      If it's warm enough that the heater is shutting all the way off crack a window so it stays running. The programming won't hold a consistent temp if it's shutting off to avoid excessive cycling. This is the same heater that is installed with a lot of Apu units

    She's such a Beaut there lad! Make sure you put up some long driving
    vids from the dash cam passenger side when you start hauling with it.
    You'd get more views with hauling vids with the Mack and such. People
    like me who're all buggered up physically watch those and get a lot of
    comfort out of them for some reason [guess it makes us feel like we're
    traveling or something]. Check out some of the FSC Speed Shop driving
    vids he puts up. He never intended on doing much in terms of his
    trucking but his views went up through the roof pretty much because of
    the hauling vids that insomniacs and people also riddled with arthritis
    get calm watching [they're cool vids]. :-))

    Does it drain batteries if you run it 10 hours?

    • @crackermcwhitey1364
      @crackermcwhitey1364 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      With a Webasto the unit shuts off when there is less than 8.8 volts available. Pretty sure Espar would have the same features. Depending on the temperature and how much the unit works I've had it run 12-14 hrs continuous. If you're home every night I ran mine at a lower cab temperature there's nothing nicer than hopping into a 75 degree truck to flash it up when it's -20 outside. working your truck for 6-8 the next day should top up your batteries but you'll be changing batteries every 2 years minimum.

    Are you concerned about the diesel supply lines waxing up and possibly becoming blocked in really cold weather? - I watched you install that narrow bore pipe between the pump and the heater without any insulation. Also can it be used as an additional fan moving air in hot weather without, obviously, the burner switched on?

    • @Ezrider359
      @Ezrider359  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      havent had that issue on my other one try to use good quality fuel in the winter time.

    • @TheRoadhammer379
      @TheRoadhammer379 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It cannot be used as auxiliary fan, its heat or nothing. Our fuel is winterized across the country from November to March and like me, I imagine Ezra runs an anti gel additive in the winter. I've been adding a quart of ATF to each tank during the winter since the ULSD was mandated. I have not had a line or filter gel up and the ATF adds sulfur back to the diesel, a necessary lubricant for injectors etc.

    Good stuff! Got a good story for ya...My oldest brother came out of the military, got a new 1959 Chevy tractor and went on the road. He installed a propane tank behind the cab and heater in the cab. This truck had a gas engine and NO APU back then. He was out on the road during winter and the truck broke down, I believe somewhere in Pennsylvania. Well, not knowing how long he would be broke down, he turned on the propane heater and was able to stay warm, until the problem was fixed. What a SAVE! Good job on the install. Lots of extra wire for the shelf! 🧐 I wouldn’t have thought about the air intake direction versus the exhaust locations as much because I’ve never installed one of these. But after watching your video, I feel that I could do a good job, and I do usually think a step or two ahead when I do my work. I’ve noticed a few trucks with the Espar heaters and I’m not sure that they were professionally nor correctly installed. Some people don’t seem to care if the exhaust is bumping against the fuel tank. “Let’s just get it installed and done...it doesn’t have to look good!” I just DON’T care for that attitude myself! So, another good job and another step closer to having Old Red set up the way you want her. 😎 Hey, are you using her now for anything or is she just sitting around waiting? I’m sure that if something comes up, and she’s just there ready, you take her and get down the road. I know you have the Mack and probably keep it busy, right? That’s probably what motivated you to get another truck, other than the fact that Ol Red was just setting around, rotting down and you just had to save her! 😎 By the way, I’m glad that you did save this fine piece of Pete history! 🥰

    Super great content. Questions: 1. Is there a risk of the exhaust leaking back in to the cab causing risk of toxic fumes or low oxygen while sleeping? 2. Would it be best to run the exhaust out to where you ran it, but then have a stainless elbow and standpipe going up back of can to roof of sleeper? With a turn back at the top to keep water out. This would make sure the exhaust exited out the top and could never be on the level of your body in the sleeper? - thanks for the video!!

    thicker blanket is cheaper (it only gets down to minus 1 here) .....old red is coming together ...are you going to insulate under the sleeper and cab ????

      Before I installed my first espar I used to sleep in pretty cold weather with a electric blanket but the heater is a lot more comfortable

      @@Ezrider359 i used to drive a truck that the owner disconnected the heater line from the heater unit cause it leaked and he didn't want to fix it it was freaking cold inside the truck driving through the night and the door seals didn't do there job either so it was fr-fr-freezing in the truck i mainly contend with heat of summer only wish the sleeper had driver side bunk door as well for cross breeze in the sleeper the vent do nothing only at speed they work

    I know it’s not a semi, but I just finished cleaning up all the excess wiring from my lighting, power steps, programmer, etc, this past summer on my dodge diesel. Ended up with tons of extra wire after cutting and splicing to clean it up. Love your vids ezra! 🍻

    I needed that and my Carrier APU heater to stay warm in Alaska and the Yukon Territory in the winter. If I would go back to trucking I would probably put two in my truck. I spent a very cold night in Whitehorse when I broke down and couldn't idle the main engine and the APU crapped out on me.

    Great Video . The driver will be warm if he's stopping for the night. Since you have very cold weather, what is the temp. in the sleeper

    Espar and Webasto make great heaters. The knockoffs are ok for occasional use, but no comparison to the real deal. We run a LOT of Webasto coolant heaters which are nice for keeping everything warm for good cold starts, but they're more complicated install (need a coolant pump) and more expensive. The Espar air heaters are great middle ground and keep you warm and with that big cam you can winterfront the entire rad if you had to since it's aftercooled to keep the engine warm.

      i don't really need a unit capable of a/c as we really only have a couple months of really hot weather here and it always cools way down at night. i might end up running the truck for a/c 2-3 nights a year.

      i tested it once before i don't remember the exact number but somewhere around 7 hours per gallon at full output witch is rarely needed to keep the cab of a truck warm.

    That should be a cozy cab with the soundproofing and new interior panels. Can the espar be used to augment the factory heaters while the truck is in motion?
