Compare this interview to the Letterman shows...holy shit he's grown up (in a sense). People probably didn't even think the guy could hold a professional conversation for longer than five minutes based on the early shit, but this is some real effort on his part in raising attention to his work. Bravo, Harmful.
Spring Breakers and Enter The Void actually have their cinematographer in common, Benoît Debie, which makes total sense as they share a very similar aesthetic.
I see this as "Kids (1995)" the remake. The soul is possibly about the inner ecstasy that all teens/young adults are too scared of trying. The soul could be the personality of these people involving themselves with illicit acts too.
He did a Q and A after a screening at the Gene Siskel center a couple years ago, and he is by far the most interesting filmmaker I've ever heard when it comes to his work. In this interview he mentions "It's all perfect", which is something he said at the Trash Humpers Q and A. It's a simple description of his mindset of completely isolating himself from criticism or fear of not being understood.
He was in his early 20s when he was a guest on Letterman. The one where he talks about making the Titanic sequel on a rowboat is classic... not sure if he was high or just trolling (or both). Hard to believe he's 40 now.
the fact that selena, and the other more innocent stars were chosen for this film.... is absolutely genius. genius before the camera even begins rolling.
i'm interested in what he means about it exploring the "soul" of the new generation, as i'm curious about that too. what he sees in gomez is beyond me.. and their very union is something conjured up in weirded-out, bizzaro-type dream, but that's harmony fo ya! i;m now looking forward to it
I love Harmony Korine's films. And you won't hear that from many 14 year olds. I did like Selena Gomez on Disney, but Jesus we all have to grow up sometime.
YOU JUST DONT GET IT. people that respect his work.... and are actually knowledgeable about GOOD film work.. will be putting his work, and THIS film in particular, on a huge pedestal. besides, people already hold his past work... so SO high.
"his art is beyond wise. People that have a taste for it... have that taste because they understand the meaning: simplistic vulgar beauty of the REAL word. it's beautiful.".That is hands down the most delusional thing ive ever read .Let's keep things in their proper context .Art is about creating not taking existing materials and put their own personal spin on it .Which is what most film makers do indie and mainstream.Just because they are indie doesnt mean they are artistic
Give yourself another five years and watch it again, methinks you're probably too young to get it now. I know I sound like a pretentious hipster, but if you seriously can't grasp the basic point of the film, come back to it after a few years and give it another shot. I mean this in a sincere, non-douchey way.
One friend of mine dismissed completely the first time we saw it. I thought it was fine. A fluor phantasy of sorts, very engageing and prescient, but didn't acknowledge the dephts of it. I sort of felt it though. Watch it again yesterday, out of a very frustated day, thinking along the lines you've pointed out in your coment. It must've been 5 years if not more since the first time. You were right. I'm not getting into the analitical phraseology, but this time around not only I felt the cultural and epochal atmosphere of the film, but get to follow some of the cues that enlarge the understanding of it's anthropological magnitude. It's a deep film.
@@HHCronikO i've seen the film about 20 times now. Every time I see it I re-realize just how good the film is. Like he mentions about the "feeling" the fluid narrative is so well done it feels genuinely like a movie lost in time and space, but the story REMAINS cohesive and clearly understandable as a set of events happening through time. Many movies typically fail at this... normally in the form of trope-y dream sequences and flash backs. I'm glad you liked the film. I've seen maybe a thousand movies in my life-time and Springbreakers to this day remains in my top 5 favorite films of all time. I try to recommend it when i can.
Well, I don't think it's the ditzyness. I think it's the presence they give. They look innocent, yet their characters end up going wild. Something you wouldn't expect from possibly the first scene of the movie? I don't know. I still stand by what I said && don't judge the movie before it even came out. -.-
I've been reaaaally nervous about this movie for a while, but it looks like he's got the same core values as he's had with his other films. My inner hipster hopes that the exploitation of pop culture doesn't cause this movie to dwarf his others, but I should probably just shut up and watch the movie like everybody else and be happy for him if it gets him lots of attention.
