- The 2020 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is finally out, and in this video I compare it to the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA.

This is the first time BMW has introduced the 2 series Gran Coupe. The Mercedes CLA has been in the market since 2013, it has become a hit in Europe and North America which pushed BMW to bring it's own competitor to the CLA. In this video I compare them head to head and find out if the Gran Coupe is a proper competitor to the current king, the CLA. The 2020 Mercedes CLA has fresh interior and exterior, different engine and more technology. The 2020 BMW 2 Gran Coupe offers a 4 in line cylinder twinpower turbocharged engine similar to the Mercedes CLA. Both, 2020 Gran Coupe and 2020 CLA offer all wheel drive, Xdrive and 4 Matic, the 2020 CLA in the US offers a FWD system.

I understand that the cla gearbox in with lots of legs compared to bmw 235 use a better gearbox 8 speed ZF one of the best in the market, glad to hear your opinion on that issue. Yaniv Danino

You forgot to mention a very key way Mercedes allows you to control the instruments, which is the touch pads located on the steering wheel.

My CLA is a similar spec except I have the 2 tone black (MB text & fabric) with red stitching interior & the brushed aluminum trim. I love it so much so far. I get looks and compliments everywhere.

I ordered the CLA in January, I was originally told there was a 6month saith for the premium. But was called at start of march as they had sourced one for me, and I'd get it in April. But then COVID hit. So I have no idea when I will get it now.
It sucks with this covid 19
The CLA back window is so small, very hard to drive with most of Canada get dark at 4pm in winter.
I'm used a 2022 BMW 218i gran coupe, too.. 😊.

If you see these cars in real, you may feel different. I sit in both cars and found Cla was not looking as flash as its look on screen. However, BMW new design was more premium feeling in my opinion.
There is no doubt cla exterior is far better than 2 series.

I agree, the CLA interior did not give the premium feel I had been used to from previous models. The BMW interior had the edge in this respect.

I'm a BMW fan buy who owns a BMW m140i but I have to say as capable as I'm sure the 2 series grand coupe is it's just a pig to look at and compared to the CLA it's a no contest.

When i took my e90 to the dealer for a recall they gave me a 2 series gran coupe loaner. After 10 minutes of driving i was ready to get my e90 back!

@@fumiyafuse6374 It's more engaging to drive. Even if you just drive casually it gives a nicer vibe as you get a feeling of behind pushed from behind instead of being pulled from the front. And if you are skilled to can do fun things like drifting.
I personally have the 2020 cla and in my opinion it is BY FAR the best affordable luxury/sporty car on the market right now. Obviously the power lacks when comparing to a more engine focused car, But nonetheless you feel somewhat superior to others on the road because of the advanced tech. Beautiful looking car too.
Also because it's a damn Mercedes bro....the best

Which one drives better
I own a BMW 220i and a CLA 200 (but the previous generation). In general (even though my cars are older) I would come up to the same consusion. Personally I prefer the CLA, it is just more fun. The BMW gives a bit more comfort. But there are also small things in the Mercedes that are just better. Either way both cars are great. If you prefer comfort go with the BMW, if you prefer sports and more precise driving go with the Mercedes. I could see the smile on the face of Sam and that's what I get when I get into the CLA (which btw. is slower than my BMW, but just feels more sporty). Next year upgrading to a C35.
The Merc looks way sexier. That Bimmer is whack reminds me of that time Toyota put a Lexus badge on a Corolla and sold it for 40k.

i have the 2020 cla amg premium plus and it is a truly excellent all round car the interior is stunning especially at night.
The ambient lighting makes it a joy to drive and turns heads wherever you go.
Also the augmented reality sat nav is amazing there is nothing else out there on the market like it including the big luxury brands like Bentley and rolls Royce.

Didnt BMW drop charging extra subscription fees for every little option, like heated seats and such ? That is something I think gives BMW the big edge over Mercedes now. No monthly nickel and dime you to death nuisance fees.

