    Vivid, candid, and informative - despite that one sound fade. I hardly knew the ship existed. What a precious little liner saved so beautifully.

    Just to put you straight, the Royal Marine Quarters that you mention was actually known as the Royal Marine Barracks where the 7 Royal Marines ( 4 Royal orderlies, a butcher , plumber and carpenter) lived and was used by the Royal Marines Band when embarked for a tour. I know, because I was one of those Royal Marine Bandsmen.

      @@mayfraser3774 I enjoyed the Britannia very much, I spent about 3 hours inside the ship. The tea room was very nice and I enjoyed my lunch there.

    for Gods sake build a new one for the 21centry.
    get the best of British craftsmanship together and build a glorious ship.
    trade deals can be made on it.
    it will pay for itself in no time.
    get a shadow ship to follow full of sas and we're in business.

    Yacht conversions on ex military ships are a popular way to get a well built mega yacht cheaper than new built, and often studier. The Britannia should have been modernised.. Diesel electric propulsion, electric services replacing steam, modern bridge etc. The crew would be cut in half, their quarters would have been roomier. Should never have been retired.

    Thanks for the clarification. Bet it was an amazing experience - taking part in what must have felt important and historic?

    An interesting subject, with some good images. However, the so-called 'music' was far too loud. Why the inane idea that the music should swell in volume, every time the voice was silent? The images were often rushed. On the whole, though this must have taken many hours to prepare, it could have been much better.

    Good informative video but I was straining to hear the commentary over the loud music. A definite "like" just the same.. Would like to visit some time.Hazel.

    Sad thing is that the Presidential yacht of Egypt is still operational, and that was built originally in Britain in 1865, it had paddle wheels but was later stretched and re-engined with propellers. It was built with an iron hull about the same time as the HMS Warrior Steam Frigate. But the Britannia is too old, BS.

    What does a fudge shop have to do with the Royal Yacht Britannia? Who allowed that awful cafe to be built ON TOP of the ship?? Madness!!

    • @DanielGarrett0123
      @DanielGarrett0123 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cafe was not built on top of the ship as an afterthought. As the narrator states, the space was previously used to host receptions.

    why did the qween let the ship go in the first place. there was nothing wrong with it, we still use hms victory as an offical ship and thats older.get a life.

    You've got a Queen, England. Build her a new yacht and let her be free. Must have been the god damn socialistst that forced the retirement of this great ship. Wise up England, you cannot be great on the cheap