Is this the same guy that appeared totally spaced out during his appearances on Letterman?! Here he looks and sounds "normal" . Must have matured plenty during the intervening years. But wow! Talk about Jekyll and Hide!
Okay. So, basically you're standards for actors/actresses are REALLY HIGH? Because I think they actually casted the PERFECT cast. I can't see anyone else really taking their roles, tbh. But too each his own. Can't really argue with you on your own opinion. :)
When I watched this movie yesterday it was like watching Enter the Void again ^^ I felt like I was on drugs or something ... It's not as great as Noe's film but still pretty good.
I hope to God that the casting of this project was more ironic than serious. If Harmony Korine wasn't responsible for writing/directing, I would never spend money or time watching a movie with Selena fucking Gomez in it.
If they wanted to choose four ditzy girls, they sure nailed it. I could actually imagine a lot of other, more accomplished actresses, but since Korrine is an independent filmmaker, he probably couldn't afford to pay them.
Selena is a great actress. Well on her show she was. Never seen her outside of Disney, so it'll be a watch. Same with Ashley. Vanessa... Not so much. -.- I haven't seen any other movies she played in, so can't judge that. && Rachel. She's not even a disney star. Is she? So, I think you should just watch the movie before jumping to harsh conclusions. Plus, I think he choose these girls for their innocent looks and popularity (Besides Rachel) not their acting skills.
And you say you have seen his other films. It's about who they are not how they look. He took two of the most typecast disney bitches of all time and hes going to destroy their innocence in front of a massive audience.
From what i've seen from clips of this film i could see where the kids comparison comes into play. The thing with Kids in my opinion is that it came out with perfect timing i remember being in 6th grade. All my friends kept telling me about Kids and that i should watch it .I checked it out it was shocking no doubt because it was different that was about all it was.If Springbreakers is anything like kids its going to flop i think the fact that put familiar faces in it is going to help.
You're right, that was a bit pretentious of me. But still, love Korine, not so sure about the cast. Like, not at all. I have low expectations for this movie D:
You just said that he chose them for their "innocent looks and popularity", so it just proves my original comment. And none of them are very good, to be quite honest. I'll probably watch the movie, but I'll bet it will disappoint.
Not by much though ,Kids was a good dateline story turned into a movie so much time as lasped since then.Movies like kids today is nothing new i like james franco ill probably check this movie out with my finger on the fast forward button. If it's anything like kids rest assured you can already perdict whats going to happen within the first few minutes .
"the most delusional thing" you've ever read? I can't imagine you read much then kiddo. As for your bizarre view about 'what art is', just know that pretty much every artist that has ever lived would disagree with you. Also clearly you don't watch many films.
his past work sucked ive seen it all these people who think hes a good writer and film maker are delusional.I'll admit it's and acquired taste but a very poor taste at that im sure the majority of people who like his work. Are fan boys his work is very amateurish styled .He goes more for trying to shock peoples senses which is similar to a cheap thrill .It gets old real fast and is the signature of a rising filmmaker/writer .Definitely not a professional
When Harmony was talking about his films it nearly brought me to tears. True and honest art.
Compare this interview to the Letterman shows...holy shit he's grown up (in a sense). People probably didn't even think the guy could hold a professional conversation for longer than five minutes based on the early shit, but this is some real effort on his part in raising attention to his work. Bravo, Harmful.
Adore this movie! "Springbreak....springbreak.....springbreak forever...."
Spring Breakers and Enter The Void actually have their cinematographer in common, Benoît Debie, which makes total sense as they share a very similar aesthetic.
His films are strangely beautiful and does affect people in a new way and that is fascinating, I am glad to have him from my generation
"They're gonna love this shit... All those Disney fans." LMFAO.
I see this as "Kids (1995)" the remake. The soul is possibly about the inner ecstasy that all teens/young adults are too scared of trying. The soul could be the personality of these people involving themselves with illicit acts too.
Just no.