In my opinion the bmw is better bc I went to go view the cla and they said a 4-6month wait and the features aren’t the best compared to the bmw the bmw it’s a 4-6week wait which is better and electronic boot and electronic seats and heated seats which in my opinion is better
A longer wait indicates more consumer demand and more attention to detail by the manufacturer.
Good video, but unfortunately from the first second it was clear that you are a big fan of Mercedes and that BMW had no chance there, even if you compared the BMW 8 gran coupe.To be clear, the Mercedes looks better and maybe it is better, but it's sad that in duels like this, you see from the first second what you prefer ... it's not fair
Way to completely miss that if you didn’t herb the spare tire option in the bmw, the false flood can be removed to get 15.7cu ft of trunk space... take rate for the spare is something like 5% (don’t quote me on that number, I just know I haven’t seen one yet) because most bmws are had with run flats.
Also... you couldn’t even get your knees into the CLA... they were straddling the seat... yet in the bmw you got your knees behind the seat no problem... tight yes but still room. Not going to argue the headroom in either tho since “coupe styling” has always been an I hate my rear passengers car type hahaha 😂
And a heads up display is available on the 228I

Sam CarLegion in this climate giving them time is not an excuse. They have the money and resource to release a perfectly good looking and well proportioned car. This was clearly a rush because the A class, CLA and A3 were probably eating sales to the stale 2 series. Why on earth is a German car trying to look Korean?!

BMW build quality and material used is just so much better than merc. BMW infotainment is also touch screen too. Have test drive both and fun BMW drive better too.

Mercedes Interior air vent design is from nostalgic SL class from the 50 & not from the Kia Stinger! LOL! 😅
My step daughter has a new Mercedes Benz GLE 250 and after all the problems with electronic systems failing their customer service is not very impressive. "It's a luxury vehicle with many extras so it's not uncommon to experience some failures " this after several attempts to rectify problems such as the failure of drivers power window. For spending in excess of $150,000 Mercedes attitude towards the customer service is unacceptable.
Yea that is unacceptable. I have owned 3 GLC cars with all the extras and none of those vehicles had problems. That GLE 250 clearly is a duff vehicle and should been taken back and replaced.

BMW really screwed up with that front grill in the 2020 models onwards.
The benz looks sleeker while the beemer is bulkier but its all down to preference

Yeah, the CLA’s only drawback is it’s lack of rear passenger headroom.
bmw doesn’t have much leg room but the m sport package or even the m235i is cheaper then an amg isn’t it.

It's hilarious how the BMW 2 Series GC is more...benz and the CLA is more BMW? Like typically the bimmers are the ones that look sleek and sporty, it's the opposite here.

In my opinion, sloped back coupes, which they are not they're sedans, are horrible designs. Why on earth sacrifice so much headroom where normal people can't sit in the back of the car? Never would German cars have done such a stupid thing in previous eras. This style compromised form that happens now was never permitted. I don't think matte paint exteriors look good, different though they be. And I think it's time to end the shiny glossy black plastics in car interiors, those need to be matte. The BMW's interior manages to have more class than the glitzy looking Mercedes interior. But these cars lack proper space inside and definitely are built down to a price.

Sam CarLegion all due respect my friend, I agree with Fay Ahmad. This is an excellent, concise and informative video, however the CLA is way above the 2 series in terms of looks (the whole reason for buying such a car in this niche segment) and even though the 2 series interior is very impressive, it is nothing compared to what the CLA offers.
What Mercedes does great is that their entry level cars feel much more special than they are. Even at first glance MB just looks more premium. Plus the interior? MB really kills it in that arena. If it came down between these two, MB no questions asked.
The CLA looks disgusting and the big ONE screen interior is cheap looking even if the clusters are nice. Good car for all grandpaps the CLA !

Interior in Benz is nice, but exterior design of BMW will age better
The BMW is actually quite ugly while the CLA looks awesome. IMHO though the CLA is not great inside. Apart from the lovely screen it feels a bit cheap with questionable hard plastic, the seating position is not great, the noise level is so-so and the headroom in the back is really bad. I didn't think the driving experience was anything to get excited about either. Haven't tried the BMW.

2007 Honda Accord Euro was one of the best cars I ever owned. Some of the Lexus models also look similar to the Honda Accord.
