This is the truth pilots. Some planes give you stress even while sitting in front of the computer screen. You can really appreciate the UMX series when you see wannabes trying to fly. Thx B&M!

Brian brother, I was down at a local hobby shop and saw several of these sitting on the shelf. Decided to watch your video before I bit, and BOY am I glad I did! I think you did a masterful job of explaining why this plane is not up to par, at least for beginners, and heck, it looks like it's a handful for competent pilots as well. Good job on keeping it real, thoughtful, and honest in this video. You are definitely a standup guy and represent this hobby well! Blue skies my friend!

Thanks, and yeah! This plane is not what we wanted it to be. Seems we have some pretty dang good looking planes that fly very "iffy" at best these days. I don't understand why it's so hard to take a solid air frame, with mediocre electronics to be at least as good as they WERE. I wonder if they're just not getting the CG worked out like they should, or the buyers are trying to cut too many engineering corners, thinking they can make more profit...well, people catch on pretty quick when the products suck.
Weird thing, it really IS a looker! I bet if you stole the electronics out of an EFlite UMX, and got CG right - she's be a daydream to fly! BUT then why not just get the UMX ;)

Another great video Brian. Great information, and as usual, excellent videography. As for Top RC, if these folks want to compete with Volantex/Eachine in this class, they really need to step up their game. Appearance is great, but if it doesn't fly right, the only way these will sell is if they cut the price in half, and not market in the main RC arena. Quite truthfully I doubt that would help.
Happy New Year to you and yours.

I like this video. It explained a lot about why I have trouble flying these small planes.. i had 2 corsairs..top flight and some other name..votranex I think. Fun to fly. But as soon as i toggled advance mode.. boom..lose control.
I now have a rage rc spitfire. And I just figured out tonight..i level the plane and turn on the controller. Then I'll put it on advanced mode..and I can see how "off" everything is.. I adjusted the trim for the elevators about 3 to 4 beeps to get them level.. then I tried adjusting trim for ailerons.. almost got them level.. but left side is going to need a pinch on the rod. I'm anxious to fly In the morning to see if this gives me a more fun flight experience

I cannot believe this I just ran across this video. I know you probably remember me I was battling cancer and very depressed and left a few comments on your channel. And I still have a crap load of RC airplanes I sold a bunch of them. But I have not bought a plane in probably a year. And that was because my last plane I bought was a top RC Spitfire and the xk p40 and both of them made me give up on fighting I could fly them but I wrecked alot trying to get them to fly right the xk was under powered I think and the top rc seemed to be the same way. But with me having problems setting up planes anyways and even tho I watched alot of your videos. I guess I just need to have someone show me and as I have questions stop them and ask or if I don't understand it then explain. Ive got a few to fly if they are new but if it's without bnf or rtf I end up missing something up and crash every time. So I gave up flying and haven't touched them in about a year now if not longer. But them last 2 really did me in. And after having all the E machine brand warbirds with tones of flying on them and thinking I was starting to get better. Then putting them up and not flying for about 2 months because of winter in ohio. I got them 2 over the winter and they did so bad. That it made me give up on learning to fly because it's just a waste of money and my time. Just felt after 4 years into it and still can't setup planes and have some bigger planes that I want to put better motors in them. Because I wrecked them. And after finding out they was under powered as well. Just wish I would have known that it was the plane not the pilot

Im glad i have seen this report as i thought it was my mediocre skills to fully blame Im onto my second plane ,the first plane i added my standard little nose weight small piece of lead flashing off of a roof gutter fitted inside the battery compart ment so very small but on my Volantex models it really smooths them out so i applied the same principal on the new Spifire . Take off was hand launch and was quite acceptable did a circuit no worries but on the second lap the plane executed a u turn and thats the last i saw of it. Contacted the supplier and they did me a deal on another one and this one is just awful tip stall being its forte. It has now become a desk folly ornament ! Regards Chris

Bought an old Yak 9 kit when I was 12, it just flat out would not fly. After having taken weeks to build it, the maiden was almost its last. It was tail heavy only slightly so put weight to a slightly nose heavy, barely in fact. 2nd flight, same as you say janky. I call it, untrimmable to achieve stable flight. It was like impossible to get it to round out, you either had down or hard up. Well was not able to slide it in without nosing in too hard. It died.

These guys (low end manufacturers) always have the CG way too far forward in an effort to avoid a tail heavy plane (you guys know this). I've had SOME luck getting rid of pitch issues moving the battery back, even involving cutting away foam, to where the CG seems too far back. You hinted at this in adjusting your elevator right out of the box. Just a thought...

Thanks for all the time and work you put into your channel. I’m new to your channel and I’m looking to get back into the hobby again. It has been several years since I have flow and was wanting to ask a little advice on making a selection on my items to get back into flying.
I think I have decided on a Turbo Timber 1.5, NX8 with a 6000mAh battery, s1200 battery charger, 4s 3200 50c batteries, XBC100 battery checker, and a foam case for the NX8. Do you think those items would be a good starting point? Any advice would be great and I will use you link when I purchase these products. Thanks again.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

yes - very good choices, BUT if you plug the numbers, you might just skip the NX8 + larger 6000mAh battery, since it'll only be a BIT more to get the NX10, since that battery is a HUGE rip-me-off, then you'll get the BIGGER step, and cover a longer duration of your hobby needs. If you go with the NX8, you will run out of channels sooner or later, but honestly, over 10 CH...I've never done it...and I have a DX18, and other higher channel count Tx'es than the NX10 that I use for the VAST majority of planes. If you want to SAVE CASH, and want a stop gap measure, maybe consider the NX7e, and then that'll save you money now, then you'll be "wasting" less when you upgrade...just a thought, but it's HIGHLY subjective, this topic, and you'll get 10 different tips, if you ask 10 different people...
-AND to be honest, the NX7e is only gonna save you $50 right now...so don't even consider that!
Also, might want to seriously consider a DUAL port charger. You will spend a LOT less more than you might think, then you can charge two at a time...something that will be appreciated later...BUT just keep in mind, I have like 100 chargers...and when I was BRAND NEW, I had about 3X chargers, with all having PARALLEL charger adapters built to help me get batteries charged when I was done flying.
bprc.me/Tx - I still think the NX10 (NOT SE...just the $550 one) will buy you most time, but since the NX8 is on sale, making it $350, the $37 - you're looking at a GOOD PRICE (right now)...
      bprc.me/NX8 + Bigger Tx Pack - 6000mAh 3.7V - bit.ly/3ojGIXZ
      VS
      bprc.me/NX10
-AND to be honest, the NX7e is only gonna save you $50 right now...so don't even consider that!

Thanks for the honest review. It certainly is a beautiful plane, and it handles crashing well. Too bad it is let down by poor electronics and a bad cg. Maybe a little weight and a better transmitter will make it fly as good as it looks. Do you know what protocol it uses and if it will bind to a TX16S or other 4-1 transmitter?

A brilliantly pointless machine! Just buy an Airfix 1/24 scale plastic kit if you want one to display! Similar price, just needs time & effort to build & paint. And thrown out of a top floor window, it’ll probably fly better than the one in the video…… 😅

Eflite is definitely our preference too, but there's a time and place for these little introductory planes. But even then, we'd still recommend bprc.me/EXHOBBY over Top RC. :)
