It's brilliant how he is awkward and a bit creepy all the way through the film until he decides to pick up his first victim, then he smiles at that guy with a completely normal charming smile.

I know, I just like how the director/writer brought it out. There was a French film about the "vampire of Dusseldorf" serial killer, which played it from the opposite side showing the killer as this really charming friendly guy until he would suddenly turn into the terrifying monster when the bloodlust struck. And it was done with just his expression, no makeup or trick lighting.

Notice Derf's facial expression after Dahmer continues to behave like a buffoon. At some point he realized they took it too far with him.

Fun fact; in real life, Backderf did not laugh along with his friends. What he saw Dahmer do on the way to the mall creeped him out. It was a ten minute drive to the mall, Dahmer was sitting in the backseat of Backderf's car. Jeffrey downed an entire six back of beer, drinking one can after the other. Backderf saw this, and realized that something was really wrong with him.

    • @Videogamewrestling22

@@av9638 really what this all comes down to is lack of attention from his parents I mean look at his mom, jeff empathized for his mother, but she still neglected him, and his brother got more of her attention. The dad did his best, but the mom wasn't helping so it was hard for him to raise him, not only when he was a teenager, but as a minor at the age of 10. I wouldn't be shocked, his mother was just as much as mean bully as the people in this video. I mean look at it this way hes a teenager, so still a minor obviously...He obviously got signs of behavior that typically is found in mental illnesses or what not. I don't think what he did was right, but the amount of guidance that he got as a kid was very little, and as a teenager it's very confusing for people, so if people don't play a role and tell him it's wrong or help him, that could make him think it's okay and his gory behavior on his victims to be just as okay.

@@av9638 You need understand these people start out as a minor with substance abuse and or mental abuse by someone in their life, trauma, or physical abuse, neglect by whomever is supposed to be their mother or father. This can affect a person's life in a negative and or positive manner, unfortunately for jeff here he just didn't get that moral support, so yes empathizing for his victims is good, but jeff was just as much as a victim emotionally speaking, and that lead to physical harm to others. My point to conclude these people aren't just like this, now some things may just naturally run through the family, but very rarely it's that, these peoples childhood were treated negatively with passion by some of their..... All of these theories on how if “people actually spent real time” with Jeff, they would have “possibly cure his sickness”. I think because it was the way he was, which made him mostly a very lonely person, placed him in a very vulnerable mental status. Surely he already had compulsive images of murder, but additional intoxicants allowed for him to reserve no emotion at all while he killed. Essentially; a twisted mind turned lonely through ongoing abuse.

Mason Mcleod It is impossible to help someone who does not want help. Jeff masked his demonic sickness too well, and people still get chills comprehending how a face like his, could be capable of such terrible things. Jeff was lost in a world of which he saw it being against him completely. His drinking was under the radar when it came to him being with his parents. Plus back then, it certainly was less regulated like today’s standards, so even his parents thought it to be a teenage phase. He hid everything for a reason; he wanted to be his truest self, he wanted to repay the world with his evilness because a part of Jeffery wanted to expose his bad side. Him deceiving everyone he knew was done for the reason being; because he wanted kill, deceive, and kill some more. There was no helping him. His actions and personality pinpointed him towards an impulsive “class clown,” in school, but nothing demonic truly presented itself. Teachers did mention things to Jeffery’s parents. But it was more like one of those sit-down conversations•your son is being disruptive•smack on the hand•onwards you go. There was absolutely no helping this genuine monster. Not whatsoever. Look at him now.

This movie isn't a cinematic masterpiece or anything (far from it), but this is possibly the best scene and moment in the movie, which encapsulates the key themes and makes for a great climax. It shows the breaking point of a troubled soul, but rather than a large display like others do in a midlife crisis, dahmer gets increasingly more tame subverting the narrative. The shots and cinematography show how life is passing him by slowly as they stop noticing his existence and he is left to his own thoughts. The alcohol numbed this feeling for a while, but it finally comes out in his command performance when he realizes this truth of the world and falls into darkness. One of the saddest scenes I have scene in while, and both the bullies and the future murderer horrify my about the existence of the human race. Wish we had more scenes like this in movies, and wish this movie was better so we could get it some recognition for a great scene like this.

I'd say that if this movie was told from Backderf's perspective and included an aftermath interview of the real Backderf, then perhaps this movie would've had a better chance of being nominated. After all, the film is titled "My Friend Dahmer," which is based on a graphic novel written by Backderf.

TigerLily Not true. Dahmer had surgery at the age of four for a hernia and after that he was distant and withdrawn. Before that he was described as an energetic, normal kid. Yes, his upbringing and shitty homelife played a part in molding him but that surgery is something that is always overlooked.

    • @UnderTheTableGremlin
      @UnderTheTableGremlin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

grace crxmb really? Wow! That’s very true. I just think that it wasn’t just something like his mental health that caused him to torture and kill. I personally believe that a lot of this had to do with his mentality and external forces molding him into the killer he was destined to be.

It's not like Jeffrey didn't try to be normal, or to fit in, it's just that he didn't have a place in the horrible small town he was in. If he held on a little longer, he would have been a motivational speaker, or a success story that people tell kids in high school auditoriums.
    But he couldn't.
And people will never know him as a human, much less one who just needed help. A shoulder to cry on, or even just a boyfriend who wasn't ashamed of him.

I sincerely like see this type of movies, documentaries and others to "understand" the mind of psycho people.
In most cases I discover that what leads a person qualified as "normal" to become this, is society, among others factors.
This is really insane, we're more concerned with trying to eliminate these persons than with knowing why this happens. Maybe Jeffrey just a curious guy that let himself be carried away by his impulses, it doesn't justify it, at all but we should be more human with this kind of situations, since normal people can transform into psycho just for feeling lonely (REPEAT THAT I DON'T TRY TO JUSTIFY HIM).
Although I like to think that If he had some support, he might not have twistew his way.
Because this scene, reminds me how all of us are fuck up, look him in this part (I know that is a movie) and then tell me what you see.
At the end my existential question about this is, the psycho born or is it made?

I think they are born. However, l read that not all psychopaths become serial killers.

Was this shot on site? I drove past his house on my way home from Akron and it was nearly identical.
