@@pixieslaje4612 Octopus cards were launched in 1997. Before that we used those magnetic cards with a little hole in the corner (and we could scrape the pain off the surface easily and repaint it however we like and regret doing it in a couple of minutes time)
To be honest , it hasn't changed much at all except for the platform barriers now installed, updated trains ,and yellow colored modern grab handles inside the passenger compartment ,otherwise you would think this was video was filmed yesterday literally!

I am a Shanghainese now live overseas. I like the broadcast in the old days. Although there is no Mandarin, I could get information from Cantonese broadcasts and it is easy to understand. As a Shanghainese, I hope my kid could speak Shanghainese fluently, and hope HK people protect ur own culture and language.
It is an interesting perspective because as far as I know, Shanghainese and Cantonese do have certain level of similarity for pronunciation of some vocabularies
I remember the MTR before any barriers were installed. I used to love trains as a kid (and it till affects my decision making today, i.e. train or bus, I'd probably be biased towards the train) and I remember when I was 4 or 5, I was practising writing Chinese (traditional), so my parents told me to write a letter to MTR asking for them to put platform barriers on my local MTR station. I still remember being so happy when several months later they commenced construction of barriers right at that station, so I thought my letter went through!

Miss the old time on this classic train. I am happy I was born in 1993 and had some memories of this old cabin. 👍 The platform seems a bit different than the time I went to take MTR. Signage might be modernised a bit in late 90s.

Ahh, those knobby-springy hand grips at the top of the railing. I remember them well. There was many a time that clasped my hand around one of those, to feel that oh-so familiar sensation of oil from the previous person's skin. Ahhh the MTR.

Jackson Hei, I think he's saying that the old announcements sounded more energetic, the pace was much faster than those we hear nowadays. Also, the old announcements provide information for interchange (e.g. the old announcement was sth like "The next station is Admiralty, please alight on the left. Passengers for Kowloon stations, please proceed to the opposite platform no.1.", while the new announcements do not provide information for interchanging location: "Next station: Admiralty. Interchange station for the Tsuen Wan Line. Doors will open on the left."). From 1992, when the pre-recorded announcements were introduced, till now, it has been the same person recording the announcements. As years past by, she got older and her voice has been getting deeping and deeping. You may compare the announcements in this video with those made 2014 onwards (Island Line Kennedy Town - Sai Ying Pun stations, Kwun Tong Line Ho Man Tin and Whampoa stations, South Island Line stations, etc.), and you'll know the difference.
Yes. the MTR in Singapore tells the location of the platform when the commuters need to change trains, for example, "crossover to platform X for train service to X". Regarding the woman's voice, I agree with you. Her voice of latest announcements is obviously lower, especially the announcement in Kwun Tong station like "do not put your belongings on the platform gate". I met her before, and I think her voice was "treated", apparently.

九三年出來社會工作一年都冇,記得當時放工後六至八點至會多人,上落班時間迫人好正常,但唔似現在幾乎一日二十四小時,一星期七日都係繁忙時間,連下午三四點都好似係返工時間咁,痴線

幕門係1998年首次引入(東涌綫、機場快綫),到2002年中逐步擴展至其他路綫。
未有幕門時的確對乘客構成一定程度生命危險,尤其排頭位,以往除咗多次乘客跳軌自盡或意外墮軌外,亦曾有乘客被人推落路軌輾斃或輾至終身殘廢!

細個嘅時候基本淨係需要搭港島同觀塘線,成日覺得只有M車好悶,一直想見到啲好似東涌線嘅Adtranz之類現代化一啲嘅列車,所以觀塘綫換C車嘅時候覺得好興奮,可以搭新車。宜家讀緊大學,M車架架都30幾40歲高齡,甚至喺港島線開始退役,真係越來越唔捨得🥲
先落後上,看不見衝門飆位的情況。97前乘客質素比現在好。

雖然國產比較現代化,但M-Train比較港式。

KCR operated for 97 years (could have seen the Centenary anniversary in 2010) and MTR operated for 43 years and still kept going
Rode these while in Hong Kong back in 1993.
