    Great video. I purchased my savage 64 , 8 years ago at local Big 5. Then it was $179. Plus tax. Anyway, at first range shooting I had problems. The magazine that came with it and a second one I purchased were faulty. At first I thought I bought un-usable rifle. After first shot, it was failure to eject. Then F.T.Fire happened. After a few finally cycled,the base plate on the magazine mysteriously came completely off magazine and remaining ammunition dropped out of magazine. Yea, it was a bad day for me at the range with my new savage 64. Fortunately I had my second firearm ( Walther P22) to finish at least some target shooting. After getting home I did some research on the savage 64 and found a few others who had maybe got same batch of magazines with similar failures. So I followed some modifications tips , filing off sharp edges, sanding loading area of surfaces on magazines with a round file and fine grit mini flat files. And I semi permanently hot glued base plate onto one of the magazines.And it WORKED!! Absolutely, it was possibly the loading ramp on each that didn't get attention before being sold to public. Now it'll shoot every .22 LR ammo I've tried in it.

    Excellent video, Rob. My 62f is a great shooting rifle. I changed the tiny factory bolt handle to an extended bolt handle, and also changed the tiny mag release button to an extended magazine release. That adds another $45 or so to the cost of the rifle, but makes it MUCH more pleasant to shoot. I usually use Federal Automatch and get good, consistent results. Pleasantly surprised that the 62f appeared to be at least as accurate as the Ruger 10/22. Keep up the good work!

    I have the exact same set up.( 62F and 3x9x32 Baraska scope ). Got them at Walmart last summer,paid $114.00 for the Savage and about $32.00 for the scope (plus tax).Reliable and accurate rifle. All steel receiver and barrel is a plus.

      It is hard to beat this gun for the money. I put a m carbo spring kit in mine and it did help the trigger quite a bit. It's still not great but it helps. And that is the one downfall of this rifle as it doesn't have the greatest trigger in the world. But it can be improved upon a little

    I own both and agree, put decent glass on the savage, $100 scope on $100 rifle and amazing results. It's more accurate than both of my ruger 10/22's . I believe it's more accurate because the barrel lenght and the fact that's it's free floating, 21.5 in free float , vs 16in non free floating. Not surprising the savage is more accurate.

    I have the Mark ii f with the accutrigger and it is very accurate.
    Stackin em outa the box accurate.
    I think it wears a Barska as well.
    And yeah, I had to work on the barrel of my 3x the cost Ruger American Rimfire 22 when I first got it. Ruger said my accuracy was within their tolerance and denied my return for service, so I reworked the crown myself.
    If you throw a Marlin 795 into the mix that would make it interesting.

    The Ruger 10-22 has the advantage when it comes to simpler disassembly and cleaning. I have a 10-22 but my favorite 22 LR rifle is the Savage Mark 2 bolt action rifle. Very easy to remove the bolt and clean the rifle thoroughly, then put it back. No tools required and there are no parts to lose. Thanks for the video.

    I really like this video! I don't do videos but thought about it many times to demonstrate that out of all my 22s, my Browning BLR is the least accurate and it's my most expensive. My ruger 10/22 is slightly more accurate than the Browning but my savage rifles are the most accurate. My mark II is the best followed by my model 29A, which was my grandfather's.

    Great video, thank you. I have both of these rifles too.I love my Ruger 10/22 as it is in my view, a gun cabinet staple but that being said my little Savage is a bang on accurate rifle that hits more on target than my Ruger. I have a simple trimag setup for the 30 round availability and my Savage just has two pairs of the 10 rounder taped together. It’s not the prettiest thing but it works for me. Do you find the receiver on the Savage kind of a punky thin metal with easy to strip hardware? My only complaint of it.

  • @rockogawky5982
    @rockogawky5982 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I bought my Savage in 2022 at Big 5 for $165 it came with a Tasco scope. The point where the Ruger is ahead is the availability of magazines.

  • @rdanpauley1992
    @rdanpauley1992 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Accuracy tip, Press and hold the trigger rather than stab and release. Make resetting the trigger part of the next shot. I like the accuracy of the Savage but abso-bloom'n-lootly HATE the magazine change requiring two hands. The Savage trigger is better from the factory and there are inexpensive aftermarket (MCARBO) spring kits to make even better. While the 10-22 is the gold standard in cheap & easy 22LR. They are no longer cheap. I'd give the Ruger the nod only because there are so many accessories available. Shamefully a new BX trigger is just about required to make it acceptable. Another nod to the savage is the dovetail receiver. Optics on a ruger are almost always too High and hard to get the scope far enough away for proper eye relief in prone position. Nod goes to the ruger for easy one hand drop free mag.

      Savage definitely makes some good guns, and they're very accurate and mostly reasonable price

    I have never owned a 10/22, I just do not like the rotary magazine. I really like Savage 22s. I can't warm up to their newer rotary mag rifles, though. Maybe I am unrealistic about it but is a personal preference. I still like my Marlin Model 60 as well.

      That's the great thing about different manufacturers none of us like all the same features on all guns. It's good to have variety. Nothing wrong with liking your standard magazine that have been proven to work for decades. Thanks for watching

      I’m just curious but what do you not like about the rotary mags? I’m just curious because I have shot lots of both and never even thought about it until now, lol. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure Savage invented the rotary magazine.

    I think the savage is a better made gun and more accurate than a 10 22 ruger quality has went down hill

    Eh take this with a grain of salt. Ive owned both now i have two ruger 10-22 both of mine have better accuracy than that. My 64 was about as accurate. The ruger trigger 100 times better.

    Ruger isn’t charging you more for fun. The 10/22 is bombproof. My oldest 10/22 is 34yrs old. Doubt the savage will still be a gun in 34 years. Usually you get what you pay for.
