    I have done acrylics but am new to oils. In view of this, I have done a TON of research. I am impressed with how well you are at 'teaching', versus the others I've seen, and would love to see you do more like this. You truly connect with people and need to display more of this talent.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I get this questions all the time ha ha ha. The honest answer is I don't know.
      If you wash them, I am not sure how it will affect other clothes or your washer. This is why I reccomend wearing old cloths or wearing an apron ( you can see the one I wear here: th-cam.com/video/GmfJhDxScp8/w-d-xo.html )
      I say those clothes are now painting clothes ha ha ha. BUT if you really wanna wash them, I guess I would recommend a laundromat do it.

    I don't have linseed oil or liquid clear. However, I followed a Bob Ross black canvas tutorial before that used a layer of plain blue on a dry black canvas as the underlayer, then added white like you did for the sky. Do you think this would work for this painting as well? Perhaps thinning down the red, purple and blue ever so slightly so it acts like liquid white/clear - a liquid blue/purple/red almost?

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob most likely had the LC on before he started to paint.... you can do it dry BUT it is a lot harder to blend (but it is doable). I say GO FOR IT! This is just a building block painting to work on skills, so this is the perfect time to play around and experiment :)

    I had a question about paint thinner. When I'm done painting for the day I put my paint thinner in a glass container and let the paint go to the bottom so next time I use the clear paint thinner that's on the top over again. Just wondering how many times can you keep reusing the thinner before it goes bad? I notice after each time even though the paint sinks to the bottem the paint thinner gets darker and darker. Thanks.

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will make a video on this at some point but the 2 main things to look out for is:
      - When it starts to smell different (from thinner that is)
      0r
      - It stays cloudy when transferring it to a new container
      Those are the times to get new thinner

      @@WildCreates so i just cant manage to accomplish anything you're doing in this video. im not sure if im just using too much liquid clear (used black gesso and let it dry first) or what. but the windsor newton paint just seems so thick and never applies to the brush correctly no matter how gentle i am (there always seems to be too much on the brush. i even use drops of liquid clear to try and loosen things up)
      i cant layer the colors like youre doing on the hills. or get that proper "bushy" effect no matter how light i am. (im using a bob ross foliage brush. halfsize round) when i put the white on the grass, it just sorta mixes with the green and doesn't make those nice spread out "dots" like you have. i need that white to just sit on top of it
      cant get those nice even strokes to create the water either. its like everything is too wet and just melds together when blending.
      even tried a few of your cloud tutorials and my cloud forming improved after i got a bob ross fan brush. but when it came to going over them with the 2inch brush, they all just melted into the blue sky, lost all details, had no shape anymore and just looked like wispy white blobs. im even holding the 2 inch brush with 2 finshers in an attempt to be as light as i can. ive already ruined 2 promising landscapes trying to make clouds.

    I really have a hard time cleaning paint brushes after oil painting and I even used your recipe to make liquid white at home but I guess it didn't work for me (used processed linseed oil) It was way too difficult to blend the paint.

    • @peraguy3863
      @peraguy3863 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When you put on paint on your brush, make sure you wash the brush with paint thinner, turpentine, when your done. I know, it's hard because I also had the same problem. Just clean your brushes after you use them. Hope this helped!

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure what processed linseed oil is... Sounds more for wood-working then painting. The LS oil should be a lite-honey color and somewhat thin when you pour it out of the bottle.
      Make sure to clean your brushes with odorless thinner and then use this product afterwards ( th-cam.com/video/gDaoXPk-nWQ/w-d-xo.html ). This will give you perfectly clean brushes.

  • @kp-collectibles
    @kp-collectibles ปีที่แล้ว +1

    alright, I've been painting w/oils in the wet technique for about 2 months now. And this was the first paint along I've tried. (note: I've watched Bob off an on since he started PBS) And most of the stuff I paint is either a mash up of things I've seen my whole life or a variation of photos I've seen at some point or another.
    I do pretty well mostly. But I absolutely SUCK at land/depth. I got the skies down well, got water down well. I even do some decent mountains.
    but trying to do land, layers/depth, I just absolutely miss it. Unless it is a fairly thin line of land with minimal grass/brush/trees, it is just a major f-up.
    and it did the same thing trying to follow this one 😪 Sky looks fine, water looks fine... Land mass looks like I tried to paint land and f-up!
    what on EARTH am I doing wrong?!?
    Edit: sorry, I know this is an old post, but...
    edit #2: just found your video on layering, will watch for secrets I'm missing [th-cam.com/video/YNhIQSaECeI/w-d-xo.html]

    • @WildCreates
      @WildCreates  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its most likely you have too much paint already on the canvas from the things you dominate like the sky and water.
      1) If you know you are land will rest in a certain spot on the canvas. Make sure to work off and blend in all the extra colors. This will expose more of the raw canvas. Making it easier to shape and build layers.
      2) On a spare canvas just practice why you suck at ( don't worry about painting a full pic ) paint like 12 trees in a row. Then 12 bushes... this will burn the basics in and build confidence.
