Edgar, have you heard of Mangeao wood from New Zealand? It makes a unique tone for violins. When these trees were being cut with a 6 foot saw, the tree made the saw sing, so they called this tree the Singing Tree. The tree is related to Avocado. Mangeao violins are rare. I have one that is 101 years old. Mangeao is used for the back plate. On this violin the top plate is made of kauri wood which is pretty good, slightly more brittle to work with than spruce but a good tone. There are about 5 luthiers who have made mangeao violins. The one I have has a very blunt political message written inside by the maker, Charles Johnston, so it can only be read when the violin is opened up.. It It is a funny poem calling for 3 politicians (including two ex prime ministers) to rot in hell. I can send you a photo of the opened violin which has had internal repairs in the past.
@@avacardough5027 Mangeao, actually has very small avocado type fruit that are purple with a smoother texture than avocado and more sweet. If you could breed a commercial sized fruit you'd be in the money. They naturally grow only in the top half of the North Island mostly in the Bay of Plenty, and southern Waikato. Elsewhere they are rare .
I bought my first “violin” in a pawn shop. I still have it and still play it. I have bought several violins off of eBay that needed major repairs. They all sound ok to me, but I,m a fiddle player 😁
There’s nothing wrong with being a fiddle player. I am too. I’m just being trained classical to rid myself of bad habits. Have you ever watched Michael Cleveland? Or Jason Carter? Becky Buller?
Hi Edgar I love your videos as I ind them both informative and funny 😁 how ever as a budding cellist I would love 💗 to hear and see more about Cellos than violins ❤
Certainly, on my channel, you'll also find a video discussing this topic!!! Feel free to write me at edgar@eruss.it describing the violin and the type of sound you desire; I'll be happy to help you!!!👍🏻😉
Mangeao Violin : I have heard Mangeao violins made by 3 different makers and also a Mangeao cello and they all have that distinctive melllow Mangeao sound.
You can simply visit my website: www.violincellomaker.com. There, you'll find all the instruments currently available, with the option to listen to them as well!!! 😉👍🏻
Thanks for having me on! I really enjoyed this:)
Thanks to you for this enjoyable adventure😜
Two of my favourite creators in one video?! Wow!
OK - that was fun. I'm subscribed to both of your channels.
This was fun, I saw the idea on ViolinMechanic’s channel and was wondering if it would be you.
Thanks for a happy Friday

If I bought a violin from your shop are you able to transform it into a left-handed version without disturbing the integrity and quality of the sound?