I actually liked Enter the Void though.. although I will admit, this is Harmony's most likeable films as far as the visuals.
Gone Coltrane hey man enter the void was actually a gaspsr noe film. His a sick filmmaker to check him out!
He's passionate and truthful, I hope the film succeeds in pushing the form forward.
the fact that selena, and the other more innocent stars were chosen for this film.... is absolutely genius. genius before the camera even begins rolling.
It nearly brought you to tears because of the stench that is this mans films ????
i love selena's smile
HAHAH THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER when he explains about actually filming in the hood his eyes light up at the end.
i'm interested in what he means about it exploring the "soul" of the new generation, as i'm curious about that too. what he sees in gomez is beyond me.. and their very union is something conjured up in weirded-out, bizzaro-type dream, but that's harmony fo ya! i;m now looking forward to it

Need to watch this in at the cinema just to see how many people walk out.
I like how Selena was all up on him
I think it's great how many of the people aren't really acting, they're being themselves (the gangsters lol)!!
YOU JUST DONT GET IT. people that respect his work.... and are actually knowledgeable about GOOD film work.. will be putting his work, and THIS film in particular, on a huge pedestal. besides, people already hold his past work... so SO high.

Harmony is the fuckin man.
Yes, please take this time for Nationalistic Disney Competition. We totally don't have enough of it in the 'indie" world. #teamgallo

Hahahaaa, they're gonna love this shit....all those Disney fans......PRICELESS.
Selena!! I love you Selena. *-*
#teamkorine best director eeeeeever!!
Is this the same guy that appeared totally spaced out during his appearances on Letterman?!
Here he looks and sounds "normal" . Must have matured plenty during the intervening years.
But wow! Talk about Jekyll and Hide!
The point is that he wants to have attractive women play the lead characters so that men will go see it.
I think that was a quote from the film Gummo.
i like how they put this together :)
he kind of change his name by Harmful Korine, lol
Selena is just a lovely girl.
IM JUST LOOKING AT SELENA GOMEZ
sorry for my spelling. im on a tablet
I love this comment so much
Girls in bikines on masks …you got love Harmony Korine lmao..I just can not wait to watch this
So, is this just "Kids (1995)" the remake?
he is such an adult now
Selena was so digging on him go harmony
I gotta say this is really interesting culturally. So funny to see obvious Selena Gomez etc. fans commenting on this video.

Okay. So, basically you're standards for actors/actresses are REALLY HIGH? Because I think they actually casted the PERFECT cast. I can't see anyone else really taking their roles, tbh. But too each his own. Can't really argue with you on your own opinion. :)

this guy needs to come back to reality... lmbo.
TEAM HARMONY!!
Not only you! :)
@beautys00 obvi youve never seen any of His movies.
And one of the actresses is his wife
Selena is a great actress. Well on her show she was. Never seen her outside of Disney, so it'll be a watch. Same with Ashley. Vanessa... 2:26 Selena laughing OMG sooo cute
UMSHINI WAM!
He used them as a part of the movie for a reason. did youw watch it? it makes sense. jesus some peoplea re afpvahewp rqc3prhcy
I thought I'd never see Selena Gomez sitting next to Harmony Korine. That's like Justin Bieber sitting next to Werner Herzog.
And you say you have seen his other films. It's about who they are not how they look. He took two of the most typecast disney bitches of all time and hes going to destroy their innocence in front of a massive audience.
So i'm guessing this is going to be nothing like Gummo...
It seems that him and Noe are good buddies... here they are hanging out for a day watch?v=2CAPlaO110w
Gomez Addams is in this!? Fuuuck.
@Russ
This guy's name is really Harmony?? Poor him...
Good on korine for having gomez, really sparks the popularity. but because of her it'll be shit
/sigh
why korine why
You just said that he chose them for their "innocent looks and popularity", so it just proves my original comment. And none of them are very good, to be quite honest. I'll probably watch the movie, but I'll bet it will disappoint.
on dirait sa mère Mandy :o
Funny
I believe you're missing the point.
no.
she sits behind him. just saying. so it looks like it
Me too and this video made me feel sad... Mayans were right: The World is Over now... hahaha
gummo was good, this doesn't look quite as promising.
EDUCATE YOURSELF
does selena realize she was chosen for her perceived superficiality?
Ok Harmony you're no Scorsese, love the way you leered at the girls asses though! Bravo!..
yo selena hop off
does selena gomez have the slightest clue as to what harmony's saying? who the *bleep* is she?
..Whoopty fucking doo ,what harmony does takes talent but it sure as shit and creative or artistic .Put your cup down stop drinking the punch
"the most delusional thing" you've ever read? I can't imagine you read much then kiddo.
As for your bizarre view about 'what art is', just know that pretty much every artist that has ever lived would disagree with you.
Also clearly you don't watch many films.
Scorsese...Pfff...
his past work sucked ive seen it all these people who think hes a good writer and film maker are delusional.I'll admit it's and acquired taste but a very poor taste at that im sure the majority of people who like his work. Are fan boys his work is very amateurish styled .He goes more for trying to shock peoples senses which is similar to a cheap thrill .It gets old real fast and is the signature of a rising filmmaker/writer .Definitely not a professional
