Fun fact: If you go even further out, and I mean wayyyyy further out, the game will eventually fully break down to just black. No movement, no visual, nothing. You can achieve this by leaving the the actual confines of the roblox workspace (which is very hard to do). Sometimes you can glitch a part accidentally in roblox studio seemingly out of existence but when you teleport to it its in a black void which means it literally LEFT roblox itself! edit: Just so you guys know you can get into the same limbo state by deleting yourself from the game while you are playing it
you know this sometimes just happens to me randomly in roblox studio, i move a part and it just goes ..somewhere.. i press F to go to the part and it is all just black
I've been playing roblox for almost 10 years and never knew why this would happen if lets say I got flung out of the map somehow. The explanation was REALLY awesome! Thank you, and nice video!
I remember when as a kid, I had a obsession over this. Early early roblox, like when comic sans was still the main font and everyone had these dinky little green bars above their health, or when every 'morph' was named 'Dalek' I think? I don't remember-- It was like a boogieman style obsession, 'Nil' terrified me when I was really young, thinking it was some different dimension that hid within every Roblox game, and the only way to get there was to break the game and fling yourself far enough. I actually managed to do it a few times, rather consistently, I think I did it the most in this zombie survival DayZ clone *and* some random obscure obby that nobody could ever remember the name of at this point. Now, as an adult, I know that it's math getting real freaky when the numbers get big enough. It's fun seeing it in all sorts of games. Honestly, it's as cool as little kid me thought it was, an alternate dimension in the game where everything's ceasing to function and the world around you is starting to collapse. Actually pretty easy to find this in EVE Online if you look at someone's ship a couple hundred KM away from you. It's basically the same effect the playstation had with its polygons I think? It's cool. Nil is cool, You should make a followup video of going even *further* out showing the black screen @Tangled_Goo talks about. Would be pretty cool!
in my speed simulator game i had so much speed that when climbing i just disappeared due to how fast i was going (it was actually very funny just despawning)
This just happens in every game. The "farlands" isn't a really special place. Its just you're so far from the center, reality in the game engine just starts breaking down. Due to you being so far from the reference point (that being the center) This can be mitigated, and outright fixed with some solutions.
I remember playing those old building games, I would have two rotators spin in different directions while connected to the same brick. Then I would jump on the brick and It would send me straight up so far into the far lands that I couldn’t see my character anymore. 11 year old me found this hilarious
in royale high, it’s actually possible to fling yourself something like 5 million studs out by using something as simple as a shark floatie in the ocean. the devs know about this bug, they just find the glitch hilarious so it got to stay!
I used to reach it because subatomic tripmine had completely insane knockback in ripull minigames, and since it also did no damage, I'd use it to fly into space. Sometimes I reach super far distances unintentionally. I think the farthest I got before I was bored was when I was legit 5 triangles.
The game I really enjoy playing on Roblox, called Project Smash ever so often occured when I got hit ot just flang, I would go from spawn either upwards or sideways, more than 3,000,000 studs. I probably was more further though. Still don’t know how and why.
Roblox needs to upgrade their game engine. It’s practically impossible to make big maps unless you scale it down and doing that is inconvenient. They demonstrated that they can fix this from Hack Week years ago but I wish they would actually implement that! Roblox could have so much potential if only their floating point issues weren’t so bad compared to other engines
What if i told you theres somthing worse than 20 mil? I remember a gravity game where i then fell out of the map and DOWN to the sky. After bieng there fir a few hours my avatar at the end was just a triangle or 2 appearing every few seconds. Beyond that point tho.. idk what there. Its too far out.
There is this game called build a boat for treasure and there is a item called the thruster and if you shove a thew of those on your "boat" then you will go to the far land instantly
Roblox’s engine is terrible at this. Making massive maps is absolutely hell and you have to scale everything down. They need to upgrade their game engine
@@RyanZ225_PC Yeah, for some reason in minecraft you can go much further out than 20 million studs, you can go up to 30 million+ blocks, and 1 stud is 0.2 blocks! Even though minecraft and roblox are both 32/64 bit. Idk why roblox has this issue worse for some reason.
The reason this happens is because floating point (decimal) numbers are limited and are more compact around 0 (more decimals), and less compact the further out you go, eventually it starts skipping whole numbers so that's why your movement on the X axis stops.
there is actually multiple Nil Zones, one of them is where you go so high up in the roblox game that everything becomes flat, how to get there I have no idea, a hacker touched me after going super fast and I just became a pancake, funniest thing to happen to me in a while.

When we convert those integers to decimal, the algebraic operation looks like this: (2(s - ½) (k * 2 ^ (n - 127)) When you're far away from 5 million studs, the float looks like this: 0 10010101 00110001001011010000000 In the algebraic operation: (2(s - ½) = 1) (2 ^ (149 - 127 = 22) × 1,611,392) Where is the problem? - you may ask. In the mantissa's precision. When we increment the mantissa - make it 1,611,393 - and do the operation, it results in the value being 5,000,000.5, so the precision is half a stud. So there are no fractions now. After exceeding 16,777,215 - the exponent is 151 - precision is exactly 2. Etcetera, etcetera. It reaches up to the exponent being 254, then the number is around 3.4028235e38 if the mantissa is at its maximum. When we set the exponent to 255, the number becomes infinity if the mantissa is exactly 0 - otherwise - it's just NaN standing for Not a Number, in Roblox terms it's the ACTUAL Nil zone, in other languages than Lua, and other engines not based on it it's the Null, Inf or the NaN zone. There was a glitch in jailbreak where if you clicked the enter on a car too fast repeatedly, on mobile, it’ll send you in and out of the car super fast and it will sometimes try to put you inside objects repeatedly, when you are going in and out of an object, it will keep trying to move you outside that object and eventually, it’ll panic and when you get in the car the next time during the glitch it’ll send you in a direction so fast that you can end up accidentally going to the part of roblox where your avatar becomes invisible. Another less effective way is to use the parachute and click the enter button a few times, you get sent not as fast, but you NEVER stop.
