- He pushes, he provokes and he polarizes. But he has also made a few movies that have either become part of our DNA or that we just find really cool: Nicolas Winding Refn. The Danish director and scriptwriter is regarded as an eccentric, fetish filmmaker, genius, irritable figure and, for quite a few, also as arrogant and narcissistic. However, all this didn't deter us from interviewing him for almost 45 minutes. On the contrary: both Shawn Bu, himself a filmmaker and among other things responsible for the STAR WARS short film DARTH MAUL APPRENTICE, and Schröck spared no effort, travel and above all early times when it was said that he wanted to take time for us during the Film Festival Cologne. The result is a conversation about art, inspiration, consistency, about sex for the brain, about Rehn's streaming service byNWR, about his Amazon series TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG, his future series MANIAC COP, about weaknesses, his appearance in DEATH STRANDING or why he gets in permanent contact with people like Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford or Hideo Kojima and also THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. So it was a really special opportunity that we just couldn't miss. And hopefully you like it as much as we liked it. Have fun with our Kino+ special talk with Nicolas Winding Refn.

Ich hatte den Eindruck, dass sich Refn im Laufe des Interviews immer mehr und mehr öffnete. Das zu beobachten war wirklich schön, gerade bei so einer streitbaren Persönlichkeit. Da ich die Filme von ihm aber eh mag, war das Interview sowieso ein Genuss für mich. Vielen Dank!

Nicolas Winding Refn ist ein sehr arroganter Regisseur, der ausschließlich prätentiöse Filme produziert.

Ich glaube es ist nur etwas das er für interviews tut. Sorry, I'll switch to English as my German isn't too good. About 10 years ago I met Refn in a video shop in Copenhagen a couple of times, and he didn't seem arrogant at all. I published a fanzine at the time and he asked if he could buy a copy. He was cool. But I'll agree that some of his interviews are excruciatingly "peinlich" to watch. LOL
Wenn ich jemals Probleme haben sollte einzuschlafen, dann werde ich auf dieses Video zurückgreifen :D Meine Güte ist der Mann tiefenentspannt!

Hätte wirklich entgleisen können, aber das hat Schröck echt gut gemacht! Sich nicht von verweigerten Antworten niederschlagen lassen und dem Tempo des Gastes anpassen. War sehr angenehm zu schauen. :-)

You either love him or hate him. I just think that these “interviewers” lately let him get away to easy with his answers.
That's because they have trouble understanding what he's saying in the first place I believe. It acquires atleast a basic understanding of the ideas he's opening (and getting through his mumbo jumbo) to form an interesting reply and/or question.

1.25x ist wirklich perfekt für die Antworten von Refn. Da trocknet ja sonst Farbe schneller an der Wand.
