Capac had a good idea for lowering the conveyor access that you may have dismissed as a capacism: 'A sensor that detects gunfire'. There's a thing like that, the target dummy, and that's a fantastic idea since you're all almost always carrying personal arms.
Frankly, when you were talking about using Rotors for the wheels, I thought you would put A wheel on a rotor without the suspension. Never in my wildest dreams would I have expected this kind of insane contraption of a wheel made out of perpendicular wheels with suspensions. And I absolutely love it!
TBF I think putting wheels on rotors would legitimately work and would be easier to control, however it wouldn't look NEARLY as ridiculous as the contraption Splitsie made. Next they should use rotors and sensors and grabby hands to steer the rig with levers!
Nope, standard wheels on rotors only works for about 10m then the wheel explodes. The wheel blocks don't have proper friction and are damaged by voxels. The suspension mounted wheels have proper friction and are completely unharmed no matter how hard they hit voxel 🙂 So it wasn't just stupid looking, it was stupid looking and clever (maybe) 😂

I hope to make something like that, but I plan to make the simpler options first - basically, get us moving, then I have more time to work on the fiddly things 🙂
@Splitsie Thinking about it again, ironically a lever setup would be simpler control-wise in current state of things than the button setup, as it'd just be two levers to control speed of each side of wheels. Bigger challenge would be having a physical system that both is hand-usable and doesn't bounce out of position with the bumpyness of the rover I reckon.
The RBLF no longer trusts the Splitsie to cook pancakes. He’ll most likely flip the whole frying pan if not the whole stove when trying to flip the pancakes… Dangerous, Dangerous Splitsie… 😂😂😂😂😂
I unfortunately missed episode 2 as I am working the local elections in my corner of the United States. Looking forward to the VOD, to shenanigans and Capacisms, and of course the inevitable CLANG sacrifice on dedicated server. CLANG is love. CLANG is life. All hail CLANG.
the movement of the rover after the wheel change reminds me of a remote controlled car from early 80's called The Animal where claws would come out of the wheels to help the vehicle get over objects
And the Baby Crab Juice still lives, despite Spitsie's best effort! I adore that silly little rover and will be devastated when it finally does leave us for the great scrapyard in the sky... So... In anticiation of that, could you add a broken down version to your mod? You all were great as always, look forwards to more crazy, impossible (or should that be implausable?) Builds 😂😂😂
The rover in Damnation Alley had 3 wheels in a triangular arrangement around a rotor for each wheel position; it allowed for easier traversal of rough terrain (because you could rotate the block to push over an obstacle), and allowed for easier replacement of a flat/shredded tire (I don't remember if they were canonically solid tires or inflated) by rotating it to the top position, allowing you to replace it without having to raise the whole vehicle.
Splitsie, one improvement that would be amazing would be to make a small grid control room with rotors and sensors where you can use arms on the hinges and sensors detecting subgrids only to make the rover Lever operated. Really would go with the tank vibes lMO. Loving the series!
Loving this new series for the banter, the challenges and the crew (for the most part, TFE is bothering me this time around but in AA he's just ok) Good luck with your quest splitsie! 👍👍

Don't ever change, that unexpected comedic timing is part of the charm of both channels. And Capac's pizza-wrapped hot dog sounds very similar to my diet as of late-- there's a local bakery that sells hot dog rolls that are _amazing._
Damnation Alley was a novel about a group trying to cross a post-apocalyptic North America that is plagued by freak storms and giant insects, using specialized vehicles. It was made into a movie in the 70's starring George Peppard (Hannibal from A-Team) and Jan Michael Vincent (Stringfellow Hawk in Airwolf).
You can merge a subgrid of a subgrid back into your main grid if you want a secure drill arm. I.e. hinge, arm, hinge arm with merge block and drill. Merge back after use. Also: 4 wheel drive for more turning.
I cant believe the big rover did three clang induced backflips and stuck the landing near perfectly (aside from mangling the small golfcart).... you damn lucky the tree was there to knock out exactly und exactly the one block behind the wheel that caused the phantom forces.... 💀
I want to see a tower in the middle of a large grid. The top of the tower rotate with the rover commands. Turn the wheel to the right -> turn tower 45° right. Reverse -> tower rotates 180° I’ll go ahead and build that for myself 😂
Dunno if chat did fill u in. Mechanum Wheels are a real lyfe thing, commonly used in FIRST robotics competitions. They, when counterrotated as a pair, allow for perpendicular movement.
"And in the floor routine... oh my. Well the judges are going to have a difficult time judging that performance from Australia. Wait... I'm just receiving word that one of the judges was an unfortunate victim of the routine and was thrown clear of the arena - and possibly the city - by the force."
One problem I suspect with Capacs skateboard trailers is the front axle when towing. It looked as if it was down and had spring tension which results in a pivot point that can easily lift the rear of the truck and result in a jacknife as has happened several times. Maybe try pulling them up when moving it as a trailer.
@@Splitsie You are welcome. As amusing as some of the chaos is, the solutions you and the others come up with are the real treats, with their very own brand of controlled chaos.

