On today's episode of Randomland...
We head north to take care of an errand, and when things go awry we land on another PLANET! Welcome to the Trona Pinnacles, a National Natural Landmark. Made up of over 500 spires of strange rock called tufa (see below for more) - This otherworldly landscape has fascinated generations of visitors and filmmakers with its unmatched views and strange formations. They filmed everything from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, to Tim Burton's 2001 Planet of the Apes (The Mark Wahlberg one) to Westworld and Lost in Space... and even a Rihanna music video out here at the Trona Pinnacles.
On the way here we experienced the legendary Fish Rocks (GPS 35°40'00.3"N 117°25'41.6"W ) and Elmer Long's Bottle Tree Ranch. The Bottle Tree Ranch is located on old Route 66 at 24266 National Trails Hwy, Oro Grande, CA 92368

this area was also used in a iconic scene from 60's Lost in Space where they shot the crash landing of the Jupiter 2 on a planet they used a large miniature on wires flying thru and just missing the spires before crashing. I found a youtube link of the scene the ship was on autopilot and the crew in suspended animation this was shot in color and there is a color version somewhere th-cam.com/video/TqwUxkjeL8M/w-d-xo.html

DUDE!!! I was just sitting at work having a slow boring day, so I checked out TH-cam and voila, an EPIC Randomland episode!!! They're all good but this one was especially awesome. I'll have to watch this one a few times for sure.

I like Star Trek V, too! It's not the best film, but I appreciate a lot of the little moments in it. I don't think it's nearly as bad as some say.
We used to set an annex up on my Dads combie. It was always awesome and very comfy. I miss camping. Nothing is better than a lovely rest out in nature.
What an amazing area to camp at though! It looks so cool and absolutely stunning! Especially at sunset and sunrise. Imagine what you could see if you brought a telescope!
