  • I walk around a local Chinese community in Nanjing China, a big Chinese city. I look at some Chinese street food stalls, restaurants, a fish and vegetable market, watch old people playing Mahjong and poker in a big and lively community square in the centre of lots of Chinese alleys.
I see lots of interesting Chinese buildings and small residential apartments of working class people in an old district of Nanjing. I come across a man sharpening some scissors on the street and talk to a few locals.

Nanjing is a famous political and cultural city with a history of more than 2,500 years. I have lived in Nanjing for 3 days before. At that time, I lived in this kind of community house. It was relatively dilapidated, but there were so many restaurants and life was very convenient. There are also many duck restaurants, and I really like the old city of Nanjing. bless you,Adam.Keep going!

New city centers are also the real part of China. It is not a movie studio. You use the word "real China" in a misleading way. This is a poorer part of Nanjing. This does not represent the whole of China. Most of China is modern and developed. This is why it is the second largest economy in the world.

I love your videos of normal people living normal lives. I spent a month in Nanjing in 2018 in what I call a 'working class' neighborhood. I am returning to China in November with a Peace group. It is a short tour, but I plan to spend at least several weeks or longer after the tour is over. BUT, I originally lived in AirBnb rooms in Nanjing (and other cities too). AirBnb is no longer active in China. So, I have a question for you. Do you have any ideas, suggestions, of how to find relatively affordable places....simple but with kitchen privileges. this is really important for me. I don't have the money for hotels. I have been to Nanjing, Beijing, Shanghai, Yunan, Xian, Chengdu etc. Are you teaching? I am going to look into the possibility of teaching botany in English in China. It is a dream.....

Thank you very much! did you enjoy staying in Nanjing?. That sounds great! I've stayed in apartments that you can rent temporarily before, as long as you register at the local police station to let them know where you are living. I can ask around and see if I can find out any more information. Where are you planning on visiting ? Yes I teach English. Teaching botany sounds like a great idea, maybe you could reach out to some universities and see whether any offer botany courses.