It would be _amazing_ if SE's motion system let you build a suspension out of pistons and hinges/rotors. It would probably need some kind of a ball joint to really work like a modern suspension, as well as springs to "force" the wheels on the ground.
You can somewhat approximate it with hinges or rotors, but with pistons being non compressible by outside force they're sadly not an option as they'd be super handy if the could work

Build up and over the “wheels” when you enlarge this monstrosity. That’s prime solar panel location. It would also help in saving from completely rolling over maybe?
If you need suspension, the obvious choice are pistons. I mean they Already 'look' like ones. lol. Seriously. Pistons compress when the proper pressure is applied AND you can select how much pressure it pushes back at.. Somewhere in all of that there is a happy bouncy medium (or soft, or even hard depending on your personal choice) ... if nothing else works, then you can script it.
I'd wager a quartet of hinges, mimicking a real-world double-wishbone suspension, would actually work better (ie two hinges connected in series, with some blocks between for spacing, and then the exact same thing duplicated below it to ensure the side axes remain aligned). You can set a force and rotation rate for the hinges to tune both the vertical force and the spring speed, and the parallelogram configuration of the hinges guarantees that drive wheel remains vertical while still allowing it to travel up and down relative to the rover body. Basically, like this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_wishbone_suspension#/media/File:Double_wishbone_Suspension.gif
@@Splitsie Ah Have U tried setting the pistons force value to a very low value? I say this because I have. I have used them for magnetic anchors setting the value to very low (I mean VERY low) and then extending it - it basically extends under its own weight - will make it hit the ground and then stop, even tho it is still commanded to extend. The purpose of this was to stop it from lifting the vehicle. I would then reverse it so its pulling back up. it would not because its now locked to the ground and not powerful enough to do anything but go into tension. but again the value was so low it would not pull the vehicle down, but it did lock it in place nicely, then just turning off the mag-grab plate would release it to go back up. I said all that to say this. when I had it locked, if something else caused the vehicle to go up or down, the piston cylinder would comply with that motion even tho it was on and in an extending or retracting mode *note while the vehicle was still - it did neither. in other words the piston would extend or contract to match the distance from the vehicle to the ground. even tho it was told to extend or retract. I suspect having the strength level slightly higher (and maybe needing two pistons - one pushing and the other retracting might be required for suspension, i dont have access to SE right now so cant do my own experiments) I understand what you are talking about bending, but I am talking about forces much much a fraction of those required to do what you mentioned.
I suspect there is a happy value where the piston offer 'resistance to movement' but be unable to move on its own because its strength is not high enough for that. On top of which its length limit value would be very handy in suspension as well

I suspect having the strength level slightly higher (and maybe needing two pistons - one pushing and the other retracting might be required for suspension, i dont have access to SE right now so cant do my own experiments)
I understand what you are talking about bending, but I am talking about forces much much a fraction of those required to do what you mentioned.
I suspect there is a happy value where the piston offer 'resistance to movement' but be unable to move on its own because its strength is not high enough for that. On top of which its length limit value would be very handy in suspension as well
Nope, they're non compressible by outside force, that's why any custom suspension has to be built with rotors or hinges
Wasted seeing more people than there should be sounds like that Rick and Morty ep with the aliens multiplying and creating happy memories.
Also Splitsie at 2:32:03 you did see one medical component! You weren't imagining it! It just disappeared after you transferred it from the small rover to your inventory.
Hmm... I wonder if one of the other guys grabbed it
Man it's starting to get painful listening to splitsie become a bullying angry hysterical teenage girl every time TFE asks about literally anything
Also, finally a new wrong way series! Yay
what's the mod that lets you change items and not going into a seat or controller ?
That's Build Vision :)
