Deathspell Omega are on the more avant-garde side of Black Metal. They started as a more conventional BM act but shifted to this more avant-garde sound with their third album "Si Monumentum Requires Circimspice". Paracletus was their fifth album, the third and final* chapter of their famous Trilogy. The Trilogy dealt with various themes relating to theology, philosophy and other sorts matters, lyrics are notoriously difficult to make sense of for they'd usually require alot of context on the listners end to grasp.
Abscission is generally regarded as one of their more accessible songs and Paracletus is generally regarded as being a more melodic record compared to most of the band's output.
DSO's style is generally described as aggressive, chaotic and dissonant and is highly influential on many experimental style BM bands. Idk if anything then would really appeal to you, but pethaps songs from their most recent record The Long Defeat might be more appealing? It's generally slower and less dissonant than their usual output.
Hope this clarifies things for you.
*while the Trilogy is a collection of 3 full lengths that are thematically connected, there were several EPs that served as Appendicies, among these the last of these which came out after Paracletus was Drought. So you could say that Drought is the true conclusion to the Trilogy.

Yes! I definitely want Jim to react to 'Your Life is Our Death' in the future. Very interesting song

What got me about DSO is that the more "progressive" they got the more Morbid angel they went, I don't mean that in a bad way(I love morbid angel) but the influences are clearly worn on the sleeves in the last few records.

@@lewisb85 interesting observation, I'm not particularly familiar with Morbid Angel myself tho.
So far as I gather some of their main influences have been Gorguts, Abigor, Classical music, Jazz and Blues
Those are what they mentioned in interviews iirc

Deathspell Omega is, and always will be, my favorite band. 🖤 Here are the lyrics:
…The depths of abjection, a throne of manure
But even during the ecstasies of beatification
It is by no means possible to separate them
The den of serpents, the knot of vipers corruption-bred
And the blazing spirit of the mystic heaven above
    Angel browed with brass
Wreathed by a halo, sublime and infinite
    Tunneled by vermin
    …Feverish miasmas and a silent canticle…
    Implemini Spiritu Sancto
The scorching heat of the furnace inside galvanizes
A grapevine whose roots sink deep, far into the arteries
In contemplation the Lord of harvests long gone
Shall murmur obscene wonders to those who ate the grape
    Desperately feeding the empty void
Growing on innocent blood, the stronger and the greater
In ruthless rigour, in funeral glee
    Implemini Spiritu Sancto
The foam of nausea slowly rising to the teeth
Yes! Truly adorned with the grim regalia of perdition
I shall hold high a bowl of gems of unseen radiance
Enveloping spirit and will in seraphic rapture
O deformity, hear the weeping prayers
Arise from rot, be my child! Be my promise!
The nebulae in the superior sky howled like a starving hound
Aboyeurs de Dieu ! Aboyeurs de Dieu !
    Implemini Spiritu Sancto

The band claims they don't want fame and aren't making music for fans, but at the same time it's incredibly try hard music with all the changes, they probably can't play it live lol.

Yeah, quite enjoyable, even the section towards the end where the guitar player seemed to be having a stroke in that he fumbled with the notes again and again (either they looped take 1 or it was deliberate, in which case, I salute you!) I do prefer this sort of extreme metal to tamer genres such as hair, power and symphonic but probably 30 minutes is as much as I could take.

Very intentional, I'm sure, the way DsO was described to me when i first heard them is that the main pillars of their sound are dissonance, and 'as soon as you start to get a groove they change it up on you'.

hey man, I would love to get a reaction to Virgin Steele's "Emalaith" song! The base of their sound is "classic" heavy metal but with a real classical influence. An emotional masterpiece of a song!
