    Definitely gives a new meaning to "de-bugging" the engine!

    The bugs in the cylinder reminds me of the big Healey engine you found stuffed with rice. Someday you should do a video on “best practices” for long-term storage of vintage automobiles.

    I thought that you would be able to turn the engine with a crank handle.
    Nice car and I think it’s a great project for your channel.

    Nice ride, would love to see the rest of the work, engine and interior, in future videos. It's an interesting engine that has some different technology in it, and I'm curious to know what the guts look like.

    Of course we want to see this one. I was steeped in Chevy Stovebolt Six lore. My folks had a ‘39 Master Sedan with the hunchback trunk during The War. And his MOS in the Army was teaching Italian POWs engine maintenance on…these engines! Yes please!

    That is the first time I have seen bugs like that an a cylinder bore, quite sereal. I would evict the deceased residents as soon as possible that will help get rid of the smell! The seats as you say look pretty good so one less thing to consider. I will be hoping we get a naturalist in to identify all the species. 😁 This will be an interesting project even if you don't do a full restoration. Thanks again Steve for such variety in your videos. 👍👍

    This car looks like it might be a very interesting one to bring back to life, especially if parts are available. I've not seen many pre-war cars worked on and I'm curious to know if that engine is salvageable.

    I pulled my 31 chevy out of a garage in '75 where it had. Been sitting scince '54 . I couldn't get it running so I restomoded it in '07. LOL I know. It looks totally stock 'cept for the tires.

    It is amazing, I think, that even though there were many different and competing Car Manufacturers back in that era, the basic design lines are somewhat similar. My folks owned
    a 1936 Packard Six, and it looks so much like this Chevrolet Master.
    I would really like to see the video(s) showing this one's restoration.

    Lesson to be learned here, if or when you put an engine into storage, plug the inlet and exhaust substantially to keep all those "critters" out. Nice old car, our neighbors had one when I was a kid.

    There’s Babbitt in that engine, but Davin at Hagerty and the machine shop that they use modified the rods in a 1950 216 to accept shells. Involved elongating the oil holes in the shells too. But I’m jumping waaaay ahead. Hopefully the block is serviceable.
    Exactly what sort of critter volunteered to croak in the car to lend a macabre tone to the video?

    It's nice to see you are branching out. There seems to be a trend in going for the older cars. I agree that the engine should be rebuilt. Maybe you could let the oil sit for a while and try the push to turn it over again. I would like to see the disassembly, analysis, machine work and reassembly. Jay Leno might have a parts source you could use.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by branching out? My very first video on this channel was a 1929 Willys Overland 4-Door Sedan: th-cam.com/video/Y3Pnym2Q4Kk/w-d-xo.html

    • @toddchambers3820
      @toddchambers3820 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThisWeekWithCars My bust or bad... I have been watching your TH-cam videos for the past year. Thought I had seen them all. Guess I missed that one. I'm glad to see the enthusiasm when it comes to difficult car issues. You are very methodical in your approach, and I commend you on that. When you opened up that MG-TD (I think) motor with what looked like an aquarium of transmission fluid or Marvel's Mystery Oil, many of my automotive students would have thrown in the towel. You kept at it until you were satisfied. Keep up the good work, and Well Done!!!

  • @paulhall170
    @paulhall170 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow that's a real oldie. At least the engine rebuild should be pretty simple, but on the other hand, if you're not worried about serial numbers, you could probably find the same engine in going condition somewhere and just do a swap-out..

  • @gymnoboi
    @gymnoboi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    More videos... I do have a question.. is there a reason you dont use PBBlaster or Marvel Mystery oil in the Cylinders to try to free them ? please post your reply in your next video on this car.

    • @ThisWeekWithCars
      @ThisWeekWithCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use those products but those are the kind of thing you would use when you can let the engine sit for months.

    This is going to be interesting. Lot's of debris in those cylinders. Time to pull the head. Hopefully you will get it to break loose, but I'm sure you'll have some serious pitting on those cylinder walls.

  • @johnwren3976
    @johnwren3976 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The hole at the bottom of the grille is for a handcrank, no? The crank bolt will accept the long crank.
    I'd vacuum the cylinders of debris. Soak the ring/bores for a few days. Then see if it'll turn & possibly start. You're going to change rings and bore/hone cylinders anyway.🤷‍♂️

    Amazing the doors didn't fall off or at least drag on the running board ! Those old Chevs were all coach build ,all the body framing was wood! Given the overall condition that car must have kept inside for most all of it's life. Back in'61-62 a friend of mine found a '31 that was at 30 years old in no better shape, not like your 88 year old one !! First car my Dad got after WW II was a 35 Chevy 2 door, kept it until we move to Arizona in'50 when he upgraded to a 41 Chevy 2door.
    Have Fun !!!
