded round nose ammo works great.As far as accuracy it is a very accurate shooter.We have owned ours for 7 years and it has been a lot of fun to shoot.

Whatever you do, don’t rest the rifle on the mag while shooting. My wife did it and it wore away the feed lips on the mag.
I have found that I get feed problems if pressure is put on the magazine

It is not as good as 4x expensive ruger takedown . But 10/22 is not 4x price better then savage 64 takedown too
