    Thanks for this very important informational video. I am currently using Wi-Fi cameras as it was convenient and also cause I am currently renting and didn’t want to drill multiple holes through house for all camera locations. I really don’t like the WiFi for lagging reason I see a lot and complain about. When I see motion clips of suspicious cars pull up and park near my home and I go to check the full video on cloud, which by the way I’m paying $20 a month for, the cars just appear on camera and I don’t actually see them pull up no matter how slowly I scroll back the video. These WiFi’s has too many jumps in the playback. And sometimes I see a car pull in my driveway which is normal but many times I never see car drive to my driveway I just see a clip of the car pulling out and I wonder which direction did the car come from? I really want to just go hard wired and people hack into WiFi a lot and I’ve seen it so for that reason I only have them outside my home and no longer inside. But with hard wired I’d feel safe to monitor the inside of my home again..

      Thank you for posting this. You explain the draw backs to wireless very well. Also good understanding of the benefits of hardwired. This post is exactly the kind of information we hope to generate with these videos. Thank you!

    Thank you for this security camera comparison. I'm thinking about buying a security camera system myself here pretty soon. However I wanted to ask you three questions. What kind of hardrive do I need for the main component so I can record security camera footage? What brand does my hardrive need to be? And how much space do you recommend I should buy like a 1 Terabyte or 2 Terabytes?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. We highly recommend using hard drives designed for the work load associated with HD cameras. Normal hard drives usually fail within the first year. West Digital makes a line of "Purple Drives" which are specifically designed for security camera systems. We use them in our systems and recommend them to others. Here is a link to more detail: www.backstreet-surveillance.com/cctv-parts/surveillance-hard-drives.html
      The size of the hard drive is a function of how many cameras you have, their resolution and how you are going to record them (continuously or on motion detection). The link provided provides guidance on choosing the hard drive size. Thanks for the questions, we hope this helps.

    How about the risk of lighting striking the outdoor camera ? will that somehow damage the DVR as well ?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it will. You can put surge suppressors in-line with the cables. It might protect the DVR but it will not protect the camera. Seldom are such devices used due to the costs and the fact customers can claim such damage on their insurance. Not saying that's a good thing but its what usually happens. Thanks

    Another downside for wired: relocatability.
    How many holes are you going to punch through your wall every time you change positions.

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Well, you only drill the amount of holes needed. And how many times are you going to move a camera? 99% of all cameras stay where they were first installed. They are permanent fixtures, like a light. Movable cameras fall under spy cameras and applications. Is your application spying? most people would prefer reliability over the remote chance they need to move a camera. And last you still have to drill holes to mount wireless cameras. Just some things you could consider.

    • @BackstreetCameras

      Wireless is getting better. Its still for convenience not performance. But in many residential applications it can be effective. We only work and test professional equipment. The Riolink is consumer grade as is Ring, Nest and the rest. So we wont have any guidance for you. We would live to hear about your experience if you do buy it. Thanks for the question.

  • @securityquip3170
    @securityquip3170 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wireless? Don't even think about it. Rather, use a set of AP's in bridge mode. Ubiquiti's Nanostation is the most popular choice in the surveillance industry.

    I wanted the security camera to work only during the day, so I planned to install a timer that would turn on and off every day. Does that affect the camera when it's on and off every day?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The constant on/off on the camera can be a bit hard on the electronics. Most systems have schedules so you can just program them to start recording and stop recording at chosen times. I would consider this approach. Thanks for the question.

    Do any of the ethernet wired cameras offer 2 way talk?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some do but they are always a price point low performance camera. I have no idea why the surveillance industry does not produce better 2 way cameras but the best on the market is Ring, and we replace several ring camera everyday. We are not big fans of 2 way voice, they are always low cost price point cameras. Someday better will come.

    Do most Amazon wifi cameras have password protection? Like so only me and my family can see though the camera? And not some weirdo who can just watch us or something?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they all do. The problem is the customer does not change the factory default password. So any weirdo who knows the factory password would be able to view the camera. So just change the password. Hope this helps.

    Wireless systems....do you need internet wireless service at home to used these devices?

    • @BackstreetCameras
      @BackstreetCameras  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Danny, It depends. Some wireless cameras and systems create their own wifi network, which is preferred. Others use your existing wifi network but that can cause some real problems with speed depending on how many cameras you have on the network. Would need more info to help with suggestions. Thanks for the question.

      @@BackstreetCameras I can't think of any situation, where a wired system couldn't be used, unless the customer insists on not having the hassle of cable installation etc.
      But then I struggle to understand thier logic of wanting security by installing insecure solutions...
      What concerns me is how people use Amazon Alexa or Google home, for example, to control security critical infrastructure....

    Who wants to have tacky wires all exposed coming from every camera with a 500 foot cord going through windows and through the house to a receiver smh and with the other option how can they claim it's a wireless camera system when you have to plug in each individual camera wire to a plug smh do they think people are stupid that's not wireless.
